Good Luck Chuck (2007)
Absolutely brutal misogyny
Who the hell, even in the early 2000s, would have enjoyed Good Luck Chuck besides men who are exactly like the pervy, disgusting best friend character in this movie?
I went into it thinking- this is such a relatable concept! Sometimes I feel like everyone I just recently got out of a relationship with finds their soulmate right after me, too!
I kept watching, even after the 10 year old closet r*pe opener, just clinging to the hope that somehow they'd make it better. They didn't- in fact they made it so much worse.
It's like someone made a bet against the writers that they couldn't fit every single stereotype and joke at the expense of women into one movie.
Jokes on that person!! The writers won!!
Together Together (2021)
A rare gem of a rom-com
This is the first movie I saw in theaters since February 2020, and I could not have picked a better movie to see.
Props to Nikole Beckwith for creating one of the most UNIQUE rom-coms I've ever seen- I don't think I've ever seen a movie explore platonic love so flawlessly. It's a trope that, especially regarding male/female friendships, is rarely done well.. if at all. So many groundbreaking little scenes and quotes that just left me in awe.
Ed Helms was fantastic- I think he really found his niche in dramedy, embracing his age and playing such a unique role here. Patti Harrison is someone I've admired through YouTube performances and sketch shows, but seeing her play the lead in a full- length film with such depth- she BLEW me away.
This is a MUST see- I left the theater wanting to go right back in and watch it again.
Little Lunch (2015)
I am 23 years old and I'm so sad they cancelled little lunch
I came across this when it was on Netflix a few years ago and I, fully an adult, binge watched the entire thing in a day. It's the best show and I genuinely enjoyed every single bit of it, still mad it didn't get picked up for another season so I came to let my frustrations and appreciations out in this review thank you
Queer Eye: Groomer Has It (2020)
BLACK GIRL MAGIC
I LOOOOOOVE this woman and I wish her the best of luck in everything she does, this episode made me smile the entire time.
The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart (2020)
None of them can actually sing???
I have never cringed harder at a show. Almost to the point of convulsing. The part where the girl and the guy (I do not care to learn their names) were in the guitar shop and started improv "singing" about the rose ceremony and the girl literally sang, "Every petal of the rose had your name on it.... Christopherrr" I vomited :)
I'm also just convinced that these were the Bachelor/ette contestant rejects who just so happened to have "singer/songwriter" listed as their occupation. There is like one guy that's decently good. There are a few girls who are average. And the rest are.... 😰
Little Fires Everywhere: The Uncanny (2020)
Tiffany Boone.. you're awesome
I don't particularly care for the way this show was adapted from the book, and I also don't typically write reviews, but I was just STUNNED by how well Tiffany Boone portrayed Kerry Washington down to the way her freaking lips moved!! It was so good. That's all I have to say.
Dave: Hype Man (2020)
GaTa is fantastic
This episode was completely unexpected, to be frank; but in all the best ways- GaTa's acting was incredible, and the storyline truly made you feel for the character and understand his struggles. I love the way that it de-stigmatized the idea of mental health in men, and in this episode particularly black men. I was NOT expecting to be so moved by a show about Lil Dicky, keep it up.
