Mary Christmas (2002)
A Christmas Movie with Heart
Excellent acting by John Schneider (Dukes of Hazard County & Smallville), Cynthia Gibb, and nine year old Jenna Boyd, who played Schneider's nine year old daughter, Felice Wallace, who wrote a letter to Santa Claus asking for a mommy. The letter ended up on the desk of Gibb's Mary Maloney, a TV reporter who was goaded into filming Felice and her family's Christmas. Tom Bosley did an excellent portrayal of a mysterious temporary governor, i.e., a male nanny, for Felice. Renee Ridgeley of "The Young And The Restless," portrayed the woman in Schneider's life whom Felice felt was intrusive in their relationship. My wife and I were spellbound watching this movie with a heart. This movie crosses age groups and I would recommend it to anyone wanting good clean entertainment. This review was of the November 26, 2005 showing recorded from PAX television and viewed several days later.
What Matters Most (2001)
A movie I identified with
I taped this movie from Lifetime and my wife and I watched this movie together on December 19, 2005. It was good to see two good actors we were familiar with, Chad Allen and Marshall Teague giving believable performances to difficult parts. As a former counselor in one of my jobs prior to retirement, I met young people in love with parents of one or both not approving. My wife's parents did not approve of me at first. With this background we could feel the emotions of the two young people in love. The accident, the period of recovery, all the way to the conclusion kept us both glued to the TV set until the end although we felt some of it toward the end was contrived but we enjoyed the ending. We recommend the movie to anyone whose hearts go out to others in time of need.
I'll Be Seeing You (2004)
A Convoluted Mystery
I've read several of Mary Higgins Clark's books and seen several movies. Of the two movies on TV the same week, I liked "Pretend You Don't See Her" as the better of the two movies. Nevertheless I liked this one. I am not so particular about the technical details and supposed flaws in movies as others are because if the plot is decent and the story flow moves, I can adjust to small annoyances. I feel like there was a plot and a sub plot in which danger came from two directions. I thought the acting was okay and was glad to see Margot Kidder in the movie. It is good that in spite of her problems she is still able to act. Some may not have thought that two half sisters could look like twins but I and one of my first cousins seemed to be almost identical so much that when he died, many relatives did a double take. So to me for half sisters to be identical was realistic. If the comments between the young potential lovers seemed strange, it is in real life. There were a few twists and turns and I was a little surprised at the ending but it turned out okay. This review was of the PAX presentation on cable January 31, 2005.
