Reviews
Red Election (2021)
Throughly enjoyed it
Loved it. Don't understand the negative reviews. Liked all the characters, especially Stephen dellane's.
Plot was good and intriguing. Sure it's no le Carrie but it's definitely one of the better spy dramas for a long while.
I think they could have done more with the head of section character though, and I wasn't convinced by the pm's character but overall my wife and I really enjoyed it
A good bit of politics mixed with spying.
In fact the only thing I don't like is not knowing if they'll go ahead with series 2. Be annoyed if they don't. Keen to see how the story plays out. Its got loads of legs.
System Error (2018)
Takes easy pot shots with nothing new
Disappointed. Its basically saying capitalism bad, Karl marx good.
Was hoping to discover something new, and exploring the good as well as the bad about capitalism and what it could teach us about how we might move forward
but it's just setup as easy pot shots at capitalists without truly giving due credit to the successes. And at the same time it's peppered with quotes from Karl marx suggesting that he was right all along. Really? So by doing this it seems to suggest the answer to our current mess is Karl marxs communism?
Sorry but Missed opportunity and nothing new.
Interstellar (2014)
One of my favourite films of all time
Brilliant. Watched it loads
Story is cracking. Loved the fact that they spent a long time on the science before production too. Kip Thorne was heavily involved in the concept. He's even written a book on the science behind it.
But even if you're not a science nerd it's fabulous cinematography and a truly engaging plot. Acting is fab too.
Perfect pace and just love how the story unfolds.
Makes you really think and at the same time helps you grasp some of the basics to the most important realities in the universe we live in.
Master piece
Ad Astra (2019)
Enjoyed it
I watched this at the end of a hectic work week, and it was a relaxing thing to watch. I appreciated the slow pace and sunk into it.
Cool cinematics too, great scenery etc
I know people are moaning about science anomalies but I didn't care 1 jot. Not really the point of the film.
I do get peoples point of the Donald sutherland character, not sure what he was about/point of him etc
But overall a lot better than the formulaic screech, bang, shoot, kill type films out there these days...
But I'm glad I gave it a go
The Liberator (2020)
Loved it. Different and pleased it was
I was initially turned off at the thought of the animation. But quickly got used to it, and by the end loved it. It really suited the film and added to the experience.
The series itself is brilliant. Engaging and portrays the horror of war in a way that is not cratuitous but yet really gets the awfulness across in a way that you can digest.
It straddles the feel good element of hero's and the horror of what they went through well.
Brave choice in the way they made it. Congratulations to the creators.
Sad it ended.
