One Too Many Twists
1 June 2022
This was a moderately interesting mystery thriller for the majority of the film. I was sitting around a 5/10 during the first hour. Then, when the initial twist happens, it made the story arc much more interesting, moving my rating up to the 8 territory. But as the finale wrapped, the last twist made next to no sense, dropping it back down to a somewhat enjoyable film.

Both confounding and condescending

I think I got whiplash from all of these humanitarian disasters thrown at me in the last 90 minutes.

The information in this documentary is important, but it is thrown at you at 150mph with the most melodramatic presentation imaginable.

Shiny and Dull at the Same Time
27 December 2018
This movie may be one of the more visually striking comic movies ever made. They clearly put an enormous amount of time and effort into the underwater CGI sequences. There were countless times where I thought to myself "if you took a still shot of the screen right now, it'd be a beautiful wallpaper or poster." Though with all the work that went into the visuals, almost none went into the story. The plot was as straight forward as it comes which dragged in a 2.5 hour long movie. And the dialogue was painful at times. Ultimately with all the various pros and cons, the movie is entertaining to watch. So turn your brain off and ride the wave where it takes you.

A nice attempt but the film falls short
12 December 2018
The message of the film is important and it is a noble attempt to teach, though I don't understand the audience that this film is meant for. With the marketing they did, anyone who chooses to watch the movie will already be against the idea of Conversion Therapy. The acting was sub-par and the story was emotionally flat.

Chalamet and Carell stand out in an emotional roller coaster
12 December 2018
Timothee Chalamet gives an outstanding performance ans Steve Carell is right up there with him. Their emotions come through strongly and carry the story. Though unfortunately the story-line feels predictable. The flashbacks were more distracting than endearing. And those aspects hold the film back.

A film with good potential but ultimately the cinematography and writing holds it back
4 December 2018
The film takes on an interesting stance, discussing the importance of a politician's personal life and the changes in reporting over the past few decades. The acting is passable, with some good performances from side characters. But ultimately, the script lacked the dialogue to keep you engaged with them movie. On top of that, the cinematography was almost dizzying at times and the poor sound mixing was distracting and brought you out of the film.
