Sardar Udham (2021)
Technically a masterful film
If we talk about the movie only and not the script then its a masterful movie. Direction and cinematography is excellent. Some May have issue with the editing but non linear editing is the current trend and one has to be really focussed to keep track . Vicky kaushal has given his best performance till date but he the only bollywood star who is exceeding his performance from previous movies. Now I am more interested in Mackenshaw biopic. Rest of the cast also did well. My only criticism of the movie is in for of script as in some instances its factually incorrect and historians May give more pointers. Not Sure if Udham j.
The Legend of Hanuman (2021)
Excellent Attempt
This is a brilliant attempt in CGI. I am sure if the production value increases, we can match Hollywood given the animation skills we have. Story, we all know but the presentation is different. All the voice artists have done well. Though the background music is nice, soundtrack could have been better. Hopefully they improve in the next season. Please watch this without any prejudice.
Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020)
Boon to the OTT platform in India
2020 has been extremely unfair to the whole world through Covid but with all these negativity one positive thing has come out and that is the Indian content in OTT platforms. Scam 92 has come as a boon to such bad time for OTT platform. Reason it's content is comparable to best series in west. It is not only fast paced but also manages to hold you till the end. Credit goes to the director and the main protagonist Or Anti Hero Pratik Gandhi. 2020 also taught us that Bollywood has the drought of talent but not other regional industries. Pratik Gandhi is the best gift from Gujrati plays and movies to Indian audience.
Betaal (2020)
An excellent opportunity lost!
There are so many problems with this series when it had huge potential. The production value is high and still it was let down by poor dialogue writings and illogical sequences. Acting also below average. I wish a second season is initiated and the silly mistakes are corrected. As India needs it's own Zombie series.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Husband wife duo brilliant!!
It's hard to believe a movie with so few dialogues can keep you at the edge of the seat from beginning till end. Brilliant direction by John and nice emotions by all actors including the children. Eagerly waiting for the second part.
Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru (2016)
A thriller with pure Indianness
You may ask why Indianness is important and relevant to rate the movie. The reason, this movie did not loose a bit of thrill even if it depicts Indian values. It waved by not adding Bollywood style masala. Also a suspense thriller is great when it keeps you making guesses even till the last scene of the movie. Surely this movie does that. Really one of the best South Indian suspense thriller.
Durante la tormenta (2018)
An opportunity wasted
Movie has an excellent concept in fantasy and suspense genre. However the movie suffers from couple of mistakes. One even though it's fantasy movie, it bends the logic at its will. Last but not the least the choice main cast i.e. Adriana. Most of the time her part was irritating while the story demanded it to be sympathetic. Screen writer also responsible to some extent by giving her unnecessary emotions. I wish someone remakes this movie with these minor changes which really has the potential to be one huge success.
Uyare (2019)
It's a triumphant movie
Yes this is one heart warming triumphant movie. It deals with a very sensitive issue in India and I was surprised how the makers have handled this issue in such a deserving way. Parvathy is pretty but her acting in this movie speaks loud about the inner beauty. We need more movies like these with positive message.
Mission Over Mars (2019)
Best Of Ekta .... Surprisingly
The rise of web series in India is like a blessing to the entertainment industry. So many good contents available across all the streaming apps. Among all, the winner for me is Mission Over Mars which is available in Zee5 and Alt Balaji. Looking at the performance of each actor, it's obvious that it's a perfect casting. Thankfully it's not a usual shop opera but a mini series with nice pace and nice editing. Most importantly, it's about the pride of our nation and ISRO. I.e. Mission to Mars with limited resources and budget. Kudos to Vinay Waikul and the writers.
The Family Man (2019)
Indian version of Jack Ryan or better
Really proud to have some of the international level web series produced in India. The Family Man is one of them. Manoj Bajpayee is excellent as usual. The hero of the series is the fast paced screenplay. It does not fail to keep the attention till the end. I could not sleep the whole night to binge watch. Everyone acted well and direction is really nice. I have only one complain. Do we really need so much abuses just because there is no censorship in web series?
Super 30 (2019)
Worst casting to choose Hrithik in lead role
I am an Odiya but I tell you Hrithik's Bihari accent is horrible. Also I don't understand why the casting directors or producers choose Hrithik for challenging roles. Please accept the fact that he a great dancer but an average actor. The story had huge scope to be an award worthy movie(not filmfare as this movie may get Filmfare). But that scope was wasted. The whole movie was a painful experience for the forced accent and unnatural emotions.
