New Tricks: Deep Swimming (2014)
But whose ashes were scattered????
So - the bomb blows up without a body so whose ashes did the daughter scatter??? I think that messes up the plot line. I imagine a body will leave mess when a bomb gets it and if there is no body with the bomb, there will be less mess. That is my on my comment about this episode but I have to fill it with more characters. I miss the original 4 main actor's chemistry with each other. The 3 new main actors are not as engaging. I get the two new older men confused since they really like alike. Good thing their accents are so different!! Anyway, overall it's a fun crime drama series and its interesting to have the British slang & situations.
The Gilded Age: You Don't Even Like Opera (2023)
Still Lovely but Ugh Oscar is a Jerk
Still a fantastic show and beautiful ti the eye. But Oscar is just a jerk - I like Gladys & will be disgusted if she is duped by the lying, nasty, gay Oscar. His mother is awful and they both deserve lots of misery and a major falling out of society. I just can't root for them. I am more and more of a fan on the Russell family - they are bright & fun, much more exciting than the tired tropes of Oscar and his mother.
Anyway, the scenery is so rich and eye catching, it helps make up for the dull and predictable parts. I do enjoy seeing the range of ages. Different layers of society have one thing in common - the need to fit into the group they desire.
Fear the Walking Dead: The Little Prince (2019)
Ha! Now Al is a welder and airplane mechanic!!!
Wow - now the wooden, one dimensional Al is a welder & airplane mechanic!!! This show is funnier than most comedies out there. I keep watching for the ridiculous situations. Can't find water but full welding gear just pops up when needed. Don't get me started on the useless Luciano. And Morgan's repetitive, dull lectures are snooze worthy. Oh yeah, and the lone nuclear scientist is back!!!! Only Morgan's generator can save them!!!!! I've done some things. I've been where you are. I need to make up for those things. Help you, help me, help the world See? I can write this show!!! Still needs the belly laughs so I guess I'll keep watching these laughable scenarios & sudden experts.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023)
Episode 4 is the end for me
Episode 4 is gross and repetitive. It has lost my interest. George is fundamentally unlikeable. While possibly accurate, I am not interested in watching torturing someone to "cure" mental illness. And I already watched the Charlotte part of this part of the timeline so it is boring to re-watch it. And, how did the Duke from season one meet his father if that father died before he was born? Or was the season one Duke already born but ignored? It just gotten beyond bad. Maybe I will go read the Bridgeton books instead of this tragedy of a story. Besides, this King George was the one us Americans revolted against so poop on him! And poop on this series.
The Resident (2018)
Great until seasons 5 and 6
LOVED this show for the first four seasons. It was fresh with great acting, terrific balance between comedy and tragedy, without getting overly soapy. Season Four started changing into a soapy melodrama. Season Five is getting unwatchable with Cade and Hawkins seeming so fake (and the mafia apparently just gave up???). The AJ/Parma situation is weird. Devi & Padma are annoying - Padma can just live in a hospital office??!!??? It all just too earnest yet ridiculous; hyper woke yet still has the callous "doctor god" stereotypes. It too bad since I loved the first 4 seasons because those seasons were about the story & characters. Now it's all about the MESSAGE.
Alaska Daily (2022)
Would be better if it was a story instead of ONE NOTE MESSAGE
Started watching cause I love Hilary Swank. The other actors are all great. But it's not actually a story about people but a ONE NOTE MESSAGE!!!! So I'm done with this. I now stop watching shows that are clearly only made to hit the audience over the head with a message designed to shame society. If I want to learn, I will watch the news not a series claiming to be a story. And I'm case the very limited storyline didn't beat the message about non-white women who are missing, then the ending frame shown at the end of each show will make even the most dense realize that the ONLY purpose of the series is to promote the cause.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Well done, movie but not at all a comedy
I found this under comedy movies so I was disappointed because I wanted a full out comedy, not a dark story with a few small comic moments. After the shock of finding out it is NOT a comedy, I did think it was a good movie with a great cast. The story was carefully crafted with some surprises. All the actors are strong, do a great job, and have solid chemistry together. Lots of cussing and killing so not for the faint of heart. And don't pick it if your looking for ac actual, full out, comedy. Some of the big name actors play out side of their usual roles. I did give it 9 stars because it is a well done movie with a great cast.
The Batman (2022)
Bloated "everyone mumbles in low monotone" voices crapshow
Bloated "everyone mumbles in low monotone" voices crapshow. Dull, slow, impossible to hear dialog with excessively violent scenes. Also shot with really low light & so many dark shadows it was also hard to see everything.
I get it. Now all the thousands of Batman remakes will be dark, anti-hero, slow stories full of long, drawn out, violent scenes & no actual plot or character development.
Really hated all the "peeping Tom" long scenes.
The Great Silence (2020)
Really bad with a pointless ending
So, the actors are good. But this short movie was just bad, with an oddly paced story and a "everyone dies" ending. The main character gets free but is infected so it really doesn't matter that she gets free or that her love finds her again. Maybe the makers ran out of money so they couldn't make the second half? It feels like a first episode of a series.
The Gilded Age (2022)
Okay but lacking.
The costumes and sets are gorgeous. But they dialog is so blunt & ALWAYS obsessed with standing in society or money. And Miss Ada... was she dropped on her head as a baby that a women of her age is such a naive infant in all ways. It lacks Downtown Abbeys full characters & richer stories.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Done with this train wreck
I am done with this train wreck. This excerpt from an interview with the show-runner: "From Judkins' comments regarding his desire to "really pain book fans in their deepest heart of hearts", it would also seem fans can also expect a lot more changes to come over future seasons." I have no interest in watching a book adaptation controlled by people who apparently hate the books so much that they will intentionally destroy it & twist it. My family will not waste our time on a series designed to make book lovers angry. Hope Jordan's widow got lots of money for rights to create a gate-filled, mockery of an amazing book series.
And Just Like That...: Little Black Dress (2021)
Awful; turned provocative, 3D, charismatic characters into 1D morons
This is unwatchable. Guess they will get rid of Steve after Miranda does the "humpty" with Che (so obvious that is coming) or maybe they'll become a "thruple"? Charlotte has become a shrieking, brittle, status obsessed dullard. And Carrie? No way it fits that she becomes the upright, "fluddy Duddy" so easily mocked by the young woke crowd.
Suits (2011)
Great actors, terrible plot
Mike Ross and Harvey Spector belong in jail. The terrific actors deserve better material. Can't believe this show lasted so many seasons.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Great fun!!
I thought the movie as great fun. It was well acted and visually gorgeous.
