Just watched episodes one and two of the Hanks / Spielberg latest WWII miniseries and sadly like the Pacific their second series I found the development of the characters way below that of Band of Brothers. The duo hit the jackpot with BOB and have gone down in my estimation in the later two series. As this is only the first two episodes, I'll reserve my judgement, but the digital air combat scenes come nowhere near to the battle scenes in either BOB or the Pacific. I know it digital movie making is not as realistic as actual on the ground or in this case in the air filming but it still looked a little too fake for my likingI hope the characters come a little more to life as the series progresses. Fingers crossed.

I can see why most without any knowledge of combat flying could find this film almost incomprehensible but for those with intimate knowledge of the psychological stresses of piloting planes in warfare the whole thing is very real.

Why do film makers use inappropriate props when it is so easy to get the appropriate ones? In the film there is a reference to a Winchester rifle in a cupboard in a shack when quite plainly the rifle is not a Winchester. This sort of thing grates, surely they don't think we are all morons and don't know one rifle from another and in this case that a policeman wouldn't either. Get it right and receive more acclaim.

Everyone involved in this must have been on a bender of mind altering substances from start to finish. This is an insult to the genre. To the financiers, producer, director and the actors I say go hide and never again darken the walls of the movie industry. Disgraceful.

So sad to see a classic science fiction tale butchered especially when the concept of setting the story at the time of the original writing by HG Wells was such a great idea. The editing of this movie was atrocious and the whole thing which did have some great scenes was just a mish mash of adjunct scenes papered together in what came out as nothing more than porridge and a bad tasting one at that. I got as far as the start of ep 2 and that was enough I hope someone has another go at trying to film the story in period this one is a great disappointment.

Just came home from watching Danger Close and this is one of the best and most authentic war movies I have ever seen. Danger Close had everything a war movie must have but most of all it was its authenticity almost nothing was exaggerated as having a family friend who died at Long Tan I have researched the battle extensively including the military politics that was associated with the battle and the reason the deeds of the soldiers involved were not presented to the public for decades. The script, the filming and the presented tension of the battle made this one right up there with Saving Private Ryan. Don't miss it it's a gem.

No integrated parachute battalions

There were no racially integrated airbourne battalions in WWII. There was one all negro battalion the 555th parachute infantry battalion which did not serve overseas, but then again there were no zombies in WWII either. Enjoyable for what it is and well filmed.
