Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024)
Brilliant
"Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya" is a delightful romantic comedy that charms audiences with its unique premise and stellar performances. Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon shine as the lead pair, with Kriti's portrayal of a human-like AI robot being particularly commendable. The film's storyline, revolving around Shahid unknowingly falling in love with Kriti's robotic character, takes a comic turn, keeping viewers entertained throughout.
One of the highlights of the movie is its music, which adds depth and emotion to the narrative. The songs are not only a big hit but also truly enjoyable, enhancing the overall experience.
With its perfect blend of romance and comedy, "Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya" is an ideal choice for couples celebrating Valentine's Day or families seeking a lighthearted break. It deserves a solid 4/5 or 8/10 stars for its engaging story, fantastic performances, and memorable music.
Fighter (2024)
Enjoyable
"Fighter" delivers a thrilling cinematic experience with its impressive aerial action sequences, earning it a well-deserved spot on the big screen. The CGI, VFX, and technical aspects are meticulously crafted, enhancing the realism of the adrenaline-pumping scenes.
Hrithik Roshan takes center stage, dominating the film with his charismatic performance. However, the supporting cast, including Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, gets limited opportunities to shine.
The movie's music stands out, featuring beautiful beats that complement the high-octane action. On the downside, the dialogues fall short, sounding cheap and disconnected from the characters portrayed.
Regrettably, the story fails to match the overall quality of the film. It leans on a clichéd jingoistic narrative, revolving around Pakistan and Muslim characters, ultimately leaving the audience with a disappointing storyline.
Despite its flaws, "Fighter" is a worthwhile one-time theatrical watch, scoring 3.5/5 or 7/10 stars for its gripping action and cinematic elements.
Animal (2023)
Disappointing
"Animal," directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, offers a captivating experience with impressive background music, memorable songs, and technical finesse. However, the film stumbles in terms of story strength and screenplay execution, featuring temporal shifts that lack coherence and fail to enhance the narrative.
While the first half engages with its fast pace, the second half unnecessarily prolongs the story, leaving the film feeling overly lengthy and lacking character development, especially with Ranbir Kapoor's character. His abrupt temporal shifts lack clear reasoning, contributing to a disjointed narrative.
Despite a touching emotional scene between Anil Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor towards the end, it arrives too late, leaving the audience fatigued and eager for closure. The credit scenes, though appealing, add to the film's unnecessary length.
Ranbir Kapoor's character, portrayed as a hero, raises concerns due to his criminal actions, lack of respect for others, blatant misogyny, and attitude problems. The film's attempt to celebrate such a character is problematic, as it glorifies a man-child who in reality needs therapy.
Actress Rashmika Mandanna's performance is very poor, making her unfit for the role. She was struggling to deliver convincing dialogue and lacked depth in her portrayal.
It's disheartening to witness Bollywood failing with films like "Animal." The industry has the potential for impactful cinema but seems to fall for subpar narratives. They should strive for better storytelling and more nuanced character portrayals and should avoid the pitfalls of glorifying problematic characters for the sake of entertainment.
Tiger 3 (2023)
One Time Watch
Tiger 3 treads familiar ground but stumbles in comparison to its predecessors, warranting a modest 5-star rating out of 10. While it plays its part in developing the YRF Spy Universe, as a standalone, it's just okay and could easily be skipped.
The film's Achilles' heel lies in its repetitive storyline and lacklustre dialogue. Salman Khan's usual charm is conspicuously absent, failing to infuse the movie with the magic seen in earlier instalments.
Despite these drawbacks, Emraan Hashmi impresses as the main enemy, though the film could have tapped more into his potential. On a positive note, Katrina Kaif delivers a commendable performance with riveting action sequences and a more substantial role, injecting some vitality into the overall experience.
In the realm of the Tiger franchise, this third instalment falls short, making it a lukewarm addition to the series. While it might be worth a single watch for fans of the genre, it lacks the spark to make it a memorable cinematic experience.
Jawan (2023)
Fantastic
"Jawan" starring the iconic actor Shahrukh Khan is nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece. This film seamlessly blends action, social relevance, and a fast-paced narrative to create a near-perfect product. In a time when political atmospheres are tense, "Jawan" fearlessly delivers a crucial message to its viewers.
The movie's action sequences are a treat for adrenaline junkies, leaving the audience craving for more with every thrilling moment. Shahrukh Khan and the entire cast deliver a stellar performance, immersing us into the story.
The music in "Jawan" is a standout feature, with the musician crafting a memorable soundtrack that enhances every scene. The background music adds depth and excitement to the overall experience.
