Miami Vice (2006)
tedious mess of a movie...
I just saw this movie on TV last night and was completely disappointed. Reading some of the entries here, I was astonished to see that many people actually seemed to like it!
The look of the film is very amateurish and cheap. It was shot like this on purpose, but nonetheless, it really didn't work for me. The chemistry between Foxx and Farell is nonexistent, and their acting is, let's say, not very convincing.
But the biggest problem is the editing and the script! I haven't seen such a boring movie for a very long time. The transitions seem forced and totally random, they just happen in the middle of a scene. The story keeps dragging along, and you find yourself not caring for a single one of the characters. The sex scenes don't help, either. I couldn't help the feeling that they were just thrown in to give the targeted (predominantly male) audience some t&a. Also, the dialogues were laughable! No wit, no nothing, just boring, clichéd chatter.
The whole movie could have been shot in 90 minutes, which would have helped, but alas, it is 134 minutes long! And sadly, there's not nearly enough action. The few action scenes aren't shot well, and so here we are: A boring film that has poor cinematography, weak acting, a very weak script, laughable dialogues and almost no action. It's kind of fascinating how they could end up with such a terrible product with all the talent involved, but somehow, they did.
My advice: Stay away and watch collateral instead!

Scary Movie 4 (2006)
Lost its touch...
How low can you go? That's the question one has to ask after watching this uninspired and predictable 4th installment of the scary movie franchise.
While it has its moments in the first few minutes, things afterwards go downhill quickly. The jokes aren't funny most of the time, and many tend to cross the line to bleak vulgarity. While watching, I couldn't avoid the impression that the people responsible for this mess ran out of ideas. It certainly isn't the problem of the films they ridicule. War of the Worlds, The Grudge and The Village, among others, surely offer plenty of vantage points, but sadly, they chose to go for the cheap laughs. While I was enjoying part 1 and 3 of the series (part 2 wasn't that great, either), this one isn't worth sitting through. Leslie Nielsen delivers, as usual, but he's one of the rare redeeming factors here.
Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986)
comedy???
I watched this flick some days ago, expecting a rather funny movie, since my TV guide called it a comedy. After I finished watching it, I tried to recall how many times it managed to get me laughing. Very few, I realized. After skipping through some of the reviews on this page, I wondered why so many people thought this movie was funny at all. To me, it was more social satire than comedy; bored, rich and neurotic white people trying to spice up their lives and a bum impersonating everyone they want him to be, helping and using his hosts at the same time.
The script tries hard, but fails to produce many laughs, and the cheesy ending scene destroyed it all, wasting a potentially great cast. If you're interested in rich Beverly Hills residents' problems, you may take a look, but if you're searching for some good laughs, you're going to be very disappointed.
Ocean's Twelve (2004)
awful excuse for a film...
First of all, I really enjoyed Ocean's Eleven, it was a funny and entertaining heist movie with interesting characters and witty dialogues. But what about this sequel? It's a mess, it's boring and not interesting at all: No good story, no action, no nothing, just some famous people enjoying themselves on vacation in Europe. I walked out of the cinema and felt like I just had wasted more than two seemingly endless hours of my life (and I even had to pay for it). Ocean's Twelve is one of the worst sequels of all time, avoid this movie at all costs!!
