Villains (2019)
Rob Zombie wannabe film
This movie felt like it was trying to rip off of characters from House of 1000 Corpses and other similar films, in a much milder form. The retro atmosphere, the strong female head of household trying to mimic Karen Black. I don't think it was meant to be comedic but the acting and portly written script made it come across as such. What a disappointment and surprise that she would stoop this low. A real step down for Kyra Sedgewick, who the other much younger actors in the film likely were thrilled to do a film with.
On the other hand, if it was meant to be a comedy then I guess it succeeded. It's just hard to decipher if it is comedy or horror, and in turn it fails as both. Skip this one, you're not missing anything and may be grateful in the long run for having not wasted o we a both of your time with such trash.
River Wild (2023)
So bad I can't believe it even has a rating above 5
This movie is so bad on so many levels. Adam Brody in this role is comical. From the first moment he arrives on screen I was laughing. His fake tattoos and whiny voice just really cracked me up. You could tell right away they wanted him to be "the bad guy" but that added to the comedy.
The fact that the other lead male actor on the film (whose name I don't recall, Matt...??) did not even attempt to overpower such a wimpy excuse for a man was also comical. This other guy was significantly larger and also a much better actor, by the way. Between him and the two other files they easily could've overpowered Adam with his handgun. I can't believe the directors ever thought this casting would work. I guess Adam takes what he can't get since the OC and I thought his performance in Shazam would've helped his career, but I guess his ability is limited likely due to his horrid voice and annoying persona.
Leighton Meester (or whatever her name is) looked worn out, old, and just plain out of place in this film compared to the other women in the film. She had the same look on her face the entire time but barely did nothing to develop any type of character. I'm guessing they cast her because of her "name".
I never wrote reviews on here but felt so offended by this horrid film that I had to add my two sense. If you do decide to watch, please come back to let us know how horrible you thought it was. Because I am certain that's what you'll say. Trash, right up to the very end.
The Drew Barrymore Show (2020)
Fun and positive start to the day
I find it awful that so many people come here to leave a negative review about Drew's personality rather than her show. The show has great guests, an amazing cohost (Ross Mathews) and introduces viewers to some really great products and companies. She also has a cooking segment which I love because she will cook alongside a famous chef and always makes something easy and delicious looking. Drew has introduced me to several new cookbooks, cooking products (i.e. chickpea pasta, an aesthetically pleasing air fryer) and is fun to watch. She tries and reviews foods and products live on the show and lets you know if it's good or just ehhh. Her guests range from well known actors (like Matthew McConaughey) to newer actors with exciting new shows (such as Fate: The Winx Saga). She reviews both adult and children's books and has an adorable kid give his opinion on books such as Natalie Portman's retelling of classics like the three little pigs. The show is fun, light and a burst of freshness in the morning. I rarely write reviews but felt the need to take a moment to write this one when I saw the horrible reviews. If you're reading this than chances are you're interested in possibly watching; I say yes please do give it a chance!
And to those hoping the show won't last...ha, sorry about that but with her top tier guests and relatable content I don't think Drew's show will be going anywhere anytime soon.
Mandy (2018)
Anyone but him.
Why, oh, why was Nicholas Cage cast in this role?? It was clearly beyond his ability and because of this fact, ruined the film.
The film was visually appealing, the writing was good, the main villain amazing...like amaze balls amazing. The throwback gore perfection. Then in comes Nick Cage. I just don't get it. He doesn't fit in and he certainly isn't good enough of an actor to deliver some of the dialogue given to him. Too bad, this movie really had potential. Watch it and you'll know what I mean.
