The Hatred (2018)
Zelda Adams delivers
Saw this on Amazon and from the opening scene, I was hooked. I don't know how much this film cost, but it looks like a studio film, but feels like an artistic expression in the most honest of ways. The lead actress I found out was only 13 when this was filmed. Zelda Adams has the acting chops and it was a pleasure to watch her command the lead. I felt her hatred. I am looking forward to seeing more films by these filmmakers.
Mother! (2017)
Borrow from House Of Good And Evil much?
Saw this disjointed mess Friday night. I want to say off the bat, Aronofsky is a better director than writer and as a writer he borrows from many other films. I have to say I saw so many scenes borrowed and repackaged from a little indie film called House Of Good And Evil, which I saw on the SYFY channel a year back. I'm not saying the plots are the same, but I am saying there are at least 10 scenes I found remarkably similar. HGE sticks out as an influence on a few levels, as do several other films, but with that said, this film was a mess and I can see why it only took 5 days to write. I understand the metaphors, but damn, this film went overboard to the point of losing the average audience member. You have to be a huge Aronofsky fan from the beginning to let it slide. I happen to enjoy his other works, which is why I was excited to see this. Art is subjective, so it's fair to look at it in that scope, but this was just an ego piece of art like that of Dali.
Hillbilly Horror Show (2014)
Lulu is Hot!!!
Love this series. Just watched a sneak Peek of Volume 4, not only were the shorts featured very cool, the show's wrap around skits were funny as hell. Bo is a riot and he's the only person that can understand Cephus, who mumbles. The Kim Jong Un skit was so funny, just hope it doesn't upset the North Korean people seeing their leader in a mullet. I love me some Lulu for sure. She cooks up some mean CheeWawa. I love the return of genuine good horror hosts like back in the day. I noticed Volume 1 is now out on DVD, so I'm def going to order my copy. I highly suggest this series to anyone who loves indie horror, redneck humor and hot chicks in skimpy clothes. Perfect recipe for success
House of Good and Evil (2013)
Surprisingly Good Film
Saw this movie last night. I was actually impressed it was pulled off for $150,000 (according to IMDb). Having grown up with 70's horror like The Shining, it was nice to see that feel in a contemporary film like this. Rachel Marie Lewis' performance was outstanding. She carried the movie. Keep an eye on this actress, as I feel she is going to be huge. It was also nice to see Marietta Marich acting again. Haven't seen her since The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 06'. Overall, great movie. I really dug the music score. Very creepy. I think the horror genre really has really lost its way and relies on gore more than story. This film I found, was all about story and a tragic one at that. I recommend this film even if it leaves you sad by the end credits.
