Uncanny (2023)
Great show
I enjoyed the podcasts and the tv show. I like the balanced approach.
The presenter interviews sceptics and believers to try and understand the uncanny things that have happened to people.
He speaks to knowledgable people on both sides of the debate all over the UK. The people he talks to seem calm and credible. The pace is good although I don't like the fact that the special affects are so dramatic.
My score would have been higher if Danny the presenter hadn't seemed to take such enthusiastic, delight in people's genuinely awful experiences.
Smile less Danny and be more serious about this serious stuff.
Great show though. Do more.
Nope (2022)
Couldn't hear a lot of the dialogue
I really wanted to like this but I couldn't tell what most of the people we're saying most of the time. I turned the volume up then down. I rewound a few times and still couldn't understand what they were saying.
It shouldn't be so hard to hear what's going on.
Making a film where you can't hear the actors is like making a cream cake without any cream. Ok. Bad analogy but you get my point. I was so irritated I only lasted 35 minutes.
Clearly many people like this film but I found it boring, incomprehensible and muffled.
I'm being generous by giving four as perhaps if I could have heard what was going on it might have been good? Who knows?
Hotel Portofino (2022)
Beautiful but boring
This is gorgeous to look at. The scenery, fashion and attractive people are a strong feature of this series.
That's not enough for me though. I need strong story lines and there weren't any.
Half way through episode three I gave up. It was too slow and I just didn't care.

It shouldn't be so hard to understand a film
I'm just repeating what other people have said:
Loud music
Sound problems with the dialogue - we had to put subtitles on
Incomprehensible plot
We gave up after an hour. Some people have said that it all becomes a lot clearer if you watch it again another once or twice but I don't want to. It shouldn't be so hard to understand a film.
Wind River (2017)
I couldn't hear much of the dialogue as the sound was so bad
This film was a strain to watch as I couldn't hear a lot of the dialogue. Jeremy Renner in particular mumbles his way through the film.
There was no light and shade, we didn't get to care about the dead girl (shown in the first few mi utes of the film) and the explanation of what happened was thrown at us seemingly carelessly.
Some of the scenes were too violent and frankly daft.