Visaranai (2015)
Oscar worthy
Yes you are reading it right! The movies has everything to be oscar worthy. Thanks to Netflix, I discovered this movie. Had it been well marketed then, it would have got much more international prizes. Strange that even after india's Entry to academy awards, it didn't even get nominated. Every single actor has emoted realistically and from beginning till end one will be completely involved. Outstanding direction.
Brochevarevarura (2019)
A near perfect movie
One of the best movies of 2019. It is really encouraging to see innovation in the plot and screenplay in South cinema. In fact South Cinema has been producing some of the gems lately. All the caste have done their part but direction and editing is the hero of the movie.
Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya (2019)
Brilliant Screenplay!
Okay, to be honest I watched this movie seeing the overwhelming ratings on IMDB. And assure you it's every worth it. Amazing screenplay, nice acting by Naveen. Screenplay and execution by the director are the main hero of the movie. Can't reveal more without the spoilers. Hence go watch it!
Rangbaaz (2018)
Worth watching Indian crime drama
Good things first. Casting and acting are good and seems real. Probably the critics are looking for a breaking bad or Game of throne from a real life story. Location and cinematography helps in realism. Ravi Kishen and Ranveer shine and I want to see Ravi Kishen in more leadership roles as it suits him well because of his mannerism in acting.
Things that did not work - mainly the characterisation of Shiv Shankar Shukla. Somehow the story is trying to glorify criminalist through his characterisation. He has killed many innocent people including political leaders. Hence showing his remorse seemed forced. Also a Romeo like him rejecting physical pleasures in Bangkok seemed unreal. Overall the show has more good things to remember than bad things. Indian streaming channels have bright future!
Chernobyl (2019)
Astounding!
When I watched the first episode, I felt the series is over hyped. However the critic ratings forced me to watch the second episode and I am so thankful for the same. Why I loved this series is not because of the story as it's a well known incidence. But I liked the series for keeping it so realistic and close to the emotions of the victims. No series has ever
Been able to move me so much as Chernobyl did. Though GOT is still the best series for me. A must watch series for all the victims and affected people.
Badla (2019)
Brilliant and gripping
Sujoy ghosh has done it again. Not a very difficult role for the talented Tapsee. However Amitabh was brilliant and Amrita Singh did excellent in her part. The main hero of the movie was the screenplay and direction. In Bollywood thriller movies, the ending is usually prolonged unnecessarily. This movie had the perfect ending as well. The budget of the movie could have been reduced by at least one third if the movies was set up in India in any of the small cities or Goa.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Huge scope for following seasons
It's overall a good start and a perfect decision to make it a TV series in stead of an original film. Elen page's role was only justified in the final episode. Rest of the casting is good. Writing and pacing of the series can be improved in following seasons if we have any. Also more powerful characters can be introduced. Overall first season is better than expected.
Andhadhun (2018)
Screenplay is the true hero
It's very difficult to review a mystery movie without giving spoilers. I will try my best to save you from spoilers. It won't be wrong to say it was perfect casting. Radhika Apte did not have much to do, however she justified her part. Tabu and Ayushman played surprisingly perfect couple without being romantically involved. One can understand after watching the movie. Sriram Raghavan has done justice to an exceptional screenplay which is not surprising for someone who has built a strong resume with Johnny Gaddar, Ek Hasina This and Badlapur. Lastly it's a very satisfying movie.
Badhaai ho (2018)
An Indian middle class laugh riot
The movie is the proof of the current encouraging trend in Indian cinema which is coming up with lots of original concepts. Indian movies have started regaining their old charm by keeping the stories and characters real and relatable. This movie is one of them. Some of the points which makes the movie special are.....One - Conceiving a child in middle age, considered a taboo in indian middle class and the writer, director duo depicted this in a satirical way with lot of lmao moments. Two - Gajraj Rao and Surekha Sikri were exceptional and over shadowed Neena Gupta and Ayushman. I watched the movie yesterday and still laughing out loud by remembering the dialogues of Surekha Sikri. It's proven that Ayushman is best suited for boy next door characters and he has managed the emotions with humour so well. It's really nice to see Neena Gupta after long and she has a done remarkable job with controlled emotions. Gajraj Rao has always been a good actor but recent directors are getting best out of him by showing more faith and giving more screen space. Lastly Sanya Malhotra has justified her role and she looked stunning. Last but least, it's definitely a laugh riot.
