Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Educate yourselves!
I adore Moira's vocabulary. It is splendid and bombilating. Her outfits are angelic.
I love David's character that titillates me.
I love Al ex us' for always beeing glee riden and a little bedeviled while also being shallow.
Otherwise, the show is on point. One of the bestestestest so far.
The Shivering Truth (2018)
Sensational!
Watched it while I couldn't sleep and started with episode 6. It was so disturbingly weird and profound at the same time that I loved it. It's surrealistic and illogical, yet deep and appealing. It's like a wonderful but weird dream.
It is one of the most daring short animation I've seen. A must watch.
The show is not your normal comedy. So skip it if you want to laugh.
Ozark (2017)
Oh boy...
Where do I start? Is it similar to Breaking Bad? Yes, it is.
But it's a different path. While the last episode suggests that he turns white while she turns dark.
The narrative is cohesive. I enjoy it a lot.
All the haters out there saying season 2 was weaker than the first. I agree. Still have my hopes up that it all will come together in season 3.
I loved Breaking Bad, The Night Of, HTGAWM (first season), and I like some good twists. But Ozark is well-written to have your fingernails pinched in your armrests.
So, give it a shot. Was never fan of a series from the very first episode. Now we are here...
Sneaky Pete (2015)
Spoilt by Breaking Bad and Ozark,...
This series is just not good. Who likes Breaking Bad and Ozark and was in dire need to fill the holes those shows left, don't try it to fill it with this one here.
4 stars just for the acting. Storylines and conversations at some point are not relatable.
I really wanted to like that show... I really tried.
The Dragon Prince (2018)
Well, is it Avatar?
No it's not. Is the animation off? It is. Is the story interesting, well the hell yeah.
Am I family-watching? Maybe? Do we binge-watch. Sure we do.
It's a good series/animation? Would recommend.
We just should neglect the fact that it obviously wasn't produced in Korea but in Rambutanian. There, where 3D is just a concept.
Trial & Error (2017)
This is one gem
I love this show. It's full of quirky nonsense and it makes you laugh all the time.
Other shows like this are Superstore, Teachers, Mr. D
The Middle (2009)
Heck (!) you will be missed...
It was one worthy show. It's been long years with you guys. I am kind of sad.
Best wishes from Germany.
Killing Eve (2018)
Not too bad
I enjoyed the first episode. Since English is not my native language, some of the British mumbojambo I didn't get, but overall I liked it. It has a nice premise and the wit of the main characters are joyful.
But of course even this show is not mentally challenging. I wouldn't say it's shallow but it's this "good cop chases the assassin" and it's not even a new plot. Maybe it gets better when the story unfolds. Everything is pointing to some same-sex admiration (even the title picture points to that) which I am looking forwards to, cause I wanna know if it's plausible or just thrown in for the quota.
We will see. So far, I will continue watching.
Siren (2018)
Really enjoyable show.
I have to admit that I am not a fan of Arielle or that mermaid nonsense, but I actually liked this one. Arielle has gone dark.
It's here and there lacking of consistency but alas, I mean, it's a shallow show. Some fiction here, some myth there. The mermaid is portrayed very well by the right cast. Cudos for that.
The first two episodes made me hungry for more. I am "dyn" for now.
Here and Now (2018)
Europe calling.
I do not get the negative reviews here. I think it's a wonderful family drama with the right topics and the right amount of pace converning the development of the characters.
The mystics added to it hopefully unfolds into a plausible ending, but aside from that it gives a speciality to that series. The ending of that might be that we all are intertwined but still, I liky myths and mystery. It's a very enjoyable show with depth to all of their characters.
I like that show.
Youth & Consequences (2018)
Enjoyable and watchable show
It is like "Gossip Girl" meets "13reasons why". Since I liked both of said shows, this one is quite good as well.
It's nothing hard to digest and the topics are rather shallow, but it's okay to watch it.
Is the acting the best? Well, most certainly not, but who expects an Oscar for that...
If you like teen-drama with secrets and "nerds vs. popular kids", this show is for you.
Deception (2018)
Utter nonesense
Boy, was I fooled by the first episode. I thought: What a refreshing show!
Well, it didn't last very long cause the second episode has proven to be be flat and dull. It's a shame that this show got 7.6 in ratings...
The acting is mediocre at best, the storyline in the second episode is made up by a 7yo girl/boy and the plottwists are merely change of storyline and more than predictable.
I am more than disappointed.
The Little Hours (2017)
Lord have mercy
This is by far the worst movie, I have ever sat through.
I thought, I'd give it a shot 'cause of Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offermann aso. But boy was I wrong... The story was absurd, the acting was off, you never knew with the language if it was medieval or modern-funny-ish or so... It was just pure awkward and sometimes I even threw up a little 'cause of this BS. I am sorry, but that movie isn't even "indie-good", it's just plain awful. I don't know how else to express my disgust for that "shartwork".
Move on. If you ever consider this movie, it might be better pointing a gun to one's head...
The Night Of (2016)
Slow pace every episode, strong finish every episode...
I have to admit that I am no fan of series like "who-dunn-it", because there are a lot of them and they are poorly made.
This one, on the other hand, is a jewel. The camera is awesome, the actors are stunning, and the plot is compelling.
I'm not much of a writer since I thought "Revenge" was good (referred to the #1 season), so I am laying low here. But this is another masterpiece (after GoT) from HBO. Cudos. I have not much series or shows I do advertisement for, but this is one really worth seeing.
Very cautious attempt to the end: I hope he did it. :) To the girl/boy from Ghana some reviews before: I have seen African film making (produced and set in Africa)... The lions in a documentary are the only good ones if they catch their prey. And I'm pretty sure they filmed themselves by a go-pro. Nothing more to be said, nothing more to criticize, nothing more to be judged.
