The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
I hated hill house but love this!
So I'm one of the random few who hated hill house. It was not scary at all and way to melodramatic. However, I loved The haunting of Bly Manor. The way it was written and portrayed made the characters so easy to love and get invested in. There were times when the suspense was super high and it had plenty of jump scares. There were a few scenes where my mouth was a gasp with shock and horror. Also the kids do a great job at being creepy. This was also one of my favorite love stories I've seen in a long time. I cried like a baby through the whole last episode. What all the negative reviews are saying about Bly, I felt about Hill house. I loved this story so much that I am sure to watch it again and again. Perfectly Splendid job Netflix!
Absentia (2017)
This show keeps getting better
This is one of my favorite shows on amazon! With each season it keeps getting better and better. In my opinion season 3 is the best! All of the "plot holes" people mentioned in their reviews are answered in season 3! Stick this show out and watch all of the seasons!
Show Dogs (2018)
DVD version was decent
I'm not a huge fan of these type of movies because the cg action scenes are so terrible and fake looking. But this movie was heart warming and funny at times! I can't stand how people look way too into things and in term probably cut out a lot of the funny parts for the dvd release due to parents complaining. Still a decent kids movie though.

Like watching an LED candle expecting it to burn
Wow, this movie was absolutely terrible! The Bye Bye man movie was better than this and that movie sucked! You can sleep through the first hour of the movie and not miss anything. I've seen many slow burn movies in my time but this was like watching an LED candle hoping that the wax will melt but it won't because there is no heat and it's fake! Just like this movie. Don't rent it, don't buy it, don't stream it! Watch a nature documentary or golf! They are a lot more interesting than this movie that dares to call itself a horror film or a psychological thriller.
The Shack (2017)
This movie helped heal my heart
A perfect 10/10. I was thinking how am I going to sell this movie so everyone I know watches it? I don't need to sell it, is the conclusion I came to. I'm going to share a text I sent to some amazing friends who I watched this with!
"I love papa! I love talking with Him! I love how he uses things we experience to inspire us! I love how he changes our hearts first and then the grace and power flow. I love how he gets excited when we are excited! And I love how happy he is right now. That the little victories are big victories in the kingdom of God. I just want to share this with everyone lol!"
So I will. I love the best friend I have in Jesus. That I can talk to him about anything and he cares. I love what he did for me. I love the Holy Spirit. I love the warmth he brings, the comfort, kindness and power that comes and flows through me. And I love how they are all God.
My advice to others is set aside what you think you know for an open mind and a new experience. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth, let her do the thinking and you do the watching and feeling.
Just so you know my biases have been set aside for this movie review. I don't like a lick of country music! And Tim McGraw is in this movie! The king of country! The message is so powerful I ignored all my biases and just experienced an amazing movie!
Abattoir (2016)
Darren Lynn Bousman's best work yet!
This movie gets a perfect score for me! I don't understand why people didn't like this movie! Saying it's boring or predictable. It is not boring at all. The only thing I can think of why they would think it's boring is because there are not a lot of jump scares. However, it has a sense of dread throughout the whole film and is visually scary. And the last 20 minutes of the film were terrifying! It's hard not to get sucked in to the curiosity of the main character as she goes deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole. I have always loved DLB because he is so imaginative and makes movies that are visually stunning and always entertaining. When this gets a wide spread release I will see it again and purchase it on blu-ray. Below are some things to think about when you watch this movie. The questions the movie proposes is what lengths would you go for your family? What would you sacrifice to get what you want? And how long can you stare at the darkness before it swallows you whole?
Blair Witch (2016)
Almost perfect! Finally a real horror film!
I'm not sure why so many people gave this negative reviews... It would have been perfect except for some of the characters were really annoying. But this is genuine horror at its best! It had tons of jump scares, body horror, atmospheric horror, high tension, and was visually terrifying! Yes it was predictable at times but it's one of those movies where you know what's coming but you hope it won't happen. The jump scares in this movie are enough to give you a heart attack. And we finally get to see the witch! Who was so scary! Please see this and support this film! Adam Wingard is an amazing director! He has really evolved with each film he does. So don't listen to the nay Sayers and go see this!
Cell (2016)
Sharknado meets Stephen King!
*Some spoilers.
Despite my title, I actually enjoyed this movie. I am so glad I didn't read the book because it seems like that ruined this movie for people. Btw if you look at the trivia and writing credits it tells you Stephen King (um the man who wrote the book) wrote the screenplay and it sounds like they got the guy who did The Last House on the Left to help the finished project. He said he changed the ending because people didn't like the ending in the book. I loved the main actors in this movie! I actually cared if John Cusack would find his family!
Where this movie falls way short is the special effects department. Hence why I titled this review "Sharknado meets Stephen King." It's like a SyFy movie special you see on a Sunday evening... Terrible. Like the effects team went back to the CGI we had in 2004.
Some people claim that this movie is boring or it didn't make sense. About every 5 minutes in this movie is a scary intense action scene with Samuel L. Jackson kicking butt like he always does! The fiction in this movie is self-contained. Everything you need to know about what's going on is given to you in this film. The ending is confusing at first but then it makes sense once you see the last scene. Trying to make a sci-fi movie make sense in our world is dumb and pretty unimaginative.
