Tenet (2020)
"Don't try to understand it. Feel it."
First time watching felt like there was too much to comprehend at once.
Second time viewing with subtitles was way more enjoyable. So many more clues you notice. Ludwig Göransson's score is not on the level of Hans Zimmer's for past Nolan movies but still very memorable.
Whilst the film is extremely complex, I find that it's dangerous to overthink the movie and try make it make sense.
The quote from Barbara at the start sums up perfectly how to watch the movie: "Don't try to understand it. Feel it."
Project Power (2020)
It's a typical Netflix movie.
Seems Netflix have this way of making movies where they get a cool concept, get some big actors in, good VFX/CGI, action shots in the trailer and then when it comes to the plot in the film it's just so plain.
I was really excited to see Jamie Foxx and JGL together but other than that the rest of it just felt boring. The story was a bit cliche and then you have people like Casey Neistat and MGK having roles.
6/10.
The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
Storytelling in video games has never been more alive.
Naughty Dog really hit a home run with this and told an amazing story in a world that looked stunning and was fun to play through.
Having what happened to Joel at the start was a huge shock but one you have to eventually accept and realise that other people like Abby don't see Joel like we do.
Another game of Joel and Ellie roaming around would have been the first game all over again and not as interesting. Instead, the 2 or 3 flashback episodes with him were perfectly placed and just what the game needed.
Ellie as the protagonist works so well and you can really see her growth from the 4 year time jump. It seems she gets a happy ending on the farm with Dina but it takes a tragic turn as she ends up alone.
She's lost Dina, J.J, Tommy, Jesse and Joel (who she never got to forgive properly) and everyone she loves. She can't even play the guitar properly anymore. She ultimately ends up alone after breaking the cycle of revenge, knowing that had she killed Abby then Lev would grow up without 'his Joel' and would eventually come for revenge on Ellie.
I guarantee 99.9% of people bombing this game with 1/10 reviews have not played the game yet and have most likely watched a couple clips online. Naughty Dog were really brave to pull a story like this off and it might be the best PS4 game ever.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
The 1/10 ratings are unnecessary but this is nothing spectacular..
With the R rating I really expected this movie to be fun and violent but it just seemed a bit empty at times.. like nothing was happening and you were just waiting on things to get on.
It also felt a bit cringe at certain situations and the dialogue didn't feel suitable from other characters, other than all that I thought Margot Robbie's performance was great and the action sequences were good mostly.
I can't see a sequel for this happening as it's no surprise the ratings are just average and the box office is off to a rather disappointing start..
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Disregard all 1/10 reviews.
Giving a movie 1/10 means there was absolutely nothing slightly positive about it which is a complete lie.
No it wasn't perfect, but if you just sit back and watch rather than spend the 2 hours nitpicking for flaws you will feel it was a movie nowhere near as bad as people want you to think it is. It still baffles me how Star Wars fans are so determined to let the world know they hate it so much.
If someone reviews movies with only 1/10 or 10/10 then that says all you need to know about them.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
What were people expecting?
This movie gave the closure that was needed for such a beloved character like Jesse Pinkman. By the sounds of it, some people expected Walt to rise from the grave and for the pair to go on a killing spree together.
It was realistic and not too far fetched. Jesse's friends Badger and Skinny Pete showed they were true friends and that not everyone thought Jesse was a monster. And the best line was arguably the one Walt said, "you didn't have to wait your whole life to do something special." it just reminds Jesse his life isn't over and he has the chance to start a new life which Walt never got.
Overall, a great story and the cinematography was definitely up a level compared to the show. I do hope they leave the series now and don't tarnish the name, it's a great ending.
