The Comic Strip Presents...: A Fistful of Travellers' Cheques (1984)
Probably THE best....
this is probably my favourite of the comic strip episodes, the pastiches are terrific, with unforgettable one-liners and homages to the classic westerns we all know. rik mayall and peter richardson are absolutely brilliant as the two leads, with adrian edmondson turning in a hilarious performance as billy balfour 'the man with no name'. this was one of the very few episodes which rik mayall co-wrote, and there are definite bits or lines that just scream out 'rik wrote this bit!', and with peter richardson and pete richens writing it too, there were plenty of typical comic strip style jokes. this is one episode that you should definitely see, you most certainly won't regret this half hour of pure genius.
The Comic Side of 7 Days (2004)
Funny satire of the previous week
this programme is a simple concept: comedians sit in front of a camera and give their comic views on the news of the past week. while not all the comedians are laugh out loud funny, the majority of the talent will keep you laughing for half an hour.
two particular comedians to look out for are marcus brigstocke and john oliver. the two have very similar styles of presenting themselves-they never break a smile, and say their views as if they were written in front of them, it is hard to describe but after watching this, you'll see what i mean.
in a nutshell: this programme shows new comedic talent joking about anything and everything involved in the news, and is well worth a look.
8 Out of 10 Cats (2005)
Fantastic bit of British game-show comedy!
8 out of 10 cats is a game show in which two teams answer questions linked to opinion polls answered for by the general British public. Hosted by the terrific Jimmy Carr, it features Sean Lock and Dave Spikey (both also brilliant) as the team captains, and a host of famous faces to be the other team members. The comedy comes thick and fast, especially from Lock and Spikey, with regular quips from the guests, most of which are surprisingly funny! With a host like Carr, and team captains who know what they're doing, this programme is an absolute treat and should not be missed.
This programme has become one of my favourite comedy game shows, up there with Have I Got News For You, Shooting Stars, and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Don't Miss!
