Love & Death (2023)
Candy (2022) on Hulu, with Jessica Biel?
30 April 2023
Did nobody see that? Because the reviews and ratings on this one suggests the world has no idea it was made just last year. If anything this seems like a dumbed down version of it.

Nothing against the actors, but I don't get why HBO decided to re-make a year old show, that was quite well done in the first place.

I won't give details, or review Candy here. But, if anyone has not seen it already, better watch it first.

There should be enough stories around, for companies as large as HBO to make a series. Is there some politics here, I don't know? Someone involved in the case wanted another version, maybe?

But yes, Candy!

Dave Chappelle: The Closer (2021 TV Special)
1/10
The unsurprising bigot-Dave.
13 October 2021
Bigotry is not comedy.

Not when the performer demonstrates feeling great pleasure from the abuse of an entire social group; and supports movements and entities that aim to have Transgender people denied their existence.

It's intentional, majoritarian sadism, masked as entertainment.

The instant attempts of subterfuge and denial, from the defendants of Chapelle, have obvious similarities with the farcical language commonly used by the global fascist movement of this decade. Branches of this very movement in America, form the misogynist, homophobic, transphobic online (and real world) mobs (to name just a few). Their leaders-who run various phony organisations, podcasts, violent movements and even riots-profit handsomely off their cult members. Some of these instigators pose as random entertainers such as podcasters, some run misinformation/propaganda platforms, some pretend to be reputed psychologists and surprise, some are performing comedians.

These are the people that Chapelle is taking his cues from. Quite a few of them may be known to him. The circle of old, retiree-age bigots can be seen in all professions.

There is another observation to be made, especially in the case of 'entertainers' such as this. Past a certain age, comedians and entertainers who fail to keep up with socio-political change and don't give up on their bigotry have two paths left for them. Either, the younger generations begin expecting better and no longer find their abusive garbage funny. So they start to lose income. Or they start to scramble and reach for all remnants of their old, shrinking fan base. It is in this effort that they often get increasingly nasty and defensive, commonly towards the vulnerable and least likey to hit back.

Classically, in the entertainment industry that target has been women, immigrants, other races even.

If it hadn't been made absolutely unacceptable (honestly, still needs progress) we can be quite certain, Dave here would be making old-school, misogynist and homophobic jokes to this day.

We can safely add him to the list of cowards who sound like they just downloaded and watched some non-straight porn and are now afraid mommy and daddy and all their peers will find out.
