Just Friends (2005)
Just Friends
Just Friends is the story of Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) and his relationship with high school best friend that he was in love with Jamie Palomino (Amy Smart) also starring (Anna Faris) and (Chris Klein) This is your basic romantic comedy which I'm sure we have all see many of but it was very entertaining and very funny. Reynolds is improving in his character and I think he has proved he isn't stereotyped by doing comedy I saw him in a movie School Of Life not long ago and it was really good, top acting.
I went into Just friends not expecting a lot but I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was. There is the typical bad situations where something get's destroyed in these type of movies and characters are embarrassed constantly, thats what you get but for romantic comedy fans I'd recommend this one.
Malevolence (2003)
Malevolence
Malevolence is the story of a bank robbery gone wrong, I am with other viewers on this one very unique and original to see a bank robbery turn to a slasher flick its just in the wake of the Bloddy Murder's and Adam and Evil films like that.
It was very poorly acted, lots of the situations the characters were put in you wouldn't react the way they did, there were genuinely scary parts which were good parts that shocked and I mean the killer having a pillowcase over he's head was actually scary for a while, until you get use to it then u realise its absolute trash! a killer with a knife that is so predictable with a pillow case over his head taunting victims in the yard and killing them inside an old mansion I mean come on its been done to death, and they are just getting worse with each one! also were was all the gore for a horror movie like that, they didn't show much for a slasher flick, all in all no well known actors and I can see why a load of trash, disappointed me because it could have been very good and also if your going to have a slasher flick please have sexual content it eases tension.
Twist (2003)
Twist
Twist is an up to date repeat of Oliver Twist about a gay confused young man and his wrong fall in with hustling and drug abuse, set in the streets of Toronto.
Twist stars (Nick Stahl)as Dodge a hustler on the streets living in an abandoned warehouse with other young hopefuls. (Joshua Close) plays the innocent Oliver who is taken under the wing by Dodge to become a street hustler. Set in a divey area in Toronto, the story is all about the life of Dodge and his drug addiction and problems in life, struggling to find answers he meets Oliver who is a sad boy as his mother and father passed away and he is confused about his purpose in life.
Twist was an interesting eerie film, Nick Stahl is one of the best young actors, everything he has performed in I have enjoyed. Stahl did sell the role of Dodge, Nick has even commented how he loves playing the strange roles and really getting into his character. Although little nudity and graphic sexual content was shown I still found this film difficult to watch, and I am confused as to why I don't think it's as simple as because there were gays in it, I can't watch because i am not prejudice against that.
Strange film, I liked the set and the area's filmed and Stahl's performance was top notch but I think the point was lost about mid film, last 20 or 30 minutes, I don't know can't explain it see for yourself.
Devour (2005)
Devour
Devour is the latest horror directed by David Winkler starring (Jenson Ackles), (Shannyn Sossaman) and (Dominique Swain), its a story of Jake Gray who is a college student with a shaky past and family relationship, him and his friends stumble across "The Pathway" a private Internet game, it is a success and a help at first, but spirals out of control when Jake begins to see premonitions and visions of his friends and family, what does it all mean?? The theme of Devour was very exciting added in was a young hopeful cast that haven't appeared in any big name films. I first thought what an original idea a computer game called "The Pathway" with something not right, very original and witty idea. Jenson Ackles did not sell the role of his character, the situations and reactions with some of the characters where not believable, Swain put in a mediocre performance as the bad girl, where as in "Tart" as the good girl she sold the role.
Disappointing film, considering the build up and such an original idea. Could have been so much more and a movie to add to the must see list, not the must see the idea but forget watching it list!