"Jawan" is a must-watch for all moviegoers, and if you're a Shahrukh Khan fan, it undoubtedly warrants a second viewing in theaters. This film not only entertains but also enlightens, making it a truly impactful cinematic gem.
Barbie (2023)
Entertaining
The Barbie movie brilliantly brings to life the magical universe of Mattel's iconic Barbie dolls, with Margot Robbie's exceptional portrayal of Barbie herself at the forefront. Robbie's performance is truly remarkable, capturing the essence of the beloved character with grace and charm. Her embodiment of Barbie's timeless appeal and elegance goes beyond mere physical resemblance.
Robbie effortlessly transitions between the enchanting Barbieland and the real world, showcasing her versatility as an actress. As she navigates the fantastical landscapes of Barbieland or adjusts to the complexities of the real world, Robbie's portrayal remains captivating and genuine.
Supported by Ryan Gosling's charismatic depiction of Ken, the film creates a delightful blend of humor, heart, and subtle social commentary. The visuals are a visual treat, capturing the vibrant beauty of Barbieland and the dynamic real-world settings.
Furthermore, the movie subtly touches on various themes, adding depth to the narrative and making it not only entertaining but also thought-provoking.
While some viewers might have hoped for a deeper exploration of the dynamics within the Mattel company, the overall experience remains highly enjoyable. The Barbie movie, led by Margot Robbie's outstanding performance, serves as a wonderful celebration of the iconic doll and the values she embodies. It's a must-watch that reignites our fascination with Barbie and leaves us inspired by the boundless possibilities she represents.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023)
Entertaining
"Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani" is a vibrant and engaging cinematic experience that weaves together the captivating tales of two contrasting characters. Ranveer Singh's portrayal of Rocky, a flamboyant and wealthy Punjabi Delhiite, is an absolute delight. His unique blend of eccentricity and charm brings Rocky to life, creating a character that is both entertaining and endearing.
In sharp contrast, Alia Bhatt's Rani shines as a well-educated and strong-willed journalist. Her performance showcases her remarkable acting prowess, ensuring that her presence remains captivating even amidst Rocky's larger-than-life persona. The on-screen chemistry between Singh and Bhatt is electrifying, driving the heartwarming and hilarious moments that unfold.
Karan Johar's direction shines as he skillfully navigates the blend of entertainment, drama, romance, and humor. The picturesque scenes, lavish sets, and stylish aesthetics add to the film's visual allure, creating a cinematic treat for the eyes. While the focus does shift slightly in the second half to accommodate multiple characters, the film's overall narrative remains engaging.
The dialogues are sharp and witty, delivering moments of laughter and amusement. The music, although perhaps not fully appreciated until seen within the film's context, contributes beautifully to the storytelling.
"Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani" is a testament to the director's artistry, the actors' talent, and the seamless fusion of elements that make Bollywood cinema truly magical. It's a movie that offers a blend of emotions and entertainment, making it a definite must-watch, and perhaps even worthy of a second viewing.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Decently Entertaining
Mission Impossible's Dead Reckoning Part One brings back the iconic Tom Cruise as the fearless Ethan Hunt, joined by an exceptional ensemble cast including Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and a host of other talented actors. While Tom Cruise's performance continues to be exemplary, the film's story falls short of its potential. It delves into a familiar topic that has been explored countless times before, leaving us yearning for something fresh and unpredictable to reignite the franchise's excitement.
Amidst the film's shortcomings, one cannot overlook the brilliantly executed action scenes that do make an impact. While there are fewer action sequences compared to the previous instalment, the ones present leave us on the edge of our seats, especially the heart-pounding car chase that adds an adrenaline rush to the viewing experience.
However, not all aspects of the film deliver on their promise. The scenes set in Venice, which held great promise, fail to reach their full potential and could have been more thrilling and engaging. Nevertheless, the film manages to retain its allure, thanks to the unwavering charisma of Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt.
One of the film's most significant drawbacks is its excessive length, as it could have benefitted from tighter editing to maintain a more captivating pace and keep the audience fully invested in the unfolding events.
In conclusion, Mission Impossible's Dead Reckoning Part One offers a mix of highs and lows. Tom Cruise's stellar performance and some standout action scenes add excitement and spectacle to the film, but the repetitive storyline and lack of fresh ideas dampen its overall impact. Despite its flaws, fans of the franchise will likely find enough enjoyment to appreciate the latest instalment.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Brilliant
"Oppenheimer," directed by the brilliant Christopher Nolan, is a cinematic masterpiece that delves into the intriguing story behind the creation of the atomic bomb during the Manhattan Project. With a stellar cast led by the remarkable Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, supported by the charismatic Robert Downey Jr. And the talented Emily Blunt, the film takes audiences on an emotional and intellectual rollercoaster.
