Schindler's List (1993)
Best Movie Ever...Period.
This is flat out the best movie I've ever seen. PERIOD. Its the most moving. Most horrific. Most true to life. Most in your face. Required watching. Nothing else comes close. This is the second time I've seen a movie in which nobody exited the theater during the credits. The first was Platoon (my second all time favorite movie). At the end of Platoon the audience sat quietly through the credits before anyone dared to get up and leave. But never before have I seen an entire audience rise in unison and give a standing ovation. And not for a minute or so, but during the entire length of the credits, as if Steven Spielberg himself was standing before us. Then absolute silence fell. Nobody could come up with the right words to say. We were stunned into utter complete and total silence as we stood absorbing what we had just seen, as if a modern day Mona Lisa had just been unveiled before our very eyes. BEST MOVIE EVER...PERIOD. Thank you Steven Spielberg for a job well done.
Tyrant (2014)
Best new show of the season ... PERIOD!!!
Far and away the best new show of the season. I love it and can't get enough. Its full of action, drama, betrayal, plot twist... a story line that's second to none. As one whose traveled throughout the Middle East, I can say that this show portrays their reality about as close as any American Network's managed to get to the real thing. The story line's captivating and as one whose easily distracted, this show holds and keeps my attention. Each episode seems to last a mere five minutes, and then I'm stuck waiting another week for the next. And that, in my book,is the prime mark of a terrific show. The actors are all strong, well rehearsed, and work extremely well together. HIGHLY recommend watching from the beginning to end, each episode in order. Better yet is BINGE watching of this show. I highly recommend recording this to DVR so no episodes are missed. If you've not seen the show, try Bing watching it from the beginning, Best show of the season, regardless of network. I look forward to many more seasons, and hope to see each season come out on DVD shortly after they each end. Thanks FX for giving us quality entertainment!!!
L.A. Hair (2012)
Should be named "The Fake Divas of LA"
One of the worst reality shows on TV. The only real (and best) part of the show was the "Panera Bread" commercial. This show is exploding with more gossip, trash talking, and wanna be's posing as professional (or lack thereof) hair stylist than any other show on TV. From the two sisters running the place to the stomach churning Caucasian gay men wishing they were black women, this show has everything I never wanted to watch on TV. As if the gossip, drama, and trash talking wasn't enough in our real lives, there's this trashy show to fill in the voids... and then some. Last but not least, the people filling the cast are about as phony as can be. They seem to know it too, because they're constantly calling each other "fake", a word that would describe each and everyone on the set. The drama they create between themselves makes one wonder just what type of clients they work on, because there's no way I could stand enduring five minutes of the back stabbing drama created by these very unprofessional hair stylist, never mind having to sit through an entire haircut while listening to this garbage. I gave this 2 points based on companies' willing to advertise their products during this trash.
Return to Amish (2014)
Great show, but Amish church needs some outside prayers...
This is a great show. Mary's heart is so big you can't help but loving her. Chester reluctantly follows Mary, which he should, as she's smarter than she lets on, and has her priorities in the right place. The Amish church leaves a lot to be desired though. Their logic is convoluted and needs a lot of help. For some awful reason, they think 'shunning' is the proper means of getting people to follow their rules. But where in the Bible does it say that ANY church has the right to impose such draconian laws on it's congregation? And shunning only works to drive people away from the Amish, not have people stay with them. The younger generation's tired of the Amish church mistreating people, causing more to leave than ever before. But I really want to know what God it is that tells the church that members of the church, shunned or not, can't attend the wedding of the children God brought into their lives if said children have decided to leave the Amish church. Its not the job of any church to judge us. That job's already been spoken for. If the Pope didn't make the cut, than I doubt the Amish church did either. I hope we get to join with Mary and Chester's family for another season next year. I wish them all the luck in the meantime.
Motor City Masters (2014)
This show lacks style...starting with the judges...
Disappointment is about the only way to describe this show. Starting with Jenn Jennings and her flamboyant hats. She's hardly someone that I would call an expert in car design, and the simple fact that she was an editor for Automobile Magazine doesn't carry any weight with me to qualify her as such. But the truck redesign to turn Silverado's into beach trucks was the final straw. For some unknown reason, she came out with this god awful idea that the trucks needed to have a paneling design element added to the sides. Jenn, why didn't you also demand vinyl roofs for the tops to match the grossly outdated fake wood we used to adorn the sides of our rolling boats with? So two trucks roll out, one green with a funky skeleton painted in blue attached to the sides which was described as a new take on paneling. Sorry guys, but calling something paneling doesn't make it so. The other truck comes out yellow with gray effects on it, plus a small section of paneling below the rear window on each side. The paneling was put there for no other reason that it had to be a design element on the truck. But it looked horrible, as I'm sure the whole truck would've had they actually followed Jennings requirement to put paneling on the truck to begin with. What did work though, was the surf board rack placed on the back with paneling going down both sides of the bed's cover. Also, the front of the truck looked great, with the front bumper raised into the bottom section of the Silverado's grill. So, after the judges pick the green truck as the winner (yeah, the one with no paneling at all), Jenn Jennings tells the designers of the yellow truck that they lost because they didn't put the paneling on the sides of the truck. EXCUSE ME???? Jenn, if you take those funky hats off for a second, your brain may have received enough air to realize that you just slammed a team for not putting enough paneling on the side of a truck, yet had voted the truck with zero paneling on it as the winner. Which is it Jenn? No wonder Automobile Magazine improved drastically after your departure. GM, next time, please pick qualified judges for your show, because Jenn Jennings just doesn't cut it.
Beyond Scared Straight (2011)
Excellent show, but too soft on troubled teens
Beyond Scared Straight is an outstanding show in which troubled teens are sent to jails around the country to see what its going to be like should they find themselves on the inside. Scare tactics are often used, but the effectiveness, while positive on most, falls far short for others. Frankly, I would love to see this program extended in such a manner that these kids REALLY get a taste of jail life. I think by picking these kids up in front of their friends by the local Sheriff's Departments upon exit from school on a Friday afternoon and dropping them back off to school on the following Monday morning just before the start of classes would be far more effective then giving them a half day experience going from one section of the jail to another. Today's kids are some of the most disrespectful ever, and with parents working longer and longer hours while trying to make a living like never before, many of these at risk kids are failing to receive the attention they need during the riskiest time of their lives. Today's kids roll their eyes, look the other way, bad mouth their parents and teachers like never before. They truly need a rude awakening. I think this can only be done in the most severe cases by letting them spend a full weekend in jail, where they should be treated as close to an inmate as possible while protecting them from injury.