I also think this movie had a deeper meaning to everything in it. "Group think" which is what these cell induced bird brains are doing is common in the human species. If the bird brains were chasing Kardashians instead of people to eat it would make more sense to the "I don't get it" people. We see that happening all the time in today's society when Kim posts a nip slip. The headmaster eludes to this when he says, "perhaps this is the next phase of human evolution."
I Am Not a Serial Killer (2016)
Best twist of 2016 An instant cult classic!
Just watched this movie and I'm in love! It was so amazing and it had a twist that you will not see coming! This goes in one of my top films! It's a horror/thriller more on the thriller side with a horror twist!
You can only rent this right now on iTunes but I will buy it as soon as it comes out! The acting was phenomenal! I am so surprised that an IFC Midnight film could be this good! I hope they adapt more of the books!
Please watch this and support this movie! It deserves higher ratings than what some of these people are claiming. We need more films like this!
I would say the main character is similar to a teenage version of Dexter. The film has some jump scares and some really good tension in it. I really hope you enjoy this as much as I did and will do as I watch it over and over again!
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
One of the best horror films in years! (Slight spoilers but doesn't give movie away at all)
This time believe all the hype! This is genuinely an amazing and scary movie! It's the first time I ever cried tears of joy in a horror film along with being so scared and on the edge of my seat in the last 15-20 minutes. James Wan is an amazing director! The drama, tension, atmosphere, character development, even down to the music is utter perfection! Chad Hayes along with the other writers wrote a script so perfect and was beautiful executed by amazing actors! Seriously if horror movies could win an academy award it would win in all categories. I am going to see this again and again and buy it when it comes on bluray! It is hard to make a movie as good as the first but they did and it's a lot scarier! *Slight spoiler.* My friend who saw it with me was dissatisfied with all the love and feel good aspects of the movie. And I thought it's what made the movie and made me root for the characters even more!
Ich seh, Ich seh (2014)
The most predictable film I've seen in a long time. *warning spoilers*
*warning major spoilers! Only read if you don't want to see this movie or already have seen it* Well I feel like I've wasted an hour and a half to watch a movie that I knew what was going to happen within the first 10 minutes of it. This plot has been done to death and by much better directors and screen writers. Child suffers from complicated grief, imagines his brother never died. Mother gets surgery done after her husband leaves her because he couldn't handle his son's death (speculation, we never see him. All the pictures are gone and the only time he is mentioned is in a phone call saying after they separated). She comes back after the surgery and is not having her son's psychosis anymore. She tries to get him to stop believing the fantasy that Lukaz is still alive. She's mean and cold to Elias. So he thinks it's a case of body snatchers! There's a lot of evidence showing she's different I.e. Different eye color, no mole, forgets Lukaz' favorite song but she had good explanations for all of them. So they tie her up and torture her. Then the evil twin Lukaz keeps trying to convince Elias to not believe her. Finally after some gross body horror Lukaz(the dead brother) convinces Elias to kill her by setting the downstairs a blaze. I'm pretty sure he died with his mom because the final scene is both boys reunited with their ideal mom. I can't believe a lot of reviews on here said they were on the "edge of their seats." I kept falling asleep, hoping for a surprise ending and was totally let down. I would have given it 1 star but the kids were adorable when they weren't being little evil psychotic brats. Oh BTW if your son has cockroaches as pets he's probably disturbed. There you go. Now you don't have to watch this piece of garbage.
Shut In (2015)
Typical bait and switch movie. *Warning Spoilers*
*Warning Spoilers in this review* I was thoroughly disappointed with this movie. The reason I'm calling it a bait and switch is because the trailer was so promising but the movie was terrible. This is not a horror movie. It is a drama/thriller and the only serial killer died in the beginning of the movie. I was really hoping for some good kills in this movie especially because there is a serial killer lair in the basement! Anne is pathetic. The trailer makes her look like a badass, but sadly she is not. However, the actress who played Anne did a great job of playing a timid woman who suffers from agoraphobia. This is basically a Hallmark movie that should have been titled "From my father's ashes. - the story of a woman who overcame PTSD & agoraphobia by killing some bad guys." I would have given this movie a 1 star but I really liked the woman who played Anne. So if you're into really slow burning movies with a feel good "you go girl!" ending, then this is your movie! But if you want to watch a real horror movie, skip this one.
The Magicians (2015)
Amazing! *mild spoiler at the end*
This is seriously my new favorite show! I've read a lot of the other reviews and they range from good to bad. What I am the most impressed with in this show is the character development and likability. It is a beautiful marriage of great writing and acting. I haven't liked a show this much on SyFy. Most of the SyFy shows start out entertaining but fizzle out. What I love is every episode ends with a cliffhanger, so I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for next weeks episode. It's campy, dark, emotional, and fun! It really reminds me of other shows like Supernatural and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. So I did some research on the writing team and it turns out that some of them used to write for Supernatural and Charmed. Two amazing shows! This show is so good that it already got approved for a second season!
*Spoiler Alert!* Favorite moment so far is Quentin singing Taylor Swift. Although he is not the best singer, this episode made me fall in love with the characters.
