The Devil All the Time (2020)
Hard hitting, honest, and difficult to watch at times
But superb acting in three challenging roles by Holland, Pattinson and Skarsgard. Tom had me crying and cheering for him throughout the movie.
Bridgerton (2020)
A real fun and sensory experience.
So many colourful characters and scenery to take in. It comes across as less of a tv series and more of a theatre production, which is BRILLIANT. I also loved the subtle nods to fairy tale characters (think Cinderella, ugly step sisters). A visually beautiful show to watch, but the chemistry between Basset and Daphne is believable, and you really want them to succeed. Suspend any uppity notions of how a "proper" regency era drama should be done, and think more along the lines of the incredibly successful Broadway show, Hamilton. Have fun!
The Great (2020)
Brilliant. Absolutely the most entertaining show I've watched in years.
This series has literally everything: clever humour, as well as somewhat vulgar but appropriately contextual humour, tenderness, drama and intrigue. The characters are incredibly well cast, and have you caring for or hating them with passion.
I get a kick out of the people who complained it wasn't historically accurate - do they not see the wording in the intro next to the asterisk?
So much fun. Can't wait for season 2!
The Gentlemen (2019)
Classic Guy Ritchie
Loved it. It keeps you interested the entire movie between the little twists and being totally invested in the characters. Michelle Dockery's character was a little shallow, but Matthew, Charlie, Hugh, and Colin (especially Colin) knock it out of the park.
Downton Abbey (2019)
Only because I love Downton, it's not a 5
It was a rushed, slightly extended tv episode, only worse, because they had to jam every single character in. Some had almost token lines. I wanted to love it so much, but left feeling disappointed.
Ferdinand (2017)
Sweet and clever at the same time.
Watched it without any children - just my husband and me. There was the sweetness of a timeless story for youngsters, but lots of laugh out loud moments - real laugh out loud moments.
