Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow (2023)
Exceptional Episode
Thought this was a great episode, really love how Paul Wesley portrayed Kirk, especially the chess and hot dog scenes. Wonderful chemistry between Kirk and Noonien-Singh. Really emotional with a very interesting story to tell and another "agency" that could become more prevalent in the future. Quality episode from what is already promising to be another good season of Strange New Worlds and just Star Trek in general. Ethan Peck, again, with just 2 scenes showed us what a great stamp he is putting on his portrayal of such an iconic character. Oh and Carol Kane who I have loved ever since I watched Scrooges way back in the day still makes me smile every time she is on screen. "That's a fake so tell the Louvre to stop calling me"
First Kill (2022)
Thoroughly Enjoyable
I doubt I am the target audience for this show but I loved every minute of it. The two leading ladies nailed it and their scenes together were great. Good action sequences, the people who are criticising the CGI make me laugh. Do they really think everything has the same budget as a Marvel movie. 8 episodes wasn't enough and I am hoping for a second season. Happily binged it in 2 sittings.
Busanhaeng (2016)
As Good As It Gets
The absolute benchmark of zombie movies. Great characters, emotions, probably the most talented child actor I have ever seen in a movie. Just amazing.
Interceptor (2022)
Haters gonna hate.
Elsa Pataky was great in this film. Is the film going to win any Oscars? Hell no!!! Did I have a big smile on my face watching it? Hell yes!!! A certain cameo didn't hurt in that department but the film was exciting, the baddie was suitably nasty whilst being strangely likeable, sub plots added a nice touch. The current rating of 4.4 is because people hate seeing a female hero, they hate Netflix and they hate fun. Perfect friday night popcorn movie.
The Lincoln Lawyer: The Brass Verdict (2022)
How to do a season finale
Beautifully brought together all the strings from the season and left a few dangling for season 2 which hopefully gets made. I thought the casting decisions made this show for me and I look forward to seeing them again. Really good finale to a great first season.
Magnum P.I. (2018)
Favourite hour of the week.
Impossible to watch it without a huge smile on your face. Cast is perfect, Tom Selleck is a hell of an act to follow but Jay Hernandez doesn't try to copy him, plays it his own way and does a great job. The relationship with the now gorgeous Higgins is excellent and it really is my favourite hour of the week.
Serenity (2005)
so so so so so so so good
I watched this movie purely as a sci fi fan. I (unfortunately) never watched Firefly, (mistakenly) didn't go to the pictures to watch this on the big screen, then (eventually) rented the movie on DVD. How stupid did I feel? How did I not watch Firefly? Why didn't I see this sci-fi masterpiece on the big screen? Am I nuts? From the setting, to the script, the performances, the directing, the humour, the action and the Reavers this is a tremendous feat in sci fi movie making. Every critic in the world raved about this film and because of ignorant nutters like me this film didn't take half the box office gross that it truly deserved. It is with this shame that a sequel will probably not get made and that is a crime against cinema. Congratulations to Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion and all the cast and crew for this awesome movie spectacle and please please please make a sequel and I promise faithfully I will be there at the cinema for opening night. A wonderful film. Well Done.
Get Carter (2000)
If only all remakes were this good...
All time number one crime in the movies, nobody went to see Get Carter. For me one of Stallone's finest movies, and definitely one of his best performances. This movie was backed up by a stellar supporting cast, great music, great cinematography and, of course, Michael Caine. I think the real treat for me is when Stallone gets to deliver Caine's iconic "you're a big man" line to Caine himself. I own a video shop and I constantly recommend this title to my customers, and not one of them have ever complained when they've bought it back. I think it really sucks that this was one of Stallone's biggest flops when it truly deserved to place him right back on top of the Hollywood pile. Sorry Sly, but remember Van Gogh never sold a painting when he was alive, look at him now. This film will go down as a classic I'm sure, just give people time to appreciate it.