Angie Tribeca (2016)
The rating is completely BS! Should be at least 7,5 or higher....
Everybody loves Airplane- or The Naked Gun-like movies, but this is rated way too low.
Sure it's not subtle humor or even intellectually challenging, but it's the obvious and dumb jokes that makes the series charming. I cannot understand the bad ratings or how you comment on that show if you do not like it at all.
The series itself doesn't claim to be like a master piece or have a nice plot. It's just like a bunch of puns and wordplays, which are obvious but entertaining. If it was a show with substance I could understand (and support) constructive criticism by users/viewers.
Would everybody with bad rating get their stick out of their a***, get in the mood and welcome a silly, hilarious new show in our bad and sometimes shocking reality? Thank you.
UnREAL (2015)
First 20min are super boring, but then...
...it gets really interesting. Maybe it's a little over the top but still - as a viewer of reality shows - that's how it has to be made... I definitely think that this show is worth a shot and that the ongoing plot might be more interesting than the first twenty minutes.
Nonetheless, the last twenty minutes got me hooked and it's a perfect review on what's happening behind the scenes. Reminds me of a scripted (fake) reality show where people just invaded a normal family and "added" some drama by poisoning people with peanut butter through a dog just for the quota. It all endend up by the family father going berserk and killing the whole family out of desperation*.
That show is really promising. And I hope it will be still on next Tuesday.
EDIT: Watched the first four episodes and BOY... it's getting intense. I am really hooked and the actors/actresses are pretty awesome.
Decent finale. Good opening for season 2 which hopefully soon will be to come... I bow down to such mind-effing stories.
=============================
*The above mentioned show with the "peanut butter" is called "Reality Show" from 2013 and way underrated (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2451076/).
Parks and Recreation (2009)
Lovely reflection of the office work
Me, as an government clerk ("Beamter", specific German term), has to say that the charm of the series is the non-sense of governmental actions.
I am a fan from the first episode and it amuses me, how willing and capable people are hold back by some "stupid" non-wits. I love the enthusiasm "Leslie Knope" has for everybody and everything and even sometimes convinces the grumpiest of all her staff.
It's kind of a romantic comedy... I mean, Leslie is in love with the government and the politics around her, and she tries so very hard to do everything just right. Unfortunately, so often everything she does just backfires and holds her back. I can really relate to that. It's hard to bridge the gap between law and citizens because the clerks will always embody the pure evil. But in fact, the pure evil still is the law itself we have to follow and not the clerks/state's employees that try to convey. And in the end, it's the citizens that voted for the laws by making their choices in the booth on election day.
Half-witted written dialogs... I don't know. It's just quirky, satirical and sometimes cynical. But that show is exactly how it is: govern-"mentally" insane. :)
(You can keep any spelling/grammatical mistakes, I am just humbly apologizing for them.)
Game of Thrones (2011)
Fan since the very first hour
I cannot understand why people talk about abomination and sex and why it is bad - when placed in context. Wow. Never happened in history before at all... So that's why we are all created by God and even should make political correct shows... WTF! OMG. Get real. It's fantasy... And I never was a fan of that genre. But what some people write here is just stupidity. I mean, referring to an IQ of the people who watch a show to distract themselves and want to be entertained is just pure ignorance.
For me it's one of the best shows ever made although I prefer the books. For me, as a native German, the books are harder to understand than the show actually is, but still. Images come while reading. Yet, I have to admit that the show/series is very close to the books and the pictures match.
I always tell my friends if GoT would run for 24/7, I would take holidays for that.
Keep it going. Looking forward to season 4, although I know what's coming.
Revenge (2011)
It gets worse from episode to episode...
At first, I was THE biggest fan and would have rated that show almost 100 out of ten. So, I was totally into that series... Since Season two has begun it's gradually getting worse... If I had known that in before, I would have stopped watching it after season 1 and thought of an end on my own. The whole story is so artificially constructed that's almost an ordeal to watch it (referring to THE INITIATIVE)... The Initiative did that, the Initiative is scary, the Initiative will kill you... For my ears it's like a writer's block and the staff didn't know what to construct next. BTW: will there be aliens soon? I am so disappointed and still hope that Revenge gets it together and make a sharp turn into "WOW, EXCITING!!!" (like Season 1)
There's one good thing: the actors are all doing a very good job. Still, if the content gets worse, there's not much to rescue.
(Since I'm no native speaker, I am not perfect in grammar. Sorry for any mistakes.)
Parenthood (2010)
Be The Bravermans
(At first, I am German and English is not my mother language. So sorry for any mistakes.) I cannot tell, why I think it's a great show (also love Revenge, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, aso) but the characters are well invented and every actress/actor plays its role tremendously fine. I cannot help it but every episode of each season gets me thinking: "Was it that way in your family?" "Could have been that way?" "Should it have been that way?" I don't know. The show awakens feelings within me. Either to be a part of it or to hate the style kids are being raised, siblings conversing with each other, many people speaking at the same time, the problems within a family and the solutions for those...
I think, even if it's not my family, over the seasons you want to know the Bravermans; for everybody has its problems and opens up towards the rest of the family and discusses solutions. Those solutions might not be the best ones but they are kind of real and they are probable. It's nice to see how a family deals with the daily (and heavier) problems and give options to solve them by communicating.
The show is for everyone: who has kids (dealing with them), who had a great childhood (comparing it to its own), who might had not such a great family/childhood... It's a very good and profound series with real dialogs that might have happened exactly that way. Just try it and judge it on your own.
