Stranger Things (2016)
A Critical Viewpoint
Teenage fantasy game blockbuster made for US citizens. The cultural references will connect with that. But actually I am a bit disappointed because it takes a safe route for an endless series. Perhaps this will end with ages of the casts like Marvel series.
There was a possibility to make it a timeless classic by focusing on the fact that how inside world, galaxy which is in mind is as much real as the outside world. It is so real that it is no wonder that it can be real. That comes from belief and spirituality. How one's own fear, guilt creates a real monster. How truth can become weapon.
But it comes from believe, realization and knowing the truth and feeling an urge of sense duty to communicate that to the world even sacrificing the commercial prospect.
It piggybacks on over dramatization, teen romance and known superhero super villain model. It can start anywhere and end anywhere. Long web serieses must understand the fact that user is consuming a lot of contents and getting mature. We expect better than predictable but technically well made and well acted series.
I was expecting a masterpiece but this fails in that standard. In the end of season 4, I am not really looking for 5th installment but will definite watch it in 2025.
At times, it almost feels like a collage of long versions of tik tok or insta videos. Plot loopholes are endless and I am ready to.give creative liberty to story. But at least we can make it better.
HaMossad: Sipur Kisuy (2017)
An Inevitable Consequence Of History Unfolds
Duki Dror is known to portray the crisis of Middle east politics and humanitarian angles related to it. He is a tough customer who is definitely not bullish about Nationalism and state atrocity. But at the same time, he is not a staunch. He understands the dilemma, the dialectics of the politics. This gives the series an unique angle and enjoyable watch.
Any secret service agency especially the one of the caliber of Mossad would definitely not like to advertise their modus operandi to the enemy! Hence, this one with so specific details directly coming from horse's mouth is a bit of strange. It gives one feeling that Mossad is moving to the next level - public image building, explain and face the uncomfortable questions. Not hiding them under the carpet. This was made on 2017. The events and associates in the series are dated long back settled issues with little or no contemporary relevance. They actually did not reveal any secret but justified and explain the way of working which still has contemporary relevance.
End of the day, i got a feeling that it was inevitable. No single entity can be completely blamed for abuse of humanity. Perhaps we need greater informed participation of people across the countries to make this world better.
And that's where this piece of work is successful. It informs you. Now you decide how to interpret these information and act, if you wish!
Arjun Reddy (2017)
A Very Well Made And Acted Upon Bad Film!
Not much to write for the storyline. By this time all know it. It revolves around a brilliant addict who has no control over his emotions. The story revolves around his love interest and some subsequent traditional but unconvincing development in relationship.
The lead role is played with a passion. Almost analogous to Joker by Heath Ledger. You will be convinced that he lives that life. This lifts the film from an otherwise average to super-hit standard.
I call it bad because
a. It portrays a very wrong picture of Indian girls. Like they loved to be conquered by a bull. This is not the case in reality.
b. Very conventional definition of the hero. Yes hero and not protagonist. A man born with a golden spoon automatically comes first in every sphere of life and surrounded by chamchas (followers).
c. It justifies drug, alcohol, unjustified anger and even rape attempt just for self satisfaction. At the same time covers and justifies it well with glimpses and suggestions of intellectual reasoning.
I am worried that this is the reason this film is getting such a high. Most of them are surely from young males.
