Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
Should be titled: Planet of the Night Night (Time for Bed)
As a big fan of the Planet of the Apes franchise, from the beginning starting in 1968-I love how they have evolved.. I get the story telling narrative-but honey grab your blanket and pillow for this one. You'll need a cappuccino in order to stay awake. The film doesn't have much action-it starts off pretty good even though you can guess what's next. I was bored out of my mind. I watched simply to see what happens next. I couldn't believe the film took on a primitive yet evolving story line-I couldn't tell if we we in BC of AC... I did appreciate the costumes and the make up-I give 10 stars for the special effects and (0) stars for the film.. I'm almost in disbelief of the high scores most gave. Sorry if it's just me-but that's my review, and I'm sticking with it ;)
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Too much ALL at Once!
While I'm a big fan of actresses Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis I was excited to see them both in the same film.. I clapped when I saw Jamie's first screen-- what a treat!! I'm late with my review and I'm pleased that the results are in and there is an Oscar Buzz, but the movie was wayyyy too busy for my brain to digest.. I reviewed the great reviews so I was even more anxious to check this film-unfortunately to me-- It appears many are simply deers herding of a cliff.. I've come to believe many are not comfortable being the negative voice.. I'm comfortable in my skin and I must say- the film is insanely busy- the concept is allllll over the place-- but so are we, so I'm certain most can relate to our own noise.
Riches (2022)
Black Dynasty
Based on my title, you should know- in NO millennial.. As a 56 year old Black woman-Ifind the show extremely tasteful, classy, intriguing and FASHIONABLE! Finally a show that doesn't have my people looking or sounding like 15 year-uneducated nuts!! I loved tintellect as well as the fashion! Hoping Amazon Prime is taping Season 2 as I type! And did I mention the excellent actoring!! Bravo cast-acting superb!!!! Finally a show that not only keeps me interested, but I'm gasping for more- the idea of power involving people of color is freakin awesome! We crave to see ourselves at the board table- which most networks are afraid to air-- but it's true people of color have controlled empires, but those who can don't want to display that! Job well done to the directors and the writers.
Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal (2019)
Love will ALWAYS prevail!
I love this fairy tail love story! Anyone who didn't love it, really needs a hug!! So tired of mates against each other- it was sooooo refreshing to see the support given to each other- Real true love! Sooooo refreshing to experience a true " Fairytale." Most people have to experience love and or hardships to really understand what it takes to make a union work- and most don't know--outsiders are usually against you! I love that their bond was able to not only recognize the darkness trying to invade their light, but Harry willing to make the ultimate sacrifice- this was a narrative we'll NEVER EXPERIENCE.
The Apollo (2019)
FIRE- but heavy Hitters Missing!
While this documentary not only entertaining, it gives deep history of the theater. It captivates an error most of us remember and truly miss. The Apollo is an Epic Center for Black Excellence! Getting a glimpse of how it all began and continues to uplift black culure was tear dropping for my husband and I. The only thing missing from a (10) rating, was the omission of some of the Apollo's most treasured entertainers.. KiKi Shepard, Rick Aviles, Sandman Simms and Steve Harvey!! You can't do an Apollo Doc and miss these pilars of 'Showtime At The Apollo'. The producers missed the ball with not acknoleging these folks!!
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Missing my Jurassic Park!
While we know good things must come to an end, this flick was more like too many cheifs and not enough dinasaurs. I was super excited to see this flick the first week, but I could've waited to stream on my 'Fire Stick'. There wasn't much excitment, the monsterous dinasaurs were sweet as pie! I'm not certain how this flick got such high ratings from most in my age group....
Great Performances: Nas Live From the Kennedy Center: Classical Hip-Hop (2018)
A Master piece Collaboration
I loved this concert so very much! The intervals of his bio gave the audience a much needed glimpse of how it all started for him. Nas was the perfect collaboration wit the National Symphony Orchestra as I am certain the orchestra was not familiar with Nas or the importance of our genra music "hip hop". I'm certain they were totally surprised to hear of this collaboration. Sadly, they weren't aware of the magnificent music and style of hip hop brings to the Arts. Well they know now!! Nas is Hip Hop and they should be honored to have performed with him.. Would love to see this at 'Carnegie Hall' in NYC.
Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls (2022)
Big Gurrrrrl ROCK!!
