Nobody (2021)
Holy Hades!
I thought the movie would be good, but I had no idea just how good it was. This is Better than John Wick!
Mostly practical effects and stunt work, and the actors did most of their own stunts. It was fun!
If you liked John Wick I think you will really like this one.
The VelociPastor (2018)
Bad, BAD movie! No Biscuit!
This is a really, REALLY bad movie. The acting is wooden, the script a mess, the effects laughable, and the unforeseen twists obvious.
You really have to watch it!
I wish there were more awful movies like this one.
Eye of the Beholder: The Art of Dungeons & Dragons (2019)
FABOO!
A really nice trip down memory lane. These are the artists that made my life better, many of whole I have had the honor and privilege to meet real life (even have a few as FarceBook friends I occasionally get into arguments.... discussions with).
I was telling my wife about the people and the ones I knew.
Years and Years (2019)
Good Series
It is a good series. Good acting, good writing, excellent production values...
But...
And there is always a but...
And it is usually me!
It has an agenda. Conservative ideas and populist politicians are evil and bad and progressive people are good and kind and noble. If you are someone who is conservative or a supporter of certain orange-colored populists politician you will definitely feel a bit uncomfortable.
That, in and of itself, isn't enough to merit the seven-star rating. no this one only gets a seven because it was ticking a lot of the euwww-factor boxed I tick off when I accidentally watch one of my Christian Brethren's Revelation movies (Like those crappy "Left Behind" abominations with Kirk Cameron or that "Gods not Dead" drivel with Keven Sorbo
All the basics like a plucky band of misfits in an impossible place standing against unstoppable evil only to, in the end, win. Then the heroin rewarded with eternal life in heaven (water, which is pretty damn cool IMOP!) where she can peruse eternal vengeance and chase the evil one forever into hell (Long, unending red hallway while wearing uncomfortable shoes) - sorry but that bit of Christian allegory beating me about the head and shoulders creeps me right out - thus the seven star rating.
I get the felling, same feeling I get from the above, that this is what some people would really love to happen! Never mind the pain and death others suffer because if it does happen it means THEY ARE RIGHT! And GOD knows thats better than just about anything in the world. Yea I am suffer, even die, but I WAS RIGHT!!!!!!
As for other bits:
I cried when Daniel Died.
Every time Mureal appeared I wanted to grab the nearest Joduun and tell them shes the Plasmavour! (I cannot be the only one who thought this).
Vivvian Rooks first few appearances were excellent, but Emma Thompson's talents were wasted in the last few episodes. She was a character.... and they had here MONOLOGUE their evil plan, spelling it out so even the dim amongst us can see just how vile she is.
It has some fun Cyberpunk elements, particularly just how nasty back street surgery can be. Beware discount upgrades!
I binged it! only took two days for me to watch, and thats because I had to sleep, cook, and work. I wanted to stop after episode five and take a bit of a break (Daniels death really gut-punched me) but I couldn't.
So its good. It has an agenda and a creepy (to me) level of Revelation allegory. Give it a go. Worst you can do is waste an hour or two (or six).
Hobo with a Shotgun (2011)
Dear LORD this was a bad movie...
But bad in the best way. I loved it! It really reminded me of the Classic Troma films.
Too much gore, too much gleeful sadism, too many beheading and hangings.
Really wish they had made a sequel.
Civilization: Is the West History? (2011)
I highly recommend for any of my fellow uber-geeks!
Got this from the Library. I didn't pay attention and thought I was getting a book, but this was pretty entertaining. It is six episodes and in each he covers what he calls Western Civilizations "Killer App's" - the six things he believes lead to the accent of western civilization.
I thought the episode on Medicine was a bit weak, but he did delve into medicines dark cousin - eugenics and the nightmares that crap created.
Thought-provoking. I would highly recommend it for any of my fellow uber-geeks.
A Life at Stake (1955)
Not bad
Not bad, but not great. A kind of middle of the road noir film. My biggest issue is personal, I just cannot see Angela Lansbury as a sex kitten - she will always be Jessica Fletcher or Miss Price. For a general time killer this one is fine. Hades its better than most movies put out today.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Meh!
The animated version was far, FAR better. Emma Watson and Kevin Kline were great; and Josh Gad's LeFou was fun (I didn't see what all the fuss was about - so his character was gay. Big deal.) It did explain a few things the Animated movie glossed over, like why the town didn't know of the castle and why the servants were also cursed (though IMOP the curse was far worse on the servants, out of proportion for their crimes). The costumes and sets are wonderful. So much for what it got right. Now: The Animation was terrible. Luke Evans as Gaston? Really. Gaston should be a huge, handsome, harry brute! We got a mediocre Hollywood pretty boy. More proof Hollywood cannot thing outside their little box. Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts? Guess they wanted her to have a larger roll, but she should have been the Enchantress! Have they never seen Nanny McPhee? Hattie Morahan is a good actress, no problem with her performance - but really, this was a HUGE miss.
Not horrible, but you will probably be much happier with the Disney animated version.
Frozen (2013)
Disney Fun
I really enjoyed it.
The story is an adaptation of 'The Snow Queen' by Hans Christian Andersen, and in Disney tradition is it a rather loose adaptation (I would say more inspired by some elements in the story rather than being based upon the story itself). I have to say that is by biggest complaint, so little of the original tale is in this story.
My second biggest complaint is the storm near the end of the movie - Its over-long. A dying girl would not last that long, though I guess with her heart freezing she might last longer in the cold. That said, Its a great movie. I like the fact that the act of love that saves her is her own sacrifice to save her sister.
The soundtrack is FABOO! I bought a last night!
Yonggary (1999)
Pretty Bad
Bad acting, Bad CGI, Bad Plot, Badly thought out Aliens. The only thing saving it from a 1 rating is that it has Rocket Rangers (not what they call them, but you know what I mean when I say it). They are, of course, poorly done and poorly thought out - but I have trouble giving a really crappy rating to any movie featuring a squad of jet-pack equipped soldiers.
Of course the Aliens make it impossible to give any rating higher. They can teleport and mind-control the monster, blast cities, and have been around for 200+ million years and yet they are defeated because without mind control Yonggary (the fire-breathing monster) is good and like humanity.
The climactic final CGI battle occurs when the Aliens send in a tentacle-using electric Turtle (the writers must be watching too much Hentai) that Yonggary blows up by shooting a fireball into the shell while the electric turtle has its head withdrawn.
Overall, just say no.
