The Holdovers (2023)
Ok - Not a Comedy
I went into this movie expecting a comedy, and while I did have a few laughs, it was actually very depressing. There was nothing funny about the experiences of the characters, and the whole movie felt pretty mediocre to me. I started falling asleep at the final 20 minutes out of pure boredom. All actors were great in their roles, and I liked the setting and time period. I would not watch again, nor do I care what happened in the last 20 minutes.
The teen was on antidepressants. I'm no expert, but seemed a bit far fetched for early 70's. He visits his father in the psych ward, and the scene is so depressing and awful.
The Menu (2022)
Unique
I rarely watch movies. I don't enjoy much of what's been coming out the past five years or so. I don't give this film a 7 lightly. I was desperate to stay awake for a couple of hours and my husband chose this film for us. Needless to say, it kept me awake. I'm surprised that so many people didn't like it. Sure, the premise is ridiculous and the characters are dumb at times, but it was quite entertaining. My husband asked for s'mores at the end of the film, whereas I don't think I could enjoy a smore ever again after watching this. It did give me nightmares, as well. I do appreciate the uniqueness of this film.
The Lake (2022)
Quite awful
For whatever reason I associated Amazon with quality content. Not anymore. The premise had potential. Some of the characters are even likeable. But the majority of the episode is just shoving nonstop garbage down your throat. I agree with the review that stated this show is not G-rated. Can't believe this is where we have landed with entertainment.
Little Fish (2020)
Not for me
Jack O'Connell is one of my favorite actors, so I was really looking forward to watching this. I can't recommend it. There are times in my life where I have enjoyed sad movies, but this one felt like pure hell the entire time I was watching it. I really wanted to turn it off ten minutes in, but I was watching with a friend, and she wanted to stick it out. The awfulness of it is still affecting me. I never write reviews, but if I can save at least one person's soul from experiencing this, I have to try.
