Another Cinderella Story (2008)
just as good as hilary duff's version
watch it. selena gomez and drew seeley are both hot which is already a good reason to see the movie. the dancing is fantastic (though i don't believe selena did all that dancing, considering how terribly she "dances" now) and the acting was good. selena acts better than hilary duff and is prettier as well. there were more chemistry and romantic moments between her and drew than between hilary duff and chad michael murray. i thought it was a good idea that JP discovered mary's identity halfway through the movie so they could actually develop their romance. the dance off at the end was awesome probably my favorite part. basically i think the dancing plays a huge part in my love for this movie. without it i wouldn't have liked it that much. go see it if you like Disney like movies
Camp Rock (2008)
A typical DC movie
This movie was pretty good for Disney Channel. The big mistake was making it right after High school musical, because now everyone is comparing the two, and obviously HSM is better. But let me say something: I hate DC. I don't like Hannah Montana or that new series with Selena Gomez. I didn't even like Lizzie McGuire all that much... The only things I *really* liked from DC were High School Musical (of course) and now, it's time for Camp Rock.
All the negative reviews have a point, but seriously? I don't think DC made a real effort for this one. High School Musical is supposed to be the big franchise, this was just a new movie that got famous because of the Jonas Brothers and Demi. Does that take away from the enjoyment of it? In my case, the answer is no.
The best thing I can say about the movie is that it brought back childhood memories of when I went to a country club. It feels like you are there rather than watching a movie:)
Oh, and I can't figure out why people are against the Jonas Brothers. They rock! ^_^ Joe is a great actor (ok, looking at the context) and the others don't even appear enough to consider them. I may be crazy, but I didn't see all the bad acting people are commenting on... I actually thought in HSM they all overacted or played themselves (like Vanessa plays herself instead of Gabriella).
It also has a good storyline, that's limited for being Disney and being competition to HSM.
While I do agree that the movie isn't as amazing as the commercials make it seem, I still enjoyed it a lot.
It's a typical DC movie, nothing more. What else were you looking for?
Bishôjo Senshi Sailor Moon (2003)
Not as bad as I thought it would be
I thought it would be an utter crap, but surprisingly, I found myself liking it a lot. Let's make it clear: It's NOT a mind-boggling masterpiece, the music isn't the best and the action will come across as pathetic and even outrageous for a good action sucker (fortunately, that's not my case), but honestly, do good-action suckers know Sailor Moon (in any on its forms) exists? Another mess-up is the monsters, transformations and CGI effects-- they look sorta cheap and kitschy and very Power Rangers-like. However, the other virtues PGSM has kinda make up for this. Unlike many, I never saw the anime when I was a 6-year-old, and when I started to watch it online, I thought it was very slow-paced and got bored in the third chapter. I thought that the characters were pretty lame (particularly Usagi) and not given much importance and I desperately wanted a new senshi to appear soon, so that something actually happened to the show. However, no senshi appeared till episode 8. Rei appears right after Ami, in the episode 10, but we don't get the slightest glimpse of Makoto, my 2nd favourite senshi (in PGSM and the SM manga; in the anime she is really dumb) till episode 25! I mean, please. The action was supposed to really start once all of the Senshi were joined up, not be almost an entire saga like in the anime! The characters are simply more likable. Rei, Makoto, Usagi and Minako were all dumb, immature, high-pitched boy-crazy bimbos with very slight differences among them in the anime. Ami--or Amy, whatever--was your typical "cool nerd", to call it someway. However, in PGSM, every one of the Senshi has a distinct personality and is much more realistic and convincing than her usually stereotyped anime counterpart. All in all, the better pace and character development of PGSM was what made me like it more than the anime. Besides, the acting is pretty good, specially taking into account it's the first TV role for all the main actresses (the Sailor Senshi, of course) and in fact almost the entire cast.
Floricienta (2004)
Good at the beginning
I really liked and even loved this show at the beginning. It was pretty funny and a bit less clichéd than I expected from Cris Morena¬¬. However, I began to get annoyed by the endless twists and turns and how repetitive and Disneyishly sappy it eventually got.
I know nearly all the soap operas have this kind of stuff (in fact, that's why I'm not a big fan of them): your typical mushy, exasperatingly twisting romance, your typical goody-goodies, your typical money-loving gold digger baddies, your typical fake pregnancy, the whole lot. So if you actually LIKE soap operas, the conventional formula may be bearable and don't bore you as it happened to me.
SPOILER. In the 2nd season, Federico dies and the show becomes an utter crap. Watch the 1st season till the last episodes and DON'T watch the 2nd. It's AWFUL.
