Unbelievable (2019)
Don't watch if you've experienced it
The ending was rather lackluster so I'm not sure I'd have been that impressed anyway, but what thoroughly ruined it for me were the rape survivor's numerous flashbacks being shown on screen, and the rapist at one point being shown completely naked (full frontal) for an extended period. I think I get their intent with both things, but in my opinion, they failed. Definitely not good.
Love (2015)
Ugh
Really, really terrible. Long and boring, the main characters (most notably Murphy) were all terrible people, and there's horribly disgusting transphobia in it.
Life Partners (2014)
Biphobic
If it weren't for the biphobia in the film (the one bi/sexually fluid character is portrayed as unstable and "not gay enough" to be with), I probably would've given it a six or seven. This is far too common in media, and the stereotype is damaging.
As it was the film did portray well some of the issues of growing up and how it affects one's friendships.
I did relate to some of the issues the women went through.
It doesn't really reach very deeply though, and the ending is rather lackluster.
There was some good humor in the film, but the writing really needed polishing.
It was nice to see a mainstream film portray a non-straight main character.
Gabourey Sidibe was sorely underused as a minor supporting character.
The Boxtrolls (2014)
Could've been much better
Overall it was OK. It had some great elements that sometimes came together well, but often didn't. The ending was lackluster. It was very funny, occasionally.
What ruined it for me was the transphobic content. Otherwise I probably would've given it a 6. That was completely unnecessary and offensive.
The best part of the whole thing was in the credits at the end, so if you do see it, make sure to wait for that.
I really expected more from the same people who made ParaNorman, which was great and very inclusive.
I'm really surprised this won the Oscar over The LEGO Movie--that was way better.
Doctor Who: Partners in Crime (2008)
My least favorite episode so far
I was surprised that this episode was so poor. I liked Donna's appearance in the Christmas episode, but in this episode, she seemed almost completely different and didn't really appeal to me at all. I did think the baby aliens were cute, and I liked Donna's grandfather. I don't think I'm going to especially enjoy having Catherine Tate as a recurring character on the show.
I was planning on giving the episode a 3/10, until Rose showed up. She is my favorite companion of this series so far (well, she and Captain Jack, but fortunately he has his own show), and I was disappointed to see her go. I'm glad she's back, in whatever form.
