Broken Diamonds (2021)
The bad reviews were left by people who clearly didn't get it
This was an excellent film. I wasn't expecting much from it... Staying in a hotel and am at the mercy of cable, and this movie happened to have just started so, I gave it a shot. I'm happy I did.
The sister is absolutely unlikable at times... Most times, really. She has Schizophrenia, and between it and the meds, she is all over the place. You can see where her brother is coming from in his frustration with her, as his entire life has revolved around her Illness, and his needs and accomplishments always took a back seat to it.
I never really felt he was overly selfish at any point, like another review claimed. He had big plans and was trying everything to prevent them from becoming derailed by his sister and her Illness, and he sees those efforts failing. He blames her for missing out on a lot throughout his life.
Through all of it, he is given insight by others and learns his sister, despite her Illness, has always taken an interest in him. He, on the other hand, did his best to not share that she existed, and he reflects on that.
It's a pretty powerful film, and seems very real. People suffering from this would be hard to like, if you weren't able to grasp that most the unlikable aspects of them were really the illness leading them. It gives a great outside view of what it's like for those living with someone with this illness, as well as those living with the illness themselves. Although, I've never been in the situation, so I can't speak to it's accuracy... But, it feels very real.
It's worth a watch. I feel a gained perspective, and I enjoyed the movie while doing so.
Not Cool (2014)
Just an awful waste of 90 minutes
Anyone giving this anything higher than a 3 is either -14 yrs old, family/friends of his or lying through their teeth because they're a fan. It is poorly directed, even more poorly acted (with the exceptions of the 2 lead female roles), awkwardly unfunny (using another reviewers term) and highly offensive...and I'm not sensitive.
There is nothing creative or witty about it. It is an epic fail...and if it wins this contest it will speak volumes negatively of the fans that Shane Dawson has and their character. I truly can't begin to understand how anyone could even stomach it, let alone like the movie.
This movie is trash...nothing more. It is of the quality you'd expect from some teenagers making a home movie in their parents' house....But with really good equipment. I wish I could've given it a "0".I only watched it all to accurately participate in "The Chair" contest...and knew within 2 minutes I hated it...But, rules forced me to watch if I wanted to participate.
Hollidaysburg (2014)
Absolutely worth watching and making a sequel
I'm a little short on time so, in short...I loved the film. I thought it was genuine and realistic. It was comical and touching. It was a well made film for its genre. I wish there weren't so many questions left at the end, but hope Starz considers making a sequel which would make this film even better, if done right, and tie up some loose ends left in this movie. That said, this was still a great flick, with great acting and memorable moments throughout.
As far as Not Cool....it was awful. Shane should be embarrassed. Crude and not funny....not witty....horrible acting by all but the 2 female leads...Just not a good movie.