Joe Somebody (2001)
Joe Somebody
Joe Somebody is a comedy/drama about Joe Scheffer (Tim Allen) who is a nobody at work, until the day he is beat up in the car park by a co-worker and rescued by his young daughter, following the incident he agrees to fight back. Starring (Tim Allen), (Julie Bowen), (Hayden Panettiere) and (James Belushi) Joe Somebody is a good light comedy flick, the storyline is believable and Allen is suited to play Joe, also Meg Harper played by (Julie Bowen) was a strong role. Predictable storyline , funny in all the right places, its amazing how the aspects of this film do occur in everyday life, Joe goes from a nobody to being the most popular guy at work through one act.
It's sad to believe that is how people only react once you have done something worthy for them to associate with you, it's like high school life.
Anyway reasonable comedy film, good to see Allen back into film.
Joe Dirt (2001)
Joe Dirt
Joe Dirt is a comedy flick about the life of Joe Dirt (David Spade)who is your typical idiot in search of the parents that abandoned him on a family trip when he was 10. Starring (David Spade), (Brittany Daniel)and (Christopher Walken) Joe Dirt is your typical Spade movie that off the wall Just Shoot Me humor, very funny. The story was ridiculous but knew when to make you laugh and to make you sad, Spade just keeps getting better with age. Spade is becoming typecast but I just don't see him in a serious role which may make him talentless but I just cant get enough of his humor, fancy eating Burgers and Fries off a meteoroid thats actually a giant 100 year old feces, and the line about homo's naked! ha ha it's classic.
Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003)
Jeepers Creepers 2
Jeepers Creepers 2 being the sequel to the original about a flesh eating creeper who feeds every 23 years, he is back to hunt for fresh meat. It isn't important enough for you to know who the people were in this film because it didn't do a lot, there were a lot of frightening moments which made it enjoyable and the updates they have done on the creeper to change his entire look were the best two parts, I actually enjoyed watching the making of the film then sitting through it! Saying that it did possess qualities of the first film which was original something unheard of but not enough changes in the second film, to make it memorable enough to put on the horror classic list.
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
Jeepers Creepers
Jeepers Creepers is a horror film about two college students who unleash the creeper a terrifying force from outer space. Starring (Gina Phillips) and ( Justin Long) which are two actors you haven't probably heard of, they did do an A grade performance in this film.
Jeepers Creepers was unlike any horror or Sci-fi film I had seen before it was enjoyable not to be taken serious. It is good to see horror fans and film makers becoming more interested in other plots besides a killer in a mask chopping people! saying that they are enjoyable ha ha! A Dark and Dunjy film for a fair section and I didn't like the ending, The creeper was cool, over all not bad at all.
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
This is the sequel to the first, which did it's job the second is equally as slasher and equally as predictable, directors are now beginning to just make slashers with no twists and techniques to make them unlike anything the audience has seen before.
Ben Willis is back the fisherman which the group ran over a year ago,and he has an accomplice but who is it?? Well in these films you narrow the field down to 2 or 3 by 9 times out of 10 eliminating the main characters occasionally the directors will catch you off guard with a main character being the psycho but, trust me it's not that hard.
Typical storyline, no different to the original but with a different scenario and the killed of Ryan Phillipe and Sarah Michelle Gellar, Cmon get lessons from Craven. I give these films higher ratings then they are worth because I like horror! maybe I am easily impressed
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
I Know What You Did Last Summer
I Know What You Did Last Summer is a horror film about a great of friends who hit a stranger in there car and decide to bury the body, but they are not so shore if it's still buried. A great young cast starring (Jennifer Love Hewitt), (Sarah Michelle Gellar), (Ryan Phillipe) and (Freddie Prince Jr) I Know What You Did Last Summer is definitely in the wake of Scream and other earlier horror flicks but the storyline is original, the acting was strong from Hewitt but not so much from the rest of the cast, A Predictable horror flick but I just like the adrenalin rush of a film like this for what it was light entertainment I can say I enjoyed it.
The Hunted (2003)
The Hunted
The Hunted is an Action/Drama flick about Aaron Hallam (Benicio Del Toro)an ex trained knife assassin and his ability to cope with things he has seen in war and his life, which leads him to a battle with LT Bonham (Tommy Lee Jones)his mentor who trained him to kill.
