You Won't Be Alone (2022)
Deep, engaging and meaningful
If you like Terrence Malick movies, you will love this movie.
It's about witchcraft and horror and outcast monsters. But there is so much more explored than just horror and scary situations. This movie will make you look at being human and life in general with new eyes, from a perspective of innocence and appreciation. There is so much beauty explored, from the beauty of basic human relationships to the beauty of nature and the beauty of the dark, scary and unknown aspects of reality.
A lovely movie, well acted with a meaningful and deeply philosophical story. Give it a try.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Not sure what it's about, but I love it
Underneath all the multiverse romping, martial arts and VFX is a very deep story about how the buildup of daily emotional clutter can blind the relationship between kindred souls.
This is the Matrix, but it is also something else deeply interesting.
I didn't know Hollywood could still make movies like this.
The Valet (2022)
A Nice Surprise
Doesn't look like a winner at first glance. I wouldn't have watched this movie if not for some of the comments here recommending it. But I am glad I did! Very warm, funny and interesting, with a lot of attention paid to characters and dialogue. I really enjoyed it and found myself caring for the characters more and more as the movie went on. Give it a try.
The Last Duel (2021)
Slow, Suspenseful And Enjoyable
If you want to watch something that has well-developed characters and plot and will really pull you in, give this a go.
It think the strongest thing about this movie is the storytelling, which is very mature, thoughtful and well-paced. It turns what would otherwise be another medieval action flick into an engrossing study about injustices, conflict and how human beings relate with each other. The acting is amazing and it's nice to see Ben Affleck in an unusual role, which he really nails.
Ridley Scott delivers again.
The Green Knight (2021)
Great Story. Never What You Expect.
This is really a beautiful film about how we think we know whereas we don't really know at all, and how there is a price for everything.
It's about fantasy vs reality. This doesn't mean there is no magic in it. There is a lot of magic and wonder. But it is an adult and mature and practical kind of magic, not childish and absurd "everything will be alright" kind of fantasies. It's also about how human arrogance assumes a certain view of the world but nature's unconventional ways win in the end.
Gawain is a young, foolish and ambitious wannabe knight who accepts a challenge duel from a mysterious being. He thinks he has the upper hand. But as circumstances unfold he is humbled and learns the realities of life, harsh truths and the way of nature.
With a lot of the crap coming out of Hollywood these days, this a refreshing and original perspective. Dev Patel is perfectly cast in this movie and there are wonderful performances all round.
Give this a watch. Highly recommended.
The Racer (2020)
Definitely Worth Watching
This is not just another "sporting underdog wins the victory" movie. In this movie the good guys aren't that good, and we can really empathize with some of their immoral decisions. This is a very mature film with a plot that isn't so black-and-white. I started watching it skeptically, but couldn't stop watching until the very end.
The soundtrack is nice too, and the race sequences really transmit the excitement and energy of fierce athletic competition. Give it a try, it's a great movie.
Secret Society (2021)
Definitely Worth Watching
The acting is good. The production and music is great. The story is compelling and engaging. I really enjoyed watching it, and you should give it a try. Don't be discouraged by the negative comment squad - I'm not sure how many of them actually watched this movie before reviewing.
Lovecraft Country (2020)
Who Are These People!?
Who are these people writing all these negative reviews? Did they even watch this show?
I am so mad because I almost didn't watch this series because of all the negative reviews here. And then I did, and I couldn't stop watching it!
This series is amazing! It brings together elements which you wouldn't believe could exist in the same story and weaves them together masterfully and beautifully. There's magic, technology, mythology, time travel, racial identity... The writing and plot are pure genius.
Look just watch it for yourself. It's not like any other show I have ever seen. In fact I think this is a strong nominee for "best TV show I have ever seen".