The film's meticulous attention to detail in aging up the actors adds authenticity and depth to the narrative, giving the audience a genuine sense of the passage of time during this crucial period in history. The make-up work is so convincing that it further immerses viewers into the characters' world, making their performances even more compelling.
Christopher Nolan's masterful direction reaches its pinnacle during the depiction of the atomic bomb testing. With stunning visuals and awe-inspiring effects, the explosion sequence is an unforgettable cinematic experience, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.
"Oppenheimer" is a gripping and intellectually stimulating film that successfully balances historical accuracy, top-notch acting, and mesmerizing visuals. Christopher Nolan's prowess as a director and storyteller is evident throughout, making this film a must-watch for anyone who appreciates cinematic brilliance. With its captivating performances, compelling narrative, and remarkable depiction of history, "Oppenheimer" undoubtedly deserves 9 out of 10-star rating.
Pathaan (2023)
Entertaining
Pathaan is a good action movie that can be enjoyed on the big screen with great sound for the best viewing experience. The movie has some excellent features, such as fantastic locations and good music that has been well-filmed, making it an enjoyable watch. The movie is worth a 4 out of 5 stars rating.
The storyline of the movie is decent, but not very thrilling. However, the performances of the lead actors, Shahrukh, Deepika, and John, are very good, with Deepika and John delivering standout performances. Supporting actors Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana also deliver good performances.
Shahrukh Khan looks great on-screen, and it's a delight to watch him after a break of more than three years. He shines in the movie, and every scene of his is just too good to watch. The movie's pace goes slow at some points but then picks up, making it an enjoyable watch.
The movie's action scenes, especially those in Dubai, needed more work, as they weren't a standout and required better graphics and choreography. However, the entry of Salman Khan is a most enjoyable part of the movie, which has been very well blended in the story.
In conclusion, Pathaan is a good action movie with some excellent features that can be enjoyed on the big screen with great sound. The music is great, and with its video, it's an enjoyable experience. Despite the Dubai scenes not being a standout and needing more work, the movie is still worth watching for the performances of its lead and supporting actors and its enjoyable storyline.
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023)
One Time Watch
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is an average movie with its strengths and weaknesses. The first half of the movie may not engage the audience as it appears slow with poor dialogue delivery, and the supporting actors fail to deliver good performances except for Dimple Kapadia. However, the lead actors, Ranbir and Shraddha, individually look good and share a decent on-screen chemistry.
On the positive side, the movie's music is excellent, entertaining, and well-filmed, adding value to the overall viewing experience. The second half of the movie is funny, with an unexpected storyline that keeps the audience engaged. It's a one-time watch movie, and it can be enjoyed on a streaming service without the need to visit a theatre.
Overall, if you are in the mood for a light-hearted comedy with good music, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar could be worth watching. However, it may not be worth visiting a theatre for unless you are really bored.
The Newsroom (2012)
Entertaining
Newsroom is a highly engaging and thought-provoking TV show that offers a unique and fascinating perspective on journalism. The show delves deep into the behind-the-scenes workings of news media, focusing on the current events of the time it was shot. The standout performances by the entire cast, especially Emily Mortimer's portrayal of MacKenzie McHale, make this series a must-watch.
While the show's pacing is generally good, there are times when it slows down, and some scenes could have been executed better. Although the first season of Newsroom was exceptional, there could have been more seasons to explore the show's themes in greater detail. The third season, in particular, didn't end well in my opinion, and the digital takeover could have been shown better, along with how it blends with traditional journalism.
Despite this, Newsroom remains a masterfully crafted show that offers a compelling and entertaining look at the news media. The show's ability to blend current events with drama is exceptional, and it provides viewers with a fascinating glimpse into the world of journalism. Emily Mortimer's performance as MacKenzie McHale is a standout, but the entire cast delivers memorable performances that leave a lasting impression.
Overall, if you're looking for a well-made and thought-provoking show that explores the complexities of journalism, Newsroom is worth watching. Despite its flaws, the show provides a fascinating and insightful look at the news media, and the outstanding performances by the cast make it an enjoyable watch.
Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022)
Entertaining
A flawless entertaining Bollywood film for a fun family outing is what this movie is after a long time. The storyline is designed to keep the audience glued to the screen all while it makes you laugh, makes you feel emotions, and love everyone in this family drama.
The music is enjoyable and mesmerizing to watch on the big screen. The best element of this film is its pace which is fast and doesn't for a second loses its charm all while it maintains its emotional depth.