The Hunted is set in a very secluded area, beautiful and all forest, the acting was strong as was the storyline, parts of the film are a little far-fetched but you get that in a film like this. The stunt work with the knives is the best of any knife handling movie I have seen, These films always have to have an FBI agent a few innocent people and a lot of chasing, it's all becoming to predictable but it was a solid flick.
Hollow Man (2000)
Hollow Man
Hollow Man is a thriller/horror film about Sebastian Caine (Kevin Bacon) who is a scientist who discovers how to make humans invisible, but as the test subject he doesn't wish to change, and then chaos begins, Starring (Elisabeth Shue)and(Josh Brolin).
Hollow Man was a solid thriller flick, Kevin Bacon plays the role of evil better than good, great special effects and scenery, Unrealistic and the problem with the film being B Grade and not A grade was simply the motivation behind Caine's crimes isn't explained the film doesn't jump in there and further your knowledge of why he is beginning to kill of his team of scientists. Overall I think it had great action and special effects but it was a bit pointless to make the film, I can't sum it up in words but there was no motivation.
Here on Earth (2000)
Here On Earth
Here On Earth is a Drama/Romance about College kid Kelley Morse (Chris Klein) after he destroys a county restaurant in a car drag he is sentenced to community service and falls in love with a country poor girl. Also stars (Leelee Sobieksi) and (Josh Hartnett) Here On Earth didn't get given enough credit I know these type of films have all be done before, but it was a strong film acting wise, and storyline was decent, Predictable but then again all these films are, I'm not saying run out and buy it but you have to take it for what it is a Drama/Romance you can't deliver much more than this film did, it is just people are getting sick of these being made, I thought it was a bit B grade but I would recommend it to Romance fans.
Chris Klein changing roles which is good and Josh Hartnett we all know his range is up there with the best.
Gothika (2003)
Gothika
Gothika is a Horror/Thriller film about Miranda Grey (Halle Berry) who is a female psychiatrist who wakes up in the asylum she works in with no rec-election of what she has done and why she is there. Also starring (Robert Downey Jr), (Charles S. Dutton) and (Penelope Cruz) Gothika was a very enjoyable film, strong and powerful thriller flick with great twists and turns and makes you jump in all the right places. Unpredictable story and it's good to see Halle Changing roles she is a very widespread actress, doing a bit of everything.
Great special effects and scenery very well done movie. The only small flaw was it is original but in the spirit of ghost and poltergeist and all these other lose your memory movies but definitely the strongest of the lot, I mean you have to be realistic some films are going to be relatively the same, it's the performance that can determine the outcome.
Gladiator (2000)
Gladiator
Gladiator is a film set in roman times and the story of Maximus (Russell Crowe) a general who is betrayed and his family murdered by a prince hoping to control the empire. Also Stars (Joaquin Phoenix) as Commodus and (Connie Nielson), (Oliver Reed) and (Richard Harris) Gladiator had a very strong storyline, and powerful acting I don't generally like Russell Crowe but he delivered a great performance in the revenge, killing side of the film, but I just can't take him serious. I have always been a fan of (Joaquin Phoenix) what a talented actor, then again he has been doing it forever, great evil role I wasn't confident he would be suited to that role.
Long film, and a little bit slow, great special effects and battle scenes, enjoyable film.
Gossip (2000)
Gossip
Gossip is a Drama/Thriller about three college friends Derrick (James Marsden) Cathy (Lena Headey) and Travis (Norman Reedus who decide to spread gossip for one of there assignments and see how quickly it can spread, but it spirals out of control. With appearances from (Joshua Jackson) and (Kate Hudson) Gossip was not a film that grabbed my attention when it was released I like James Marsden in (Disturbing Behaviour) but just wasn't a plot for me to get into. Gossip had something very likable about but ultimately crashed and burned (Norman Reedus) delivered a great performance as the guy laying low and James Marsden was strong but it was a predictable plot and a slow story the first half of the film doesn't revolve around much.
