We're heading west next week on vacation so I reckoned a Western'd make sense. This is a classic, set in Wyoming and featuring some picturesque cinematography.
Shane is a gunfighter looking for a peaceful new beginning. He thinks he finds it when he stumbles on the Starrett homestead but he quickly learns that this very nice family is being harassed by a cattle baron who is trying to drive the Starretts and other locals off their land. All this, of course, culminates in a gunfight and as Shane rides off, the iconic ending with the Starrett's young son Joey crying "Shane! Come back!"
Lots to love about this picture. The awesome cinematography. The classic cowboy motif. A young Jack Palance. That name, Shane. It's no wonder some consider it the greatest Western.
