School Dance (2014)
Not quite what I expected, but still pretty funny!
I can never get enough of Kevin Hart, Luenell, Mike Epps, Katt Williams, & Tiffany Haddish! A welcomed addition to the comedy was Lil' Duvall! Great team! But, the booty dancing & lip syncing for what seemed like every 5 minutes was too much! The movie was "School Dance" not "Dance School"! I was sick of watching what was supposed to be teenagers twerking constantly! The comedy was so much more fun!! Still worth it to watch and it was really nice seeing the young man from "Role Models" grown up, Bobbe J Thompson! He did great in his lead role! However, if you are into dancing and hip hop music, this is definitely the movie for you!! Beware, there are many references to race and cultural biases. Sorry if that is considered a spoiler.
I Know This Much Is True (2020)
So Good!
I really enjoyed the show! Although, Juliette Lewis' character, Nedra, was quite condescending....AND, I could care less if she returns... I think we will be seeing her again because she will be pivotal to the twin's story. Something happened in that Grandfather's manuscript! This may be a reach, but I think that the Grandfather also fathered the twins. Think about it? There were so many questions about the father and "Ma" dodged them all. And the manuscript written by the Grandfather was in Italian! I think Nedra will come back & reveal something crazy!
Vice (2018)
Absolutely Fabulous!!
The Bush Era was a difficult time for so many Americans, but it was no secret that Dick Cheney was probably the most powerful Vice President to ever hold office. "Vice" tells Cheney's story starting back in his early years working as a lineman in Wyoming because he flunked out of Yale. We also learn of all his struggles as a young man with alcoholism. His wife, Lynne, gave him an ultimatum of cleaning up his life or leaving the marriage. Of course, Dick went into politics and the movie does a wonderful job of telling his story....the way he rose to power and gained the respect of the American people and later had a very low approval rating after multiple scandals, Halliburton, & CIA leaks. And yes, the shooting "accident" is detailed as well! 😂 He became the most unpopular Vice President in American History based on polls. The movie also reveals a lot about his family life..his daughter's never ending quest for acceptance for same-sex rights/equality and the turmoil it caused among the Cheney's, Dick's health issues, and his daughter's Liz's run for the Senate. The narrator, Kurt is a significant character and is very clever. Even though he's fictional, his presence really adds a dramatic affect to the entire movie. Christian Bale, Amy Adams, & Sam Rockwell all did an amazing job! I was shocked to see Tyler Perry play Colin Powell! Great Movie all around! A MUST SEE!
A Simple Favor (2018)
A great comedy thriller! So unheard of!
First, you can't go wrong with Anna Kendrick! She is just amazing! Add Blake Lively and you have some laughs coming your way! When two totally different moms become new friends & one disappears, what is the other to do? I don't think anyone handles it quite like Stephanie! (Anna Kendrick) It's a must see!
White Boy Rick (2018)
Pretty Close to the Real Story!
From what I've read about the real story of Richard Wershe, Jr., the movie comes pretty close! It was interesting to see how the police so easily used a 14 year old boy who was running guns for his father to get involved with well known drug dealers that he previously had no interest in. Just when Rick knew all about the drug trade, the FBI turned their backs on him. They taught him all the cocaine game and how to be a major player, he didn't learn it from the streets! Being such a young man and wanting the money, of course he is going to sell the drugs. The FBI essentially led to his arrest & conviction at just 17 years old.
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
Only one more episode to go!
I absolutely loved this show from the first episode! After a new pilot premieres, I check out what other viewers opinions are. The critics in the newspaper and magazines really don't say very much. It's the longtime fans of drama masterminds like Shonda Rhimes that matter. I was surprised by how much negative feedback there was for this show! Viewers thought that there was too much sex, and made a point to bring up the gay student and oral sex. Obviously, "Grey's Anatomy" is a fantastic show, and contains some same sex situations. The only difference is, it involves two women. Sex is unavoidable on TV and you have to adjust to it if you want to be entertained by it.
"How To Get Away With Murder" was by no means as graphic as some of the recent shows that other regular network late night television stations have shown. For instance, NBC and their 2 seasons of "Hannibal". I love that show! However, most people would be shocked that it's not on HBO. In fact, I found that visually, it had way less violence and blood then veteran network shows like "Law and Order". Shonda Rhimes saved all of the blood for the trauma room on "Grey's Anatomy". With Viola Davis as the star, we get drama, emotion and plenty of shade thrown. I know I have asked myself several times, "What is she doing?" or "What did she just say?".
The final reason that I read most from viewers who disliked this show, was because they were lawyers or some type of law professional and their law professor never would have acted like "Annalease Keating" I think that was the intention of the writers, though. The story is fictional. She is only portraying this tough as nails professor and criminal defense attorney that is very unorthodox. If she was the textbook professor and her students didn't essentially want to be her, there wouldn't be much of a storyline.
I'm going to refer one last time to "Grey's Anatomy". I know that doctors and surgeons work long hours, especially while they are residents. I would really be a little freaked out if I was having surgery and thought about all the sex going on between doctors at work like on TV. It's not the norm, so enjoy the what you think only "Dr. Alex Karev and his cute intern girlfriend do in on-call rooms!
I respect everyone's opinions, you can love it or hate it and have your reasons why. Debate is healthy, and I hate when people use these message boards to argue with one user because they didn't like their feedback. I waited until the end of the season, and read all of the negative posts. These seemed to bother viewers the most. I was hoping that outlooks would improve, and it appears that they have. I really hope we get a second season! Only one more episode left! I really can't wait until next Thursday!
