Safe Haven (2013)
Not like the other Sparks movies
When I went to this movie, I was expecting a classic romance story, much like Dear John or The Notebook. I am a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks, as well as the Nicholas Sparks movies that had come out, so needless to say, I was very excited to see this movie.
To be honest, I was disappointed. I found this movie to be more of a thriller than a romance. Now, don't get me wrong, I do love a good thriller movie - but that's not what I was anticipating. There was a lot of action, running from villains, etc.
I found the movie to be quite slow to get going as well. The story is dragged out when the whole movie could have been shown in an hour. Pretty much the entire movie happens within the last 20 minutes.
There are two MAJOR plot twists at the end. One of them made total sense and you'll feel stupid for not seeing it. The other? Kind of unnecessary. I don't know. It felt out of place to me.
Overall, a decent movie. There are cute, lovey-dovey scenes, but don't expect anything like The Notebook. Bring your Klenex for the end though!
Black Swan (2010)
Amazing
This is truly an incredible movie. There are so many unexpected turns that it constantly keeps you drawn in. The symbolism is so vivid that you literally notice new things after the 5th time watching it. It's the type of thriller that really gets you thinking. Not only is the acting phenomenal, but the effects are breathtaking. Nina is such a well-developed character, that you really get to know throughout the movie. The way she changes from the first to the last seen is astonishing. I cannot stress enough how well done this movie is. Overall, this movie is positively brilliant. I have seen it so many times, and it continues to astound me. If you haven't seen this movie, I highly suggest you get on it. Prepare to be swept away by the elegance. Amazing!
Megan Is Missing (2011)
Creepy and disturbing
This movie had originally looked like a good laugh, but it was truly quite the opposite. The apparent goal of the movie is to warn teenagers and parents about the dangers of the internet, however from what I could tell, the movie was *actually* made to act out some disgusting, disturbing fetishes.
My first problem with the movie is that it exploits these teenagers. The 13 year old girl is discussing giving head at the age of 10. Not only does she say it happened, but she goes into about 10 minutes worth of detail. It was at this point in the movie that I began to question the director's intentions with the movie, and believe me, it got worse.
The end of the movie features 22 minutes of "uncut footage" wherein we watch: - the 14 year old girl (Amy) chained to a wall in a dungeon - Amy being forced to eat out of a bowl like a dog - Amy being brutally raped (yes, the entire thing - blood and everything) - Amy being shown her best friend Megan's dead body which is sitting up in a barrel - Amy being put in the barrel with her best friend's dead body and banging to be let out - "josh" digging a hole, which is literally a 10 minute scene where he digs as Amy screams from inside the barrel - finally josh buries Amy alive with her best friend's body
Now usually I am not offended by gory, disturbing scenes. In fact, sometimes they definitely help portray a message. In this case, however, the last 22 minutes were UNBELIEVABLY unnecessary, and simply horrifying to watch. It is EXTREMELY inappropriate and downright creepy.
