Linda Hunt is the main reason I tune in
16 February 2010
As opposed to other reviewers who are sadly so limited they can only conceive of Linda Hunt as an object of derision, I tune in specifically to see her. The show is adequate. I've always liked LL Cool J and it's nice to see Chris O'Donnell again. (The nerds suck, especially when you consider Abby from the original show.) But it's the presence of Linda Hunt that elevates this show. She's a rich, interesting actor and her character here has a great backstory.

Sure this team could be managed by yet another grizzled actor playing a tough as nails former Navy Seal type, whose life has been touched by tragedy because his wife died of breast cancer or his little girl choked on a marble. I'd rather have Linda Hunt because she is a true original. I've seen enough shallow cookie cutter actors with impossibly white teeth and ripped abs. Now I want to watch stories about people who are unique and unusual and earthy and human.

Gospel of Deceit (2006 TV Movie)

If you want to see Corey Sevier shirtless, this is the TV movie for you
31 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I am watching this movie right now on WTN because that was the channel that the TV was turned to when I turned it on. It is a not very credible and fairly boring story about a minister's wife (Alexandra Paul) falling in lust with a young stud/drifter (with washboard abs) played by Corey Sevier. There may or may not be a plot. Corey whips his shirt off a lot and Alexandra swoons. I'm getting the feeling he's supposed to be up to no good, and that's why he's messing with skinny Alexandra Paul. It's not really important because as I said he takes his shirt off a lot and I just caught a glimpse of butt cleavage. There's a lot of sax on the soundtrack, which is just painful.

Existential post-apocalyptic angst-fest with Moulin Rouge musical numbers
18 November 2006
Bambi is sad. Dumbo is sad. This movie is messed up. It's not that it's bad, it's that it's an animated movie about singing penguins directed by the same guy who directed Mad Max, being marketed as if it's another installment of Toy Story. Narratively the film bites off a great deal more than it can chew. Is it a story about how a person who is different can have a valued role in a community? Environmental cautionary tale? Existential post-apocalyptic angst-fest with Moulin Rouge musical numbers? At times quite affecting, with some terrific voice performances and a few hilarious gags, but in the end not at all appropriate (and way too long) for children.

Dungeons and Dragons campaign movie - thief, sidekick, girl, bad guys.
22 January 2006
This movie sucks and is pretty boring. It's not so bad it's good; it's really bad. It's like a bunch of stoned nerds played D&D in high school and were so wasted they thought everything they said was brilliant, so they tape recorded their game and sent the tape to someone to transcribe as a script, and everyone at the studio was also drunk that day, so the picture was green-lighted.

Justin Whalin is cute, and that girl who was on ST:Voyager is cute (but she has a rotten costume). If it's on TV (like it is right now), I usually watch it if I'm playing a game on the computer or doing something else interesting and just have the TV on to glance up at occasionally. Mute it when Thora Birch talks, though. Very important.
