The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Good for the discovering of the famed musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber in the comfort of a cinema.
Reading the above comment from emma_crawfordgreene, I am now in a state of shock as to how anyone could find the Phantom of the Opera, the movie, bad. Unfortunately I haven't the chance to watch the original musical, but I've always been an avid fan of musicals and especially the songs of the Phantom of the Opera. I admire Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman's awesome stage coupling and even though I do not know much of the topic of musical casting, I must admit that Gerard Butler's voice isn't good nor suited for a musical... especially as the role of the Phantom. A musical genius. But actually I thought his acting was quite very good and I do think he looks sexy as the Phantom. ^^" Maybe Ewan Mcgregor would have done a better job. His voice is just mind-blowing (in Moulin Rouge) Anyway. I though Emmy Rossum was quite... charming as Christine and yes, I do agree that Patrick Wilson did an awesome job as Raoul (I like his hair!). I thought the costumes and make-up and set and music and practically everything was very well done though... but like I said, I am no expert regarding such topics so... pardon my... inexperience. So... it is not as good as the stage version, as emma_crawfordgreene happened to emphasize... but I think it's still worth a watch. I mean, relax man, it's just a movie... it is good for people who haven't had a chance to and would like to come to know the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the Phantom of the Opera, in the comfort of a cinema (save money, better view) ...and I'm sure Andrew Lloyd Webber has his reasons for such a production. Pardon my "insolence", but my rating for this movie would be a 4 out of 5 and my verdict, the movie version of the Phantom of the Opera is awe-aspiring and simply brilliant. A definite must-watch. Just do it with a considerably less critical attitude and it would be an enjoyable experience.
Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper (2004)
...Rebuttal. Personal Opinions Differ. (:
Actually, I thought Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper was surprisingly good. Usually I'd kick up a big fuss before watching Barbie, of all things, in anything at all. But as an avid fan of musicals and music in general, I felt compelled to watch it after one advertisement as I thought the music was indeed refreshingly catchy. The plot line was pretty sweet and... I just enjoyed it tremendously... even though I have to agree that the commercials were irritating. I particularly like the song "I Am A Girl Like You" and would seriously recommend fans of musicals and/or music in general to watch it as a form of relaxing distraction.
PS. I'd also like to comment on cyclone259's comments about adults finding Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper to their tastes. Everyone has his/her own opinions and you would do well not to judge them based on them. In fact, it's actually quite insulting.