I can't pinpoint what it was I liked about it maybe the eeriness of the gossip and Norman Reedus's performance, so much potential, disappointing though.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is the story of Will Hunting "Matt Damon" is a mathematical genius but is working as a janitor at a maths technical school, when he is discovered but due to criminal record is ordered to take therapy from Sean Maguire "Robin Williams" who attempts to control Will and help him lead his own life. Also stars Ben Affleck, Stellan Skarsgard, Minnie Driver, Casey Affleck and Cole Hauser.
Good Will Hunting is a very powerful film, If you get through all the swearing you begin to feel Will's pain as his life story is thrown out on the table. Strong acting, believable storyline and a very original story, Great cast not a weak role and there are very few films in this genre that can get that across to the audience, it's a film to make you laugh, cry and get angry.
Matt Damon gets better every time I see him, top film best of its kind.
Batman Begins (2005)
Batman Begins
Batman Begins is the prequel to the story of Batman, It is how Bruce Wayne was destined to do something great with his life and become Batman. Starring "Christian Bale", "Gary Oldman", "Morgan Freeman" and "Katie Holmes" with appearances from "Michael Caine" and "Tom Wilkinson" I recently saw Batman Begins in the theaters and there was a big build up to the story and through the media and it didn't let down at all. After seeing it I can't picture Batman as anyone but Christian Bale he is a very talented actor ever since his earlier work in "Reign Of Fire" and his thrilling "American Psycho" performance. I know talented actors such as George Clooney and Michael Keaton have played Batman but none as well as Bale. It's good to see Morgan Freeman still appearing in a strong role but not the main and it is a relief to finally see Katie Holmes in a memorable performance, after Dawsons Creek and her facials ha ha!.
Great storyline, a little slow but it was all the build up, great weapons and thrilling edge of the seat escapism. Strong acting and very well done special effects, the only minor criticism was the film went for a touch over two and a half hours and I think it could have been shortened to two hours. Definitely the best of the comic book films, I believe they are making to many X-men, The Hulk, Hellboy, Spiderman, The Fantastic Five etc........... the list goes on its become to typical, but a good film.
Going Down (2003)
Going Down
Going Down is the story of one blow out party, one trashed house, two college guys, three hot girls, four Dumb Jocks, A hooker and 3 hours to clean up the mess. Starring (Jay Michael Ferguson) as Jack Earnest also (Josh Blake), (Christine Lakin) and (Hope Riley)
For your typical teenage comedy it was up there very funny and enjoyable, not quiet as good as The American Pie trilogy but close. Good to see a young, attractive cast in these roles, great punk rock soundtrack getting some of those unknown artists out there.
Unpredicatble and a lot of twists for a comedy film, thoroughly enjoyable it was actually different compared to your normal teenage comedy.
Godzilla (1998)
Godzilla
Godzilla is a Sci-Fi/Action flick following atomic bomb tests in the South Pacific, where an unknown creature is headed east through the Panama Canal. Starring "Matthew Broderick" as Dr Niko Tatopoulos and "Jean Reno" as Phillipe Roache also "Hank Azaria" and "Maria Pitillo" Godzilla is one of only few sci-fi films I haven't been able to get into, there was solid action and a good storyline, original but I just didn't like it obviously its not to be take to serious, I just thought it was weak I am not a fan of Matthew Broderick I think he is a weak actor.
To sum up I don't have a lot to say about it, I think it's a bad version o Jurassic Park!
Finding Nemo (2003)
Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo is a computer generated, animated film about a clown fish Nemo who is stolen from his home reef, his father is then forced to search the ocean for him. Voices done by Albert Brooks, Ellen Degeneres, Alexander Gould and Willem Dafoe.
