Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Naah. Sorry.
I feel a little whiny but I really did try. I really like space epics but this isn't one I'm afraid. Sure cgi is good, it doesn't feel cheap, but the plot line is, the dialogue is so damned corny and actually makes me embarrassed at times.
Like a lot have said, it is consistently predictable- and sooo much is stolen from far better stories than this one, I'm sorry. A little Star wars here and a little Trekkie refs here- and the inconsistency with which they have tried the whole steampunk vibe- no sorry. Modern weapons and sentient robots- yet they use a hand crank for cannon targeting?? Nope. Sorry- found myself doing some shopping the last half instead just to get through it.
Fallout (2024)
I cannot believe how good I feel as a Fallout fan
Everyone who has ever played any of the games and liked them has their own take on what a show like this should be like I think. As a hardcore Fallout fan myself I had such high expectations of my own that I was certain that my the bar was set too high. But - just wow.
Like so many have said- the props, the detail, the sometimes illogical quest lines, the quirky dialogue- and most of all- that illusive "Fallout feeling" that the game gives you that I thought would be impossible to recreate- it's all there, and then some!! So damned pleased with this. And the cocky Mr Goggins is excellent as Hancock- sorry Cooper 😅. Even Dogmeat makes an appearance.
The scene in ep 7 where Lucy holds up the flag and Inon Zurs EXCELLENT Fallout 4 theme plays is one of THE biggest goosebump moments of my life lol.
I want more, more, MORE!!
Asteroid City (2023)
Became a product of himself...
I enjoy most Wes Anderson movies. I believe the color saturation, the quirkiness, the dry humor, the black sense of humor, and all the irony to be a trademark of a Wes Anderson movie. But in many of his other movies, these elements are the carriers of a real story, of a storyline, and sometimes of a real gripping piece of storytelling. But in this movie, I'm afraid the quirkiness has become the actual storyline in a way that doesn't appeal to me. It's still funny at times, and still great visually- but there is no real story like some others said. No I'm afraid he's become a product of his own quirkiness - not good.
True Detective: Night Country: Part 6 (2024)
Interesting long build-up... into nothing :(
Gotta agree with a lot of people here. Characters ok although not a huge fan of Fosters "one expression" acting style. Supernatural build up, ghosts, paranormal activities, hallucinations, ethnic mysteries and unexplained deaths set in endless darkness and cold all build up to -- an ending filled with disappointment. All was just normal after all. More or less. Threads left unanswered, characters left hanging- it just feels like the script person got tired after awhile and wanted to end it all quicker than planned. The whole "mystery" turns out to be what- a microbe?? And you never even get to know what it was good for? So unsatisfactory.
Nope. No. First season is still a masterpiece- all downhill from there. Really sad.
The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
One of the best portrails of humanity in a long, long time
When my eyes weren't completely fogged over by me crying lika a baby, what I saw was one of the most heartfelt, honest and raw displays of humanity's need for companionship and purpose in ages.
Completely brilliant acting, and a very welcome build of characters so often overlooked in these dystopian shows.
Lovely, true to what life in a world like this would be in my opinion. Fear, loneliness, aggression and more fear - and then some brief moments of joy in small things- like a meal, a song, a painting- or indeed in the bigger things - such as a person.
Sure, I want more human vs fungi action for sure, but these sidesteps make the show stand out and much more memorable than others.
Well done.
The Wonder (2022)
No. Just tries to hard.
Individual performances aside, which are at times very good, the movie and story just consistently tries to be more than they are. Over pretentious and begging for attention almost. Most characters - that could have made it more interesting and sustainable - are just entered- not explained or presented. The feel of the country and the culture that has enormous bearing on the story is very poorly integrated.
Like they think that by just by adding blurred footage, an opiate addiction, spaced out heavy "Chernobyl"-like soundtrack and a play on historical bigotry towards women this will automatically earn it an oscar
Meh.
The Lost City (2022)
Well...
Being a fan of "no need to think too much" comedy and adventure movies I was somewhat looking forward to this.
But really no. Childish comedy with zero new thinking, reverse stereotyping galore and more than anything - damn Daniel Radcliffe is annoying. Sorry but he is. Bad acting and worse dialogue...
I believe the ones who had the most outta this are the actors themselves- you can tell they were having fun making it- but in such an obvious manner that I couldn't even take them not being serious seriously..
A couple of fun scenes does not a movie make - especially if you try to copy Romancing the Stone as blatantly as here.
No. Nope.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
No....
Not good. Music and acting good as always. Story- forced, desperate and disappointing... not doing any of the characters justice or for that matter the actors whom have worked tirelessly for years to build their personas - not satisfying at all. Sorry to say but the whole last season has been a let down...
Game of Thrones: The Winds of Winter (2016)
Really good - so wondering how they're gonna tie this together in the end
spoilers
first - the negative. How the freak are we going to manage waiting for the next season??? really - I DO NOT know. that's it for the negatives.
great episode. The high sept really had it coming. He should have been accused himself for his huge ego and pride - but since it ultimately led to his demise I guess there is a sense of divine justice :).
Does Varys have a twin I wonder? Is he sceeming behind Dani's back covering his bases or is he just covering Dani's ass? How the heck did he get from one place to the other so fast? Movie magic I guess.
The paving for the epic battle between two strong women is laid.
Only thing disrupting this is the super great underlying death- threat hanging above everyone's head - the White walkers.
but I have figured that one out I think. They are actually going to follow Jon and Dani - Ice and Fire. I do not believe the final battle will be on three fronts - the Whities will join the good side with the help of the all new three eyed raven and the new grand meister Sam. I mean - the Lord of Light revives the king in the north - i e - he is also dead just like the White walkers. Poetry wouldn't you say? Coincidence - no. And Dani's dragonfire will melt the Winter king. (or his heart if he has one)
And by the way - the women kick ass (even Cersei although she is a beatch) - and Arya kicks ass the most.
Give me more - give me!!
