Slumberland (2022)
Solid entry into family-friendly entertainment
I am a sceptic when it comes to American entertainment these days; in a word, American media is horrible. That being said, the trailer for this was interesting enough that I gave this movie a chance. I AM VERY GLAD I DID.
This movie is well-written, has well-developed characters performed by talented actors, fast pacing, and beautiful CGI. If you have given up on American entertainment this may give you hope that the industry may be turning a corner.
Netflix has produced some decent shows over the last couple of years and this production falls firmly into the GOOD SHOW category. I know it's a couple of years old, but it is very much worth a watch. Highly recommend for ages 8+
Mr. Right (2015)
Find the one who lifts you up
The witty repartee and believable chemistry between the two main leads really sells this movie, which has become one of my most re-watched movies. On the surface, it's a light-hearted ROMCOM, but upon reflection, the theme of love and acceptance is more thought-provoking.
Once you look past the surface, what makes this movie so good is the underlying premise; lasting love is not about finding someone who's perfect, but finding someone who will be honest with us, someone who we can be vulnerable with, someone who lifts us up and loves us for who we are, warts and all. When all is said and done, this is a feel-good movie you can rewatch time and again.
I was really disappointed when this movie first came out because it received so much hate. I'm glad to see its rating has gone up and hope that continues as more people discover this underrated gem of a movie.
Poskromienie zwochnicy (2022)
Fun little romantic comedy, Polish style
In this post-Hollywood world, Americans are having to range further afield for their entertainment. I have not seen a lot of Polish entries here in the states and I am glad that streaming services like Netflix will give actors/actresses in other countries the opportunity for wider exposure.
This is a cute little romantic comedy with decent acting, believable chemistry between the leads, beautiful costuming, and stunning vistas. While is is next to impossible to match the multi-billion dollar budgets of legacy Hollywood films, I would argue that's a good thing. There is something fundamentally unreal and plastic about Hollywood productions and though that's fine for science fiction and fantasy, it simply fails to make up for a lack of good storytelling and just basic ENTERTAINMENT, which is the point of the whole endeavor. I look forward to seeing more productions from Poland.
Tremors (2018)
WHY????
Why would you cancel this? Burt Ward has been cashing in for years because die-hard fans will watch it. I loved every one of these (well, with the exception of when they did the back-in-time one). I was so psyched that they had a new series coming out with Kevin Bacon, only to have my hopes crushed upon finding out they cancelled it. PLEASE - we need more crazy killer worms in our life.
