Enjoyable.

Sure, I liked this movie. The acting was good, the main characters attractive, and the main plot plausible enough to hold my interest. I'm a fan of Lynne Whitfield's work, so I was glad to see that she produced this project. But for me, the reason to watch was for the effective contribution of actor Greg Vaughan. He's simply delicious and one could almost eat him with a spoon. I only wish there was more romantic steamrolling between him and lovely leading lady, Garcelle Beauvais.

Watch this film all the way through.

I just finished watching One Potato Two Potato, which TCM aired. The film is terrific, and by today's standards, it still holds up as a film that resonates emotionally and socially. Without saying too much about what happens, I'll just say that I was simply stunned by the film overall. I'm so glad to have seen it. I'm still affected by what I just saw. Anyone who isn't moved by OPTP is surely in need of a heart transplant. This was a great vehicle for actress Barbara Barrie. And the little girl who plays her daughter is top drawer. Such a good movie!

Beyond good!

Favorite line from episode 1: "What's the the point of a f*cking window when you can't jump out of it?" Patrick Melrose is awesome. You won't be able to take your eyes off the screen. I only wish that I could binge-watch the entire series, but tonight is only episode 1. This show is a triumph. One more thing: This is only my first time seeing Cumberbatch in anything. I'm now obsessed with him.

Nobodies (I) (2017–2018)

Nobodies is so FUNNY!
12 May 2018
Who are these people giving this smart, funny show such low ratings? It's obvious that this show is above your capacity for humor. For those of you born a true ability to appreciate well-written humor, funny plots, and a creative cast, then Nobodies is your kind of show. If you can't find the funny in this terrific sitcom, then consider sticking to old episodes of Webster, Alf or The Brady Brides -- shows like those would probably be much more suited to tickle your particular funny bone.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Blunt and Kasinski were great. The film blew, however.
1 May 2018
I really wanted to enjoy this film. It seemed to have great buzz. I purposely avoided reading reviews or watching trailers so that I could see it with as little prejudice as possible. But, I must say, I never felt a lift-off while watching it. The story was interesting enough to keep me in my theater seat, but I sat there feeling more frustrated than thrilled. The only part of the film in which I felt remotely queesy involved Emily Blunt and a nail. Even then, I found the scene implausible. I understand that it's best to suspend my disbelief when watching a film about alien creatures. But I was so beset with ongoing plot questions and feelings of "oh, c'mon!" that I couldn't allow myself to enjoy what was presented onscreen. I did, however enjoy watching Kasinski on the big screen. His performance was sensitive and I was impressed with his onscreen chemistry with Blunt. Both actors were terrific in their roles, but for me, the story was full of holes and left me feeling sad and disappointed in the end. The material should have been better and it didn't rise to the level of the lead actors.

Phat Girlz (2006)

You low-raters have no sense of humor.

Phat Girls was fricken funny. It was full of good jokes and Mo'Nique is a charming comedic lead. A romantic comedy is not supposed to be Shakespeare. It's supposed to be cute and light and usually formulaic, which this movie was. Given that, the story took on a social issue and made it entertaining, humorous and totally watchable. If you can't crack a smile or allow yourself at least one belly laugh while viewing this movie, then you're probably the problem, not Mo'Nique.

Watch only if you've got some brains to follow along.

I enjoyed Pirates of Somalia far more than I thought I would. Evan Peters is credible and very watchable. The supporting cast is strong enough to keep you interested in a well-told story. I wasn't as informed about the piracy situation in Somalia. I'd wager that bunches of Westerners aren't, either. However, this film does a great job of laying out the recent Somali history, while also telling a compelling "true" story. I'd recommended Pirates of Somalia, but only to someone who can handle a human drama with some political history, good characters, and touches of humor. This film is not for the blissfully uninformed. You'll learn something. And you'll like it, too.
