The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
Great characters and story, but there were minor issues. **SPOILER FREE
The Amazing Spiderman 2 was a good film. Personally, I am a fan of Spiderman and I enjoyed this film. Here is what I liked about the film: 1) The action was very good and I enjoyed the way they filmed it. In addition, Spiderman swinging around the city was great, especially since they made him interact with the environment and people a lot, thus making the film seem more realistic, instead of having him just focus on the main plot. In addition, the conflicts in the plot were very good. I didn't expect the characters to develop that well, but they did and by linking the villains conflicts together (through Oscorp) the villains stories were very well put. However, the Green Goblin didn't get that much screen time.
I would like to point out that I think that the final fight with Electro was great and suspenseful, but his defeat wasn't that great. The goes with Rhino, who seemed very unnecessary throughout the entire plot. Also, there was lots of CGI used which would usually remove interest from a film, but since it was Electro, the CGI made sense. In addition, the new theme made by Hans Zimmer was good, but it was constantly played during every Spiderman scene, which got annoying. The same goes with the constant dubstep played for Electro.
Another negative factor I would like to point out is the abundance of humour. There was a lot of comedy in the film, which was good and placed, but sometimes there was too much humour. However, the film was also very dark and violent which I liked (especially with the fight between The Green Goblin and Spiderman).
Thirdly, the final negative point about this film was the ending. They usually had an inspirational speech of some sort (which was there, but wasn't the main focus in the end), instead they chose to add a poor conflict in, instead of a "final swing" like the other films.
In summary, the film was good, with well times humour and dark moments. The plot was very good, and 2/3 villains had very good plots which interlocked well, creating a great set of villains. However, there were a large group of characters introduced, and a few too many plots which was a lot to work with, but nothing to effect the film in a big way. The filming was great, and the action and plot was very well put together, creating a unique storyline.
9/10
How I Met Your Mother: Last Forever: Part Two (2014)
Good Ending to a Great Show
How I Met Your Mother is a great show. It taught people for 9 years about friendship, relationships and most importantly, how everything is up to destiny. The gang went through a lot, to reach the end, which was this episode. I love How I Met Your Mother, and the ending was great. HOWEVER, it was sadder than I thought. I thought Robin and Barney were going to end up together, especially since they spent an entire season on them (don't forget Barney's extremely complicated and great proposal to Robin). I also never thought Ted and Robin would have gotten back together. There was so much hype about the mother, but they honestly didn't take full advantage of the character. Don't get me wrong, the show ended great and they referenced so many running gags (but we still don't know how the pineapple appeared in the Pineapple Incident), but there were so many plots that were focused on to the extremes, that we expected everything to happen and remain fixed, which is why we didn't expect the surprise plot twists. For instance, Barney just had a child, but we never learned anything else. In conclusion, I enjoyed the ending, it was a good conclusion to a great show. But they tried to put lots of things into one 40 minute episode which worked out decently. I also expected a happy ending for all characters, but I guess that's not how life always works.
Again, GOOD ending, but not the best. I'll still greatly miss How I Met Your Mother - it was legendary.
Non-Stop (2014)
Great film! (A no-spoiler review)
SPOILER FREE.
I'm a fan of Liam Neeson, but I won't let my opinion interfere with this review. I would give this film an 8/10. I like films that have action and a unique plot. In this case, Non Stop had both. It was a thriller, and it delivered a good thriller. The plot was constantly unravelling, throwing us new information. Since the plot was so "mysterious" I was constantly on the edge of my seat - trying to guess who the criminals were. It was definitely worth seeing because of its chilling music, atmosphere and insane plot (it really had a great plot). The film also had a very thriller feel, with jump scares and constant suspense. The plot was always surprising you, in a good way. I give it an 8/10. Not a 9 because there wasn't constant action, but at the same time, action isn't what a thriller is about. I didn't give it a 10 because no film - nothing is perfect. Since I'm used to films with lots of action, I removed a point, but I'm sure most people would give it a 9. Overall, a great film that kept me on the edge of my seat.
The Change-Up (2011)
Decent film! (Spoiler free)
Honestly, I really enjoyed this film. It wasn't a film that had amazing performances and an original plot, but I still enjoyed it because it was a film that its vulgar, comedic and sentimental moments - all put together. For instance, in some scenes that were very sentimental, they were able to balance out the mood with humour. Not too much humour, but just enough which made the film great. In addition, I said that the performances weren't great, but Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds still had great characters and portrayed them very well. In summary, this is simply a good movie that would be great to watch with friends and have a laugh at.
Arrow: Time of Death (2014)
Great episode!
After waiting for 2 weeks (I think), we got a great episode. There was so much character development in this episode it was crazy (not going to spoil anything, but we learned more about characters). The villain in this episode was pretty good, especially because a certain actor played him very well. Honestly, this episode stood out because of its cliffhanger ending which left me in shock and through the marvellous character development. I also really liked how we got each major and minor character to appear in the episode, it made the episode better. Arguably one of the best episodes of Arrow. I recommend you to watch this episode as soon as possible.