Also, this is the movie where Kiara Advani shines as an actor, storyline presents a perfect opportunity for her to showcase her acting talent. And if there's anyone this movie cannot be complete with then it's Anil Kapoor. Anil Kapoor owns this film and it's his film and he glows throughout. The man keeps you engaged throughout the journey.
It's a perfectly made film that's meant to be experienced on the big screen.
Laal Singh Chaddha (2022)
Satisfactory
Who thought that there'd be a Bollywood version of Forrest Gump many many years after the original came out and won awards and hearts? Nevertheless, we have an adaptation that after several modifications, is made to suit our country's audience which luckily keeps the original story intact.
We can see this movie through Forrest Gump's lens or can see it as a standalone story for there still are a huge number of people who haven't seen the original. According to me, irrespective of the way we see Laal Singh Chaddha, the movie is indeed likable and makes you smile for its innocence and beauty.
The storyline is good, it's intriguing enough for the audience to feel curious about how it'll evolve further but that's in the first half where the story goes fast and is fun to watch. In the second half, sadly it feels to have lost its momentum and feels a little stretched which could've easily been worked upon.
The acting by all the actors present is fair, the movie is primarily dependent on Aamir Khan who does a satisfactory job but the graphics that are used for making him look young feel extremely unsatisfactory. The technology somehow works for Kareena Kapoor who delivers a very good performance but unfortunately just doesn't work for Aamir making the scenes look animated at times. The actor only looks natural when his character grows up, and his age is closer to Aamir's real age. This technique of age reduction hurts the experience.
There are few changes in the storyline compared to the original. The first is of Kareena but her character and performance make up to the original but the unpredictable change of story in Muhammad's character feels completely unnecessary and foolish. It doesn't serve any purpose and should've better not been touched.
Anyway, apart from a few hiccups as mentioned above, the storyline is quite adorable and the chemistry between Aamir and Kareena does a fine job. It's a decent movie, a kind of movie that can be seen on the big screen but can be skipped for a TV release as well.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Meant to be Watched on the Big Screen
I truly got comfortable watching movies and TV shows in the comfort of my home after the pandemic struck but when I first saw the new trailer of Top Gun Maverick which was released a few months ago I knew this was something that was meant to be watched and experienced on the big screen only.
I stepped inside a movie theatre after more than two years because I just couldn't resist Pete Maverick. I knew what to expect from the movie, I knew it'll be incredible and I was 100% correct. The movie Top Gun Maverick is not a movie, it's an experience that can be attained only on the big screen.
The awesomeness of fighter planes and the enthralling adrenaline rush a pilot feels while flying these powerful inventions is superbly felt watching the movie. The storyline is not particularly different, or great, it's a simple story with a simple to comprehend mission but extremely complicated to execute which is what makes the whole movie standout. The movie delivers magic and if it took decades to come out with this second instalment, after seeing how good it is, the wait is justified.
I would've said this movie is a must-watch but that will be an understatement. It should be watched on the big screen and not once but more than once. Go hit the theatres and experience Maverick!
Coolie No.1 (2020)
Foolish
I wonder what the filmmakers were imagining when they agreed on to make this film and I wonder what was wrong with me that I watched this movie. The movie was as anticipated stupid, it was understood that there won't be any reasoning. It was supposed to be funny and foolish but unfortunately, it only became the latter.
I don't know whether it's because of the pandemic I couldn't laugh or the movie didn't have one single event where I felt the scene was humorous, it was instead always annoying.
I hadn't watched any of Sara's movie and after watching this don't even want to because the performance was so awful. The same goes for Varun who's talented but played the role of a stupid again and seemed more ridiculous than before.
The movie doesn't make sense, doesn't make you chuckle, the music is alright and that's it, overall the movie neither should've been made and nor should it have been watched.
AK vs AK (2020)
Crazy
The first time I saw the trailer of this movie by Netflix which has the talented Anil and Anurag together I knew it was going to be a bang and the movie was as anticipated mind-blowing. It isn't your regular movie and that'll be obvious from the trailer itself, the movie is extremely refreshing, distinct and brilliantly made for which the entire team is entitled to applause. Now if we talk about the cast, it was thoughtful, I think Anurag was great but still could've filled in more, nothing substantial but could've been more but Anil Kapoor was just jhakaas, too promising. It's for everyone looking out for an unusual movie and is exhausted of all the typical stuff that's on TV these days.
