Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One (2024)
An Overstuffed Yet Thrilling Return to Form
#justiceleaguecrisisoninfiniteearthspartone BRIEF THOUGHTS:
After some iffy entries in the DC Tomorrowverse, I'm ecstatic to report that Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One is a damn good superhero multidimensional crossover with Barry Allen/Flash being the emotional core of the movie. It's very overstuffed and there's a lot going on, but as a part one of a larger trilogy, it mostly works. Not every Justice League member gets equal screen time and Wonder Woman's role is noticeably given the short end of the stick. This was a much better Flash movie than The Flash 2023 in my book. Matt Bomer does an excellent job voicing Barry Allen/The Flash and brings a ton of sincere humor and emotion to the scarlet speedster. The music by Kevin Riepl is also far more engaging and immersive than the soundtrack from most of the Tomorrowverse films and the animation is tolerable. If you have watched DC animated shows and movies since your childhood, I can definitely guarantee there's a few moments in here that'll bring you back to the early 2000's. A much needed win for DC animation and promises even better things to come.

Enemy (2013)
Jake Gyllenhaal gives a powerful performance on both sides
This is a great movie although the end caught me by surprise which is not a bad thing. Just like Prisoners, Denis Villeneuve creates a thriller that is full of tension and suspense. Our main character, Adam, is a disheveled history teacher who watches a recommended film. After he finishes it, he goes to bed but realizes that he has to rewind the movie because he remembers that he saw someone who looks exactly like him in a scene. From then on, he tries to find his double (and eventually does) and it is a thriller with suspense and tension that promises to keep you eyes glued to the screen throughout the whole film. This movie's runtime is very short (90 minutes) but it is just enough to develop the characters and plot. This is one of the best movies so far this year. With strong direction, head-scratcher symbols, and a great performance by Jake Gyllenhaal, Enemy is a very Hitchcock type of film. NOW I WILL TALK ABOUT THE ENDING DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN"T SEEN ENEMY: At the end of the film, the last shot is a huge spider that looks scared of Adam. Adam looks back at the spider with a sort of smile and the movie cuts to credits. I feel (not sure it's just my interpretation) that the black widow at the end meant that Adam was going to be killed because black widows kill the ones that they mate with. Just saying that this movie isn't for everyone. I loved Enemy and it is probably the best movie so far this year! I am going to give it the highest honors... of an A+!!!! SEE IT!!!!
Prisoners (2013)
Jackman shines in dark thriller
Prisoners movie review
Prisoners is a Mystery/Thriller film starring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, and Paul Dano. Prisoners is a film about two families who both of their daughters get kidnapped and both of the families with the help of the police, investigate and look for their daughters. This is a very dark, grim, and at times is a hard film to sit through. That being said, I have created a PainOmeter scale out of five (five being the worst) to inform you guys if you simply cannot take very violent and painful scenes. This will be addressed along will the film's final score. I loved this film! Hugh Jackman plays Anna's father and is the protagonist of the film. You can see how Jackman really loses his rag and does a great job as Keller Dover. There is one scene that involves Jackman doing something that I won't spoil but you will notice it and go WOW! The story is also very thought provoking and will keep you on the edge of your seat because of the direction and character building involved with this movie. Also Paul Dano who plays Alex Jones, is this weird adult with the IQ of a ten year old and is the main suspect of the investigation. I thought he nailed just the right tone of the character and was hard to "look at" at times. My favorite part of the film was surprisingly Jake Gyllenhaal's performance as the detective looking for the missing girls. Gyllenhaal still plays the role of a cop very well after all of that training for End Of Watch. Another great part of the film is that it manages to never take a rest on character building and story development. I hate when films give you time to take a break then start all over again and this film really avoids that entirely. I really have no problems with the film except for the runtime. Even though this was a great movie I just couldn't go for a perfect grade of an A+. I will give Prisoners an A solid.
