Desperate Housewives: Guilty (2004)
One of the best episodes of the entire series
This episode documents Lynette's addiction coming to a head. The visions she has about Mary Alice and fantasy about ending her life are so real and are a necessary narrative for the pressure of SAHM. Susan and Bree confessing their troubles with motherhood to Lynette never fails to make me emotional. Later in the episode, the editing juxtaposition of Susan/Mike with Paul/Martha is excellent. Not to mention, Susan and Mike finally getting together and Martha getting what's coming to her are always welcome plot developments, haha.
Awesome episode! Bree and Gaby's plotlines are continued from climaxes in earlier episodes.
Reba: Happy Pills (2004)
Great look at a real situation
This episode did an excellent job at showing the conversations surrounding mental health and treatment. Even today, there is a stigma held toward therapy and medication and needing these things is portrayed as weakness. This stance is held by Barbra Jean. However, the fact that Brock even goes to therapy shows the growth of his character. Reba also admits that she has needed help in the past and there is nothing wrong with it. Great example of this show looking at real-life issues in the capacity of a weeknight sitcom. Because Reba and Brock are supportive of the concept of therapy and medication, it shows that the show is progressive and embraces mental health and self-care.
Weeds: Lude Awakening (2005)
Amazing cameo
This episode is enjoyable anyway, but I am giving 10 out of 10 for Allison Janney's appearance as the attorney. Simply excellent, that woman is hilarious.
Bones: The Strike in the Chord (2016)
Missed opportunity
While there are no references to the new intern's size, the fact that the writers chose to cast a completely incompetent intern as a fat girl is very disappointing.
