Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023)
Surprise (sort of) sequel
Went in expecting another adaptation, safe but comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised by Its approach.
To go back and considering a different way things could've gone can be a tricky line to walk, but the show pulls It off.
The show chooses to go for a path of healing in the way It confronts the issues of the characters, and Lets everyone grow instead of just being dispatched by our protagonists.
It Is a bit weird that Scott Is not as present in the story, but at the end It all comes down to him, sort of a "It's not Scott's story, but a story about Scott" angle.
While also bringing the perspective to a voice to the other side of the relationship, It's not that the comic didn't flesh out Ramona, It did, but always from Scott's point of View, now the show gave her a turn to tell It herself.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 5: The Gunslinger (2019)
Forgettable to say the least
This was kind of interesting, the plot develops in an auto mode and the conflict ends in a disgustingly rushed way, Toro Is bland as bread and the actor doesn't help me buy him.
The thing Is It could've worked if It was better developed and se actually got to know the new characters but It felt like It was written as a filled episode made to complete the 8 episode quota.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 4: Sanctuary (2019)
Underrated episode
This was great I really don't get the negativity.
It has a compelling If unoriginal plot and adds a lot of development to our main character.
I mean it's different from The precios episodes but that doesn't make It bad, in fact that's what a lot of series lack, variety and more episodical adventures, a time for our characters to get into little slices of adventure as a breather from The main plot, this one does that while It brings More layers to our protagonist.
Besides this Is not a Cartoon storyline, as some say, it actually draws inspiration from Seven Samurai, one of the greatest films of all time.
One flaw I could give It to It Is that the plot Is kind of rushed and maybe It could've taken a little More Time, I mean yeah, the conflict gets solved way too fast, but hey at least It does It well (unlike the next episode).
Dragon Ball Z (1996)
Watch The Sub
I love Dragon Ball and DBZ too but what i come to review here is the Funimation English release which is just a very mutilated mediocre and violated version of a Great series. First i'll talk about the acting which is lackluster at best all due to the fact the dub actors at the time we're very unfamiliar with the characters. It goes from lame and cheesy American dub acting to bland American action movie performance, each time they talk is cringe-worthy, say what you want about Goku's original Japanese voice sounding as a woman at least the acting is good and the voice is actually memorable and endearing. Now about the translation, this is the aspect that earned the "Mutilated" adjective i gave to this release, maybe the censorship is not as awful as in other Anime shows in the past, but it's not exempt of Americanisms, starting by trying to make Goku sound like Superman, Cheesing up the dialogue (Hope of the Universe my d@ck)and changing the motivation for some of the characters actions (Goku sparing Vegeta), not to forget the unnecessary monologues during the Cell arc, like the first aspect, it is lame. The last aspect is the music change, taking out the Original Shunsuke Kikuchi's instrumental score and changing it to Faulconer Productions' synthesized score, which represents an obscene exaggeration of the common perception that Dragon Ball is just about muscled super powered guys fighting in a testosterone filled bullshit situation, it's just generic and tasteless, usually the music aspect is just a tertiary aspect, but here turns this series in an amalgam of all the worst aspects of DBZ (y'know the all just strong guys in endlessly dragging battles with no logic or substance and a lot of exaggerated power levels)creating one of the worst reputations this show ever had,so i may be going too far but i'll say this... Faulconer F@cked DBZ!(also Funimation did).
I do not usually let my saltiness take over my reviews but this time my objectivity and my hatred converge and coincide in this. Also i not used to disrespect other people's preferences but here is where i loose it and refuse to believe an intelligent person actually thinks this violation is good or better tan the original.
If you wanna see the real Dragon Ball Z anime, watch the sub and avoid this mess.
Game of Thrones: The Dance of Dragons (2015)
f@cking dragon!!!
this episode's 's ending was unbelievable, and kind of epic, hyping us up for next season, yes i know this is not the last but it still hypes up.
the ending goes like this, the sons of the harpy come to the tournament in the fighting pits to try to kill Daenerys, so a battle happens between the immaculate a d the sons, at the end, the sons have Daenerys and his army surrounded, but then comes Drogon and fights our antagonists, they start to hurt Drogon with Spears so Dany decides to go to her dragon, then she rides on it and flies out of the pits.
This conclusion was a very exciting close to the climatic chapter, the episode has another big but this time heartbreaking moment... Shireen dies incinerated by Melissandre, this was u expected seeing it didn't happened in the book, but it still gets you and makes you feel a lump in the throat.
A very well done episode with great moments and an epic closing to a chapter
The Lord of the Rings (1978)
a great adaptation for a great novel
what i admire is how close to the book was being just two hour long, the scenes from the book are adapted very well using the most important lines from the novel and holding true to the story's atmosphere (in a childish way but very true to the novel.
But yes, it is very flawed i am not going to lie, sometimes it feels rushed, but just few times, and the character are sometimes over the top (again, only few times)some characters are misrepresented, but only in appearance because their personalities are similar to those of Tolkien's writing (except Sam, Sam's character was horribly done)examples are: Aragorn, Boromir, Gimli (But to be fair that was the standard dwarf of those times), Elrond, Saruman (again not for being with a color, but being only red, in the book, he transformed into Saruman of many colors, but here it looks like Saruman the red), between others. other problem is the ending, the movie's ending is the end of half of the story, this was meant to be two movies, but because of the box office failure the sequel was never Greenlighted (saddly) and the movie is only book and a half, leaving many loose ends.
but to the positive part, the movie keeps you entertained and it holds up well to tell such a big story as lord of the rings.
with the bad motion capture animation i have no problem because it takes you to great battle sequences.
if you compare it to Peter Jackson's epic trilogy, Jackson's version wins, but this movie doesn't fall shorter having a good opponent to the epic trilogy.
In conclusion, this movie is well passed, suspenseful, exciting, and even epic in it's own way.
Les Misérables (1998)
why didn't they showed the original book ending
again,Les Miserables was a huge book, and it is very hard to adapt, and i get it, things have to be changed, but, 30 minutes wouldn't have hurt it,and with that i mean, it would have been more emotive show Jean Valjean's death, not just end it with Javert's suicide.
Well, at the end this movie it's a great movie that, if it is not close to the story events, at the end it is to the novel's atmosphere.
The characters are played really well, Geoffrey Rush Kills it as Javert, playing him perfectly, Liam Neeson was Great as Valjean, Claire Danes did a great addition to Cosette's Character, making her stronger.
The script is well articulated, The photography is beautiful and the acting is terrific.
this is one of the best adaptations of Victor Hugo's Novel.