Everybody had raved on about this animated film to me and I have never been a fan of them, I still haven't seen Shrek ha ha! I don't regret watching Finding Nemo but it just didn't tickle my fancy I have seen better animated films over the last couple of years, the graphics were really clear and well done it had humor in the right places, but something I didn't like. I don't think there were enough troubling events happening to Nemo throughout the film, Watch for yourself and find out but I thought it was lacking, sorry all you fans!
Freddy Got Fingered (2001)
Freddy Got Fingered
Freddy Got Fingered is the story of cartoon animator Gord Brody (Tom Green)who is unhappy with his current job so moves back home with his parents and brother Freddy (Eddie Kay Thomas) to work on his animating, but begins to spread stories of his father sexually abusing his younger brother. Starring (Tom Green), (Rip Torn), (Marissa Coughlan) and (Anthony Michael Hall).
This movie I actually got a hold of from a friend and didn't have interest or was even open minded about it right from the get go. It was rated one of the worst films of the decade (which I found out later), but it was your typical Tom Green off the wall, cut up disgusting humor that it had to be just out of this world hilarious. This movie is funny, dramatic and disgusting all in one, and Tom Green is great at what he does.
Positive acting, although a ridiculous story line, at a R rating I would only advise people with a strong stomach to watch this powerful, disgusting, dramatic over the top, yet so hilariously funny film. I can appreciate Green for what he is trying to do, I hope you can to ha ha!
Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
Freddy vs Jason
Freddy vs Jason is the much awaited battle between the two who are out to hunt and kill not just helpless teenagers but each other! (Robert Englund) stars as Freddy and stunt master (Ken Kirzinger) is Jason Vorhees you may have seen his stunts used in movies such as 13 Ghosts and Paycheck.
The story centers around Lori Cambell (Monica Keena) and her battle with her friends to survive Freddy and Jason. It also stars (Kelly Rowland), (Jason Ritter) and (Katharine Isabelle) with appearances from (Brendan Fletcher) and (Lochlyn Munro).
For yet another slasher horror flick and the battle between Freddy and Jason you can't ask for a lot more in a teenage horror movie. The acting is predictable and fairly weak, with typical escapism until they are sliced and diced. These sort of films have to have there unnecessary swearing an a in prompt to sex scene.
The positives were great action and scenery used and good special effects and makeup make it an enjoyable horror film that has been much awaited. By the way who wins Freddy or Jason? you'll have to watch to see, but believe me long fighting scenes before one is unable to fight anymore.
Final Destination 2 (2003)
Final Destination 2
Final Destination is the follow up to the original starring Devon Sawyer the sequel stars (A.J Cook), (Ali Larter), (Michale Landes) and (David Paetkau). Kimberley (Cook) has a vision of a freeway car pile up and saves the victims, but death has his own plan and one by one they begin to die.
For a Thriller/Horror it was a great effort to equal the appeal of the first but another very successful Thriller sequel, equally as enjoyable and gruesome death scenes as the original, not to be taken serious but very enjoyable none the less. Ali Larter very talented actress enjoyable to watch and very sexy on screen. Good to see David Paetkua playing another smart ass role I enjoyed him in (Bang Bang Your Dead) and good to see an appearance from Alex Rae who plays another smart ass character.
Falling Down (1993)
Falling Down
Falling Down is the life of William Foster (Michael Douglas) and his battle with day to day life, the flaws in society and things that need to be changed which he believes can be succeeded in acts of violence.
Detective Martin Prendergast (Robert Duvall) is involved in a case involving a restraining order Elizabeth Travino (Barbara Hershey) has placed on here ex-husband William Foster due to his attacks and psychotic behavior.
Falling Down is a very powerful film, I actually was introduced to this film by a family member not having any idea about it, It was ultimately a drama but it had aspects of action and comedy, enjoyable film that I couldn't take fully for real, I laughed more than I should have as it was a serious film but there was something about the reasons and the aspects that Foster lashes out at that I didn't get, then I realized some people are just naturally always annoyed and this guy was one of them.
