Road House (2024)
One too many characters
Conor McGregor as an actor, and his character, add zero to this film. I get he was a great marketing tool for them.. but remove his character from the film and NOTHING changes besides Dalton being a little less stabbed at the end.
It's like they needed the main bad guy to be able to fight... but instead they had a cry baby, so had some random rock up to fill the fight void.
Would have liked to have seen a little more of Daltons back story... the relationship with his friend prior to the fight, how and why things changed, his fall into depression, losing sponsors, getting dropped from the UFC etc.
Lift (2024)
I didn't expect to like this as much as I did...
Honestly, I think this is one of Kevin Harts strongest films.
Is it God Father 2 or Shawshank? No... but it's not trying to be.
This film did two things for me, and it did them well.
1: It was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. Where I didn't have to think, or even worry that I could guess the entire plot to the film immediately... because it was just fun.
2: Time and time again I'd say to myself "I haven't seen that guy in anything for ages!... how'd they swing that!?"..
- Jean Reno, what an absolute treat!
- Vincent D'Onofrio, always a pleasure
- Sam Worthington... good for him.
Also, at a time where VFX has been extremely hit and miss... the work in this film was incredible... unexpectedly so. Great work Andy Walker and the team.
Expend4bles (2023)
Might as well be watching an early 2000s video game cut scene.
At the time of writing this I'm only 1/2 way through the film, but see more value writing this then paying attention to this disaster.
The special affects/ graphics are so bad it completely pull you out of the film. It's nearly unwatchable. Have we learned nothing from corridor digital over the years...
Might as well be watching an early 2000s video game cut scene.. actually, that may be giving this film too much credit.
When Randy Couture is one of the better actors in the film, you know there's an issue.
Poor script
Poor direction
Poor execution
Clearly a studio just trying to make money off the success of a great franchise... I hope they lost millions.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch (2021)
One too many characters
Would be WAY better without the little girl.
Also! How does she have an NZ accent when she grew up with the cloners?
Hannibal (2013)
A tale of 3
Season 1 - 10/10
Season 2 - 6.5/10
Season 3 - 3.5/10
The Ranch (2016)
Not what I expected
Surprisingly hits you right in the feels all too often.
A Star Is Born (2018)
Lost Connection
Like many of the reviewers on her I went into the film having heard amazing things.. in fact, one of the people I went to view the film with had loved it so much the first time that she couldn't wait to get in round two... and yeah, it wasn't a terrible film.
The camera work was amazing, score insane! I just did not in any capacity believe the love between the two title characters, which is probably what lead me to not connect with the majority of the rest of the film.
I would have loved to have seen a greater arc for the brother... finding something to say, and was hoping for a role reversal at the end of the film which mirrored the beginning.
3 out of the other 4 people I saw the film with did leave the cinema in tears, and everyone had good things to say.. just missed it with me.
