This is one of my favourite books ever. Seeing it finally getting a screen adaption made me very excited.
I try to be as objective as possible on this review, so I would rate it as a 5/10 overall, although subjectively I would rate it more a 2.
Story: While the series takes off decently well, everything starts to fall flat in the second half.
The Tsunami has no explanation why it happens, and the impact also is very meaningless besides a personal drama. In the book it was the start for a new world trying to unite all resources to solve the biggest threat to human kind. The series fails to come even close to such a feeling and impact. It focuses much more on personal drama than on the topic at hand and so the series on it's own does not feel very grounded.
Characters: I did like most characters. They were decently well written. And Charlie as new character was okay. I did like her liaison the most, as he was a good addition. I don't mind the straying from the book in this one.
Presentation: Okay, this is the biggest issue. While the series starts to set a decent tone in the beginning and shows high quality, it feels to get worse as it progresses. The last episodes look sometimes really bad. The camera is always static and some shots are framed or lit really bad. It overall makes the show look much cheaper than it should. Many cheap shows on Netflix look visually more appealing than this.
Conclusion: If you get into it with no expectations I think it's okay. It does sometimes well with setting some excitement. But overall .... the story and presentation together is just not great. It's all just okay.