I not only have respect for Lizzo, but she is entertaining, professional, trailblazing and fun to watch. This show was sooooo good-I NEVER WANTED IT TO END. I hope they'll be a series 2 and I want to follow the girls careers through there journey with and without Lizzo! A fresh new concept and empowering BIG GRRRRRLS was the icing on the cake!!!
Dog (2022)
Not a Big Deal
I was surprised to see soooo many great reviews on this flick. Sorry if it's just me, but this movie was sooooo predictable and boring.. I love a good feel good flick- but this film just gave me a headache. The dog didn't not look forochus at all. I couldn't tell if it was a drama or comedy. IT WAS OVER OF THE WORST FILMS I'VE WATCHED IN A MINUTE.
Fatherhood (2021)
Kevin DID THAT!!!!!
A tear jerker that made me laugh, cry and laugh and cry again!!! My husband loved, the movie-but he was sooooooooo in tuned to his feminine side :) He just couldn't stop crying!! This movie is not a new issue, but it's an issue society refuses to talk about.... Black men have done wonderful as taking the role of Mommy for decades but they DO NOT get the credit!!! Kevin and. Melody Hurt deserve Oscars..... This movie is A MUST WATCH!!!
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)
Magical, Mystical & Spectacular
I watched this movie with my husband and we both were touched, enlightened, entertained, dared to dream and felt every emotion we felt watching Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer! For a few hours, we were able to forget politics, covid-19 and everything disheartening! This musical was jazzy, cultural, diverse and everything a holiday movie should be!!!!
Becoming Barack (2009)
He Did It!
As a true doc head, this was on of the best stories of a man's life as he not only comes into his self, but grows and takes a city with him. President Barack Obama is the most geniune caring person. This story of how it all began, not only gives us a glimpse of who he was, but we get to see his vision for America-at a young age. I learned alot about my president. This documentary was AMAZING!!! A MUST SEE!
Becoming (2020)
Becoming Even More SPECTACULAR!
Becoming gives a small glimpse of how BIG someone can dream to become! it's an up close, candid and person view of Michelle Obama. I only wish it was a miniseries. It left me wanting more-I wanted to see more, hear more-I didn't want the fairy tale story to end! With so much death, despair and hardships, Becoming is a ray of 'sunshine'.
Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker (2020)
A disgrace: Sad tale of a wonderful woman!
I've desperately tried to understand what the producer and or the director was trying to convey-the music was a disgrace and the 'boxing match' inserts made no sense. This movie was the film i've been waiting for and I'm extremely saddened that they made this film a joke! The actors were great in terms of the casting, but the comedic elements-was on some dumb stuff. 'Hated it!'
IMDb Trailer with Commentary: 'A Fall from Grace' Trailer With Tyler Perry's Commentary (2020)
An Awesome Tyler Flick
While I must admit, Tyler Perry flicks are usually extremely stereotypical predictable and kinda corny---SOME not most. But, I love who Mr. Perry is for Black Cinema...... This movie I will admit, is ONE OF HIS BEST!!!! I've heard people talk about the bad acting, I was once an actress-and I'm extremely critical when it comes to the art of acting.... The acting was superior.... Bravo-everyone did an incredible job..... Their expressions, body movements and acting was superb!!
I would've given the film a 10, but what happened when her son went to the house-he should've hit the stand, because we were left with no reason for his being there and leaving..... Anyway--- Still a great unpredictable film....
Dolemite Is My Name (2019)
Dolemite is Dynomite!!!!!
I just watched this film cause I was not feeling the cheeriest and I needed a laugh---What better way than to watch a Eddie Murphy joint! Well he did not fail me..... I laughed through the whole flick-It was not just funny, but it was uplifting at the same time. I remember these films from the real Dolemite and I did not like them at all. But I was young and I didn't really get the irony of it. But I wish I would've understood that the dummmmbness of the films were really the best part of humor cinema. Thanks Eddy cause you and the rest of the cast did ya thing.... Funny but the way life is now, no one would give you the time if you're not a big star-and by chance all hands on deck was just getting their feet into the industry, so Dolemite caught everyone at the right time..... Funny and touching! I loved it!!
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
Magnificent!!!!
This is not only a powerful movie, the narrative speaks to many of today's prejudices and stories of good and evil in people! My whole family loved it-we clapped like we did in the old days of a good Disney flick!!!