Defending Jacob (2020)
Interesting
I wished to watch this show since I first saw its trailer on YouTube and believe me when I say it doesn't disappoint. The show begins with an intense theme which is carried throughout the show and makes it heavy, with their music, serious acting performance and story. I don't think it's a binge-watch sort of a show as it requires its time to acknowledge the storyline.
The execution by everyone is marvellous, the story keeps on getting intriguing episode by episode and for a moment you're taken aback in the last episode but then it whacks back. The culmination was so unpredictable and leaves you in state of surprise. It's a good show, must-watch if you're into serious thrillers and of course if a fan of Chris Evans.
Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020)
Outstanding
I was sceptical about all the praises which this show was earning but when I tried it myself, I approve of all the terrific reviews it has received. The show is brilliantly made, the team has done an admirable job and the casting is just so nice. All the actors have delivered an incredible and persuasive performance which is entitled to applause.
The background music, the dialogues, the unsaid words which arise on the screen, all the nuances when beautifully clubbed together brings about this masterpiece which leaves you in awe, out of words and forces you think about everything that transpired. It's a very well made show and deserves to be seen, particularly by those who have lived the late 80s and 90s period.
Suits (2011)
Entertaining
I'll be honest this show got me hooked from the very first episode and it kept me attached to it till the last one. If there's one thing which describes this show accurately then that's entertainment because that's what it does throughout the show. There are numerous hits and misses as well but it has always managed to get things in balance again. The whole cast has done a really decent job and makes the viewer pick their favourite one. One thing which they've done pretty satisfactorily is that although the show has primarily swirled around the character of Harvey, it didn't fail to uncover other character's personalities. In the end, the audience knows all of them pretty nicely and feels for them. The show ended on a pleasant note and I've absolutely no complaints regarding it. Thank-you Suits family.
Contagion (2011)
Intriguing
It's an old movie but watching this movie in 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic feels something entirely else. The movie gives chills in today's time but anyway, the movie is pretty decent although there could've been a much better portrayal of how the virus actually came to be, how it unravelled and several other things. The pace was fast and it felt as if it's not giving much time to absorb and comprehend the thing and that's what in my viewpoint could've been better. Anyway, an intriguing watch particularly in the current times.
Forrest Gump (1994)
Inspiring
I'm a fan of simplistic movies which convey a sweet meaning in the most simplistic technique and this movie flawlessly fits this particular classification. The character Forrest, played by Tom Hanks makes you fall in love with his character with his outstandingly persuasive performance. It's a movie which is subtle in nature but goes on to communicate positivity to the viewers through numerous instances and leaves you in awe and encouraged.
The story is beautiful, one cannot clearly plan his/her life like a pathway, we all may have the destiny to reach but we're all also hovering in the air like a feather that will go from all kinds of highs and lows and life is about experiencing all of them and moving on. It's a beautiful movie and certainly a must-watch.
The Plot Against America (2020)
A Masterpiece
It's a small mini-series with an enormous impact and perfectly matches the saying that nice things come in tiny packets. It's an underrated show and a lot of people haven't learned about it yet and that's maybe because of the topic it examines.
It's set in an alternate history which could've had a lasting consequence on years to come had it turned out that way. The show is impressive in its filmmaking, looks excitingly decent to watch in terms of its visuals. The story is incredibly intense and although it starts slow and though the pilot episode seemed relatively ordinary trust me the show accumulates to something else. The narration gets the audience glued and the viewer can feel the anxiety and insecurity of what the family goes through in their difficult times.
It's set in an alternate history but unfortunately feels like a narration of what's transpiring today in multiple parts of the world, from East to West there are communities that are being targeted for complete political objectives. The awful truth which many people ignore is that how narrow-minded people get in their superficial thinking they cannot think beyond their illusionary benefits.
I hope this show is taken a message to society rather than just being another show. It convincingly conveys a powerful performance which no doubt deserves acknowledgement and recognition.
El hoyo (2019)
It's Thought-provoking
I couldn't resist myself after watching its trailer, the movie isn't your regular movie, it's an unusual kind of a thriller movie with a deep level of messages about the society we live in which gets conveyed in every scene which is open to interpretation as one likes and there's no boundary to the same. I think the whole idea of illustrating this message was genius and deserves applause. This movie is a must-watch according to me and is certainly thought-provoking.
Thappad (2020)
A Masterpiece
A beautiful movie which puts the unfortunate and ugly reality of the society in front of everyone's eyes. It's not a movie about feminism or domestic violence, it's about dignity and the filmmaker successfully delivers his message with this artistic beauty. The cast has done a commendable job by delivering an extremely convincing performance. The audience leaves in speechless with multiple thoughts in their heads. A masterpiece, and therefore a must watch.
