Furious 6 (2013)

great action for car lovers, weak story for movie lovers

I didn't expect much better to be honest. This is the sixth 'Fast & Furious', I mean how much more can be said about a gang a villains who run around in fast cars? I enjoyed some of the visual and action, especially around central London but as far as the story and acting goes I feel it was rather weak. It's a story which has been told over and over again, the ex-villain (played by Vin Diesel) who corroborates with the police (played by Dwayne Johnson). There's nothing wrong with the plot itself, but when a movie is over two hours long you need to find a way of keeping it interesting.

If you're a fan of this series then of course you should watch it, otherwise I would say don't bother.

This Is the End (2013)

Disappointing, to say the least

I expected much better from names like Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen. I didn't really care for the constant use of foul language, which is obviously why its been rated R. In my opinion there was no structure to the script and I'm inclined to believe that a lot has been improvised, and that the producers were banking on the various cameos to increase the movie's popularity.

I don't remember a single moment of this movie that was actually funny, ridiculous yes but far from good humour.

It's a real shame because I was looking forward to watching it. All I can say is that as a comedy it didn't work for me.

The Wolverine (2013)

Brilliant movie!

I think this Wolverine meets all the expectations of a Hollywood action packed movie. Stunning visuals and great fight scenes all throughout, coupled with a gripping story.

Director James Mangold really managed to bring this comic book character and story to life, and Hugh Jackman was absolutely brilliant.

In this film the Wolverine is verging on becoming mortal (as the trailer suggests, so this is NOT a spoiler) so Jackman is not the usual invincible superhero we're used to seeing. This makes the story really interesting and keeps you constantly on edge. Let's face it, no one likes to see the good guy die!

Overall this has got to be one the best action movies I've watched this year.

We're the Millers (2013)

Very entertaining and a good laugh

As far as comedies go this is certainly one of the best I've watched over the last few months. It is an interesting combination of characters which work really well together. You've got the drug dealer, the geek, the stripper and the runaway (who in my opinion is more of a rebel than anything else).

The story itself isn't the strongest element of this movie, however in my opinion Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston and Will Poulter all deliver a really great performance.

As funny as Ed Helms is in 'The Hangover' I feel the script didn't really allow for his character to emerge as much.

Overall I really enjoyed watching this movie and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good laugh.

Adormidera (2013)

Not quite a Hollywood epic, but worth watching.

If one had to be realistic about the expectations of a historical movie made on a low budget, this one certainly deserves some credit. Although in my opinion it falls short in terms of story line and direction, the attention to detail doesn't go unnoticed.

Nevertheless, I found the story rather enjoyable, and particularly in the second half of the movie it became more engaging. Although a large part of the supporting cast seems to be made up of first time actors (judging by their IMDb credits) the remarkable performance by the lead actor, as well as his charm undoubtedly contribute to the movie's visual entertainment. The sword-fighting was also good, especially towards the end.

Overall, this movie is not a blockbuster but worth watching.
