The King (2019)
Good movie
It's historically inaccurate and we know it. I noticed that armours and clothes were from the wrong century and there were no spikes against the cavalry, a very famous English counterattack. (Check wiki for the rest of historical inaccuracies)
Despite that, though, this is a very good movie, with great cast, photography, location and soundtrack.
Definitely worth seeing if you're not a historian.
I'm not convinced by Pattinson's exaggerated performance, I guess it was requested of him? Otherwise it's a no, his french accent while speaking English sounds a bit fake.
Edgerton and Chalamet were great though. Depp has a small role but she delivers it perfectly.
Dampyr (2022)
Good product from a comic book
This movie comes from a 25 years old Italian comic book from Bonelli, a real piece of art of Italian comics.
It came out on a very unfortunate end of 2022, with too much competition and people still not going back to the cinemas yet.
Despite that Dampyr is a good product, with nice setting (Romania is just wonderful) and good actors and special effects.
I wish they would make more movies because the starting material is really interesting, and it would be nice to see some Italian comics around the world and not just Marvel or DC.
It is obvious that the budget for this movie was not the same as a blockbuster, but they reached a decent result.
Don't Look Up (2021)
A perfect depiction of today's over-the-top society.
It takes a little bit to come to grips with the tone of this movie. So this is not just a brilliant depiction of the power and the exxagerations of our society, this is also a test of your attention span.
The over the top behavior of politics (the President) and economy (Bash ceo) starts just as an annoying trait for the audience, nothing more than that. After all, media and common people alike share the same exxagerated lifestyle in our society (see drugs, medicines, forced laughs), it all seems perfectly "normal".
Soon enough though, the slight annoyance you feel transforms into a deeper and deeper concern when we realize that that behavior will eventually lead to an ineluctable end, and no one will put aside their personal interests to pursue the greater good.
At that point the tone of the movie still doesn't change when politics, or money or TV are involved, maybe because this society can't change given where it seems to be heading? It changes in a small group of people that knew the truth, tried, but eventually realized what is really important in life, and there was no need for exxagerations anymore.
Aquaman (2018)
Not perfect but the best DC movie so far
I'm amazed by the bitterness of the reviewers. This is not the Aquaman of the comic books? Well, it's a movie guys, repeat after me: "It is not your comic book". As a Marvel fan I cannot count how many character they've butchered through the years. I was also uncertain by the choice of Jason Momoa, honestly after Ben Affleck as Batman I was expecting the worst. However I must admit that he is very good and convincing in the part, except for the contact lenses, those are horrible, but that's a minor thing and definitely not his fault. In general this movie is not perfect but the story makes sense, it has a good rhythm and the underwater world is astonishingly depicted. I don't understand the need of CGI to make actors younger, when they could have just chosen younger actors for that part. Despite this fact the action scenes are amazing, a crescendo of comics-like colours and composition with the apex during the end battle. The best DC movie so far, for sure, and one of the best superheroes movies as well.
Dracula (2020)
One of the best series ever created
If you get over the fact that this was NOT intended to be a precise adaptation of the book you'll enjoy one of the best TV shows ever created. Horror, humor, Gothic and technology blended into 3 perfect episodes. The people that rated 1 the show are just silly British people that need an excuse to complain about BBC.
