Outer Banks (2020)
A damn rollercoaster
This show is crazy. It is filled to the brim with cliches and repetitions, but just as you start to fume about watching a teenage romance at 33 years old and being a male, and comparing your beer belly to the ungodly attractiveness of the main roles, just as you are about to shut it off never to return, something serious happens and you can't leave. I would rate it a 6, but the smart use of filters in cinematography raises it to a 7. The three points are lost because these kids remind me of a youth that is passing and they are just so damn fit. If I was 10 years younger, this show would probably blow my mind, and now I'm annoyed half of the time.
The Revenant (2015)
Rather dark
Pretty dark and a way too long of a movie. DiCaprio plays magnificently and has some pretty impressive pain recreations. But It kinda missed the mark for me.
The Guilty (2021)
Surprisingly well acted given the reviews.
I really liked this movie. It's dark, sometimes to dramatic, but emotional all the way. However, I can't give it more than 7. Gyllenhaal is an amazing actor. This movie is for a good pass- time but with emotions on steroid.
Freddy Got Fingered (2001)
People are stupid
The comments on this movie reflect the general IQ situation and it confirms: the majority of the people are stupid. People want the plot, like it's darn Bridget Jones Diary. People want the warm and cozy kiss of familiarity. They want the grand battle of good and evil, treacherous plots and betrayals, and the good guys to win. Then they would feel good about themselves, neglecting the fact that they watch movies each night because they can't stand their families. That's why they were caught by suprise by this movie. It stripped everything, left them feeling naked and unprotected. This movie, as you could imagine, is nothing ordinary. It is a genius and refreshing movie, the kind that breaks boundaries and stares into the damned souls of the common folk. Thank you, Mr. Green, for making my teenage years worthwhile.
Scream for Me Sarajevo (2017)
This movie is brilliant!
Congratulations to the team on making such an amazing movie about hope amidst suffering. It was painful to watch the suffering of Bosnian civilians caused by Serb attackers. There is nothing fake in this, you can feel that this gig and that war changed some lives, and they admit to it. When you see Bruce, a UN major and officer, and the rest of the band cry in some point during the movie, you can't but feel the genuinity of the story. Also, to be such an explorer, to come to a city with a raging war going on to play music, is worlds apart from today's understanding of music as a money maker. I really wish to thank Bruce and the gang for displaying such confidence and for providing hope when hope was little. I recommend this movie to anyone that still looks for the good in the world.
Snowden (2016)
High ratings goes to Edward Snowden
I really think this movie should not have been made. Having been from a small country in Europe and not knowing much about Edward Snouden and all the shenanigans he pulled, I decided it was time for me to get to know the whole story. First I saw Snouden, and was amazed, and would give it a straight 9 right away, but then I dug in some research because the story really amazed me, and then found out about Citizenfour, which is the real documentary Laura Poitras filmed in the hotel room when he was uncovering the secrets to her and the journalists. And that movie absolutely blew my mind, so this one went from 9 to 7, and I think that 7 is still influenced by the fact that the movie is based on real events. If it were not, I'm sure it wouldn't have gone over 6. In giving a review for a scripted movie, one must ignore the fact that it is made on real events as much as possible, otherwise the rating are given to the real story, and not the made up parts, and not the acting, effects, music etc.
So this movie is basically just a remake of a documentary movie that went out not more than 2 years ago, which most of the people are not aware of, but with greater marketing budget, and I can understand in some part that they made it while the topic is still hot. Joseph- Gordon Levitt's performance was a masterpiece, although I'm pretty sure his voice in the movie is not his real voice, he sounds like Christian Bale in the Batman.
Monsters (2010)
Definitely not worth anyone's time
This movie is a predictable, uninspired, cliché, peace of trash. Since I have started a monster movie marathon, this one came on some forum as a must see after watching the two in the Cloverfield series. Having watching both Cloverfield movies in the same day and then Super 8 and this one after, I realized that every time I search google for a good movie similar to some other movie, every time I was disappointed and probably won't be doing that again. Super 8 was somewhere in the zone with this one. To be fair, the start was very promising, a dark intro into what I was expecting to be a very serious movie. But the first moment when Scoot Mcairy (what kind of a name is that) I was surprised with his utterly bad portrayal of a cynical photographer. Whitney Able played the role of a rich-daddy's girl who goes on a tourist??? trip to a God-damned infected zone, and when something??, and I really didn't get what, happened, the photographer has to bring daddy's girl back to United States. But get this, they are not currently in the infected zone, they are in a normal city in Mexico, but due to some reason a millionaire daddy and her fiancée who got her a diamond ring worth more than 20k are not able to send a God damn army or a helicopter for her, so the rich dad, who is the employer of the photographer calls him and (having learned his name for the first time) trusts her daughters life in the hands of an unknown asshole employee. Then they go thru Amazon or whatnot and in a weird series of unfortunate events they have to go thru the infected zone by foot, followed by armed Mexicans whom the girl bought as escort by selling her wedding ring. And then, in an clicheist orgasm, at one point in the movie she announces that her hand is now lighter, having sold the ring. At that time I was hating this movie. As all this was unwinding, i realized that I have seen 3/4 of the movie, and that there is absolutely no point in the movie itself. But isn't this movie about aliens, you ask? Absolutely not!! This is a romantic drama with aliens showing just 3-4 times, mostly at night. Then there is the final scene where two squid-like aliens have sex or something after one of them touched the TV at a gas station for some reason. Then the photographer and the girl kissed and the army take them away. Conclusion: Horrible horrible script, absolutely no theme, no point, and no message. For the acting, Scoot (haha) did a terrible job, it just didn't fit in for me, and Whitney did a good job even for a terrible role. As for the graphics, they were okay as far as a cheap CGI movie goes.