Disney still GOT IT!
When They See Us (2019)
The Exonerated 5 (TRIUMPHED)
This movie should be shown in schools all across the World!! The injustices in the real life story are unimaginable. The movie should be edited to rid the sexual scenes and shown to not only educate students, but to educate you minds-whom may decide to prepare for jobs in law enforcement, law and any profession dealing with "Human Rights" and "Racism". Me and my fiance watched all four episodes and we both were overwhelmed with emotions. I'm soooo sorry that during their turmoil, my family and I went on with our lives-not knowing what happened and what hell they were living. I pray for nothing but a fulfilled new live of happiness for each one of them, ,and pure hell for those who imprisoned them, and those who tortured them while incarcerated. The sad part is their lives are forever changed and not for the better!! When you look at it, we are ALL guilty of NOT helping them. We should be ashamed....
The Lion King (2019)
A Blast to the "Special Times" Past!
On a scale of 1-10, I give this animated film a 10. The film captures not only the emotions as it did 25 years ago, but the animated technology is phenomenal. Watching this film with my mom and my daughter, took me back to when we all climbed in one bed and watched with our popcorn and soda "EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY". When ever we visited my mom, my daughter ran straight to this movie-simply to fall right asleep. While my daughter is now 25, watching this animated film, reminded me all the wonderful emotions as a new 1st. time Mom. Some one wrote, there wasn't enough emotions from the characters-too much emotions would've made this full of realism film, a bit corny and cartoonist.
Juanita (2019)
Women's History Month Celebration Flick
Perfect film for Women's History Month. Just told my Mom and friends to watch. This movie brings to life our feeling or a thoughts to focus on Us. Us women would love to be at a place in our lives where we could just pick up and go! Just pick up and leave to focus on you. As women we are natural nurturers and we often forget about our own mental and physical health. This movie reminds to take time for self and be unapologetic about it.
Greta (2018)
Seen that, done that!
I'm still surprised that such a compelling coming attraction, was so predictable. This movie is not only slow, but the excitement never comes. So I can't even call it slow. It just good ol fashion boring. I hate that I was so excited to check it, simply to be disappointed. Well if you're okay with giving away your loot-check it out, but if you value your money-wait for it on a movie channel of your choice!
Green Book (2018)
True Stories For Your Soul
One of the reasons why I love this movie is simply because we are soooo much more. We as "Black" people have rich, intriguing, moving, and funny stories-I hate that we are sitting around waiting for the Next Great Director make movies in which the narratives do more than entertain. I hope Tyler Perry would be one of those innovative directors, but now I don't care who tells it-as long as it gets told. Thank you to the writer and director for such a moving movie that touches more than my funny bone.
Nobody's Fool (2018)
Really Tyler???
As a Tyler Perry fan, I am not only surprised, but I'm in shock! This producer, writer and plain ol good actor really needs to take a good look at his production team. I'm not sure if they're a bunch a youngins that do not have his and their best interest in heart, but this movie gave me a splitting headache. The acting was horrific and the jokes were so played--totally buffoonery. I want my money back! The commercial looked corney, but I still gave it a try-after all it was a Tyler Perry Joint!
Sadly, I don't think he worked at this film at all-the profanity did not help either-who acts/talks like that allllllll day! Whoopi was good as she is a pro-but I'm sorry she's a part of this hot mess-and as for Chris Rock-Really-still acting like "Pooky" ;(
Those who said it was good, really have no clue of entertaining cinema! And another thing-I'm really tired of "black-movies" having the same ol jokes/narrative/themes and actors! Can we please cast new faces Uuuuggggh ;(
CBS News Sunday Morning (1979)
Not Enough Afro-American Stories
I've always jumped up or set my clock to watch CBS New Sunday Morning Show, but the more I watched the more I realized there are NOT enough Afro-American stories aired on the show. Today was kinda like the straw that broke the camel's back. My mother and I would watch the show together from separate homes and discuss the topics during commercials. Today-we phoned each other after watching the whole show simply to note to our amazement, NOT ONE discussion of the Late Great Mrs. Maya Angelo. Really-I'm done. That's it, I'll contact CBS directly on Monday, but for the CBS review-I had to advise my people or those who care. The producers must be crazy to think-Maya would NOT be missed today. :(
