Wild Bill (2011)
Not AMAZIN but not a bad experience either
The movie was very entertaining, most of the characters were fun and the film always kept moving
Performances were solid throughout
Felt a bit dissipointed by some aspects of the film but I don't want to spoil
Definitely a good movie, surprised I hadn't heard of it prior as it has quite a few recognisable faces.
Joker (2019)
Good but definitely not as good as some have said
This movie is kept alive by Joaquin Phoenix's performance. If he had not been in it this film it would have been worse.
First off, there is absolutely no way this Joker could ever become The Clown Prince of Crime or a threat to any Batman no matter how 'realistic' you say this version is
Todd Phillips is clearly trying to pay tribute to the film legend that is Martin Scorsese. However, in doing so he has created a movie that only really functions as a mashed together mess. It takes from him (music, story, look), it isn't influenced by his work (like Todd Phillips was ranting about how he was influenced by classics like Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy). This isn't Logan which had very clear influences to Westerns but still held its own as a great film. This isn't The Dark Knight which clearly drew influences from Heat. This is a phoney director trying to mark somebody elses much better work as his own for a modern audience and honestly I find it completely despicable.
Joker is a good film, maybe a great one but the best of the decade? I'm not too sure if copying something that came out 30/40 years really means it deserves these acolades
The one thing I hope people will do after this movie is try, just try and watch some classics from Scorsese and DeNiro; Watch Taxi Driver then watch King of Comedy, please. I promise, as an anonymous internet user that watching these films will change your views completely on this film. The 2 of them have much more going for them and you'll see very clearly how Todd Phillips, the man behind some moderate but not ultimate successes such as The Hangover trilogy, Old School and War Dogs was able to create what some are calling 'the best film of the decade' (he cheated)
Still a great film but it is entirely anchored by one of the best actors of this generation
Enjoy the film, listen to your opinion, not the hype, 8/10
