Ringer (2011)
Excellent TV comeback for Sarah Michelle Gellar!
There were a lot of expectations for the pilot of Ringer as this was Sarah Michelle Gellar's TV comeback after a few years absence on the CW Network. I followed the commercial promos and interviews on what viewers could expect from Ringer and was hooked on the mystery surrounding twins Bridget Kelly and Siobhan Martin. While the initial opening scenes started a bit slow, I was not disappointed in the caliber of actors signed onto this series and SMG's flawless portrayal of TWO main characters. I was blown away by the authentic way Gellar portrayed Bridget as a drug addict, and on the flip-side, Siobhan as a wealthy socialite. The pilot contains a lot of twists and turns to the story that might at first seem confusing, but are unraveled in subsequent episodes during the season. I enjoy this type of TV writing that makes me as the viewer think about what might happen the following week. Reminded me a lot of how the writers of LOST would leave you guessing. If you are a fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar, this series is a must watch as it not only highlights the ability of Gellar to move beyond her role as "Buffy," but shows viewers the depth of her acting abilities. Give Ringer a chance, you won't be disappointed if you stick with the story!
Arrow: Honor Thy Father (2012)
Predictable and Intriguing at the same time
While tonight's episode "Honor Thy Father" was predictable about the fate of the bad guys, there were a few elements that hooked me as a viewer enough to DVR the next episode. First, I am really enjoying the dynamic between Oliver and his bodyguard. I hope that the writers continue to develop that relationship because let's face it, Oliver needs a friend/mentor. Second, I like the set up of flashbacks to the island and getting a peek into what really happened during those 5 years. Let's just say, tonight left me saying, "What?!" Lastly, I am holding out to find out what type of role John Barrowman will be playing in episode five. I think he is such a fantastic actor that he will add another layer of depth to the interactions between characters. With all of that said, some of the action and plot development is pretty predictable, but I think the back story of the 5 years on the island and the secrets his father told him will keep it interesting. Hopefully, it will continue. I really would like to see this series get a second season!
Emily Owens M.D. (2012)
Another medical drama???
I'm sorry not even with Justin Hartley in the cast could I be persuaded to watch more than 10 minutes of this show. No chemistry between main characters, no real sense of direction on where this show is going, and an awkward commercial promo of a screaming Emily at a child on a playground...left me saying, "not funny, but disturbing." This seems like an attempt to add a medical drama to the CW lineup because every other network has one too. I'm still not sure if this is a drama or a comedy? I think viewers would be better off watching The Mindy Project on FOX. It is clearly Better acted, has a better story line, and better writing. Unfortunately, Emily Owens, MD is another CW fail for me.
