Cursed (2020)
8/10
Honestly the amount of 1 stars makes me feel they've been written by bots
19 July 2020
I wasn't going to write a review but when I saw the stagering amount of one star reviews I just felt I had to do this seires some justice. For starters it's complete and utter eye candy. The sets were AMAZING If you like swords and adventures and magic- watch this. It's beautiful. Second, it has a pretty good adventure line and romantic line. Granted, the first two episodes are shaky at times but I think that this series is a lot better than, don't crucify me, the witch hunter which I thought script wise was a complete hot mess and only the scenery and costumes kept me watching. You know those movies that aren't perfect but have enough cool moments in them to make you say they have a little somethnig something? Well cursed has it. I really loved all the magic elements and the little nods at British lore and history. I feel like they got the feeling right and the "logic" of magic right, but sometimes flunked with the dialouge. They lay their messages about representation and LGBTQ, a bit thick in a way that slightly makes you cringe (but not as bad as beauty and the beast). And their representation of religion may sting a few...

It may seem weird to us today this ultra effort at representation because we were brought up watching very specific type casts, but that's how you change and get used to new type casts. By introducing them. By flooding our screens with them and making it our new reality. So yes, today it feels very on the nose and wierd, even childish. But who knows? Tomorrow it may feel normal. So bare with and don't be so judgmental- it's for an important cause. If you liked "letter to the king" and "The witch hunter" and possibly "The old guard" give this sweetheart a shot. At least till episode 4. It really gets better.

Killing Eve (2018–2022)
8/10
Regarding season 3...
28 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Season 3: We're only 2 episodes in so I'm not really sure how fair this is... But as a huge fun of the prior seasons I feel that this one falls short. The dialouges aren't special, the turn of events at the end of ep 1 and how the characters react to it... I don't know it's just not that fun or witty any more. You don't feel that pleasnat angst watching Villenelle do hainous things and she's, for a lack of a better discription, less deliciously crazy. We're shown how Characters are sad and dealing with trauma and grief which to me totally contradicts the chracters we've seen in seasons 1+2. One of the major cool things about the show is that Eve is no less twisted and emotionless than Villanelle- we're left thinking that she too is a psycopath along with Carolyn, but for the first two episodes suddenly they have emotions and we sit with characters for two episodes dealing with the shock of what happened the previous seasons- or how we'd expect normal people to react- but our characters aren't normal! That's the whole point! The feelings exhibited are totally alien to the characters and frankly quite uninteresting, and sadly they take up the main portions of the first 2 eps.

---However-- Having watched the 3rd episode hope is restored! It was brilliant. The creepy vibe is back and so is Villenelle! I just hope they stick with it.

The ending felt like a spit in Jane austin's face
16 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'd say the best thing about this show were the costumes. The overall vibe was ok, I didn't suffer form boredome or anything but it felt a bit cheap-like a poor imitation of austin. The characters felt pretty one dimensional, it was a bit too erotic for austin and I hated the fact that they tried to be Game of throniesh by introducing siblings falling in love (even if they're not related.) That really didn't feel Austiny. But I'm mostly really pissed at the ending- only two side characters get happy endings. To quote Anne hathaway from the movie "becoming Jane"- Where Jane says that after a little trouble she'll give her characters exactly what they want. This didn't happen, they end up heartbroken and at the end of the 8 episodes you kind of feel cheated, because it wasn't supposed to be like this.

Get passed the first two episodes and it'll be one of the best kdramas you've seen
4 September 2019
Wow. Loveble characters and brilliant chemistry? Check. Comedy? Check. Romance and freindship? Check! Cool fantasy? Hell yes. If you've seen Korean odessy- it's got the same vibe. If you haven't seen it- do it now. In terms of visuals: Hotel del luna has got one of the most highest production value I've ever seen. The effects are top notch, the scenery and costumes are amazing- they've really spared no expense and you feel it in almost every shot. Story wise: This was a very beautiful very moving story with lovely methaphors, but for those of you like me who like to know in advance whether this is a tear jerking heart wrenching drama that we'll leave you broken for a while I will say the last episode was sad, but beautiful sad, and the road leading up to it makes it totally worth it. They managed to create a beautiful world with solid rules that feels natural. The only downside to this series are the first two episodes when they set up the world and it's rules- something about the pacing and the tone just doesn't really work there but I'm sooo glad that I continued to watch. I gave it a -9 just because of the beginning- but please please watch it- you won't regret it.

OMG so cute!
4 February 2019
I really enjoyed this and was actually bumbed that it was over so soon :( The characters are really loveable and made me smile quite a bit. The costumes were great and so was the acting- The chemistry between the leads was electric. I really love the lead actress- if you haven't seen her previos works I highly reccomend the k daram "Oh my ghost". This series is of the "feel good " type that makes you feel rozy. like eating candy. Don't expect Shakespeare just enjoy the ride. It's really lovely.

picks up slowly but is worth the wait
28 August 2018
I watched the first few episodeds and was like 'meh' -especially because when the mermaid first reaches land we see lots of clichee's, it's very much been there done that- especially if you've seen Disney's version of the litle mremaid. Also, the mermaid is a bit annoying at the beginning but she gets better. Having said that, It was cute enough to keep me going and I'm glad that I did. It's a love story told well, the supporting characters are good, the acting is superb, and her tail is amazing. I really debated whether to give this a 7 or 8- because I did end up loving this show- but because of the so-so beginning which could potentially put you off I ended up with a seven.

If you like the Hunger Games you're going to love this
17 April 2018
Seriously don't understand all the negative reviews- to the point where I'm starting to wonder if theres something wrong with my taste. I loved this show from the first episode- it's got a very cool lord of the flies/ hunger games vibe to it- it's not grusome or difficult to watch, the characters are very likable, it's got heart and tons of friendship, basically a bunch of teens trying to survive in nature (or rather nuked nature that changes the survival game a bit.) lots of actors that are easy on the eyes (Shallow I know... But it's the truth :) what's not to like?

Really don't understand all the hate
14 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This show is a pretty fun watch (except for the gore- that's a tad too much for my taste). The visuals (from the second episode onwards) are stunning, and the show has this really cool vibe to it- if you've read Bernard Cornwell I think you'll appreciate it. The runes the the myths, the magic... I just really like it :) And am seriously hoping for season 2

Ben-Hur (2016)

actually pretty good
22 August 2016
I wasn't really going to write a review but when I saw all the hate this movie was getting -I couldn't help myself and thought that this movie deserved some justice... I can understand that fans of the original movie aren't pleased- I guess they feel like seeing a book they really like getting butchered on screen- but in this case I don't think that happened. I came with low expectations and actually quite enjoyed it! The visuals were amazing-I'm an archaeology buff- roman to be specific and I think that for the first time in a long time I really felt immersed and got excited from seeing stuff I usually see in a museum come to life- The hippodrome was amazing!! And so were the costumes and the sets. In short the art director is a genius. And I finally feel that they got the look of Jerusalem almost right- at least the best version of Jerusalem on screen I've ever seen. (Kingdom of heaven's Jerusalem was awful). As for the characters they were likable- and I did find myself caring for them and being moved at the end. (All though I'm not sure I liked Jesus in it.. His portrayal made things slightly cheesy.. But not too bad.

In short... I think it's pretty good and stands on it's own and should be given a chance-especially since some part of me felt the honest need to defend it- and that doesn't happen a lot..And I do actually want to see this movie again :) Sorry that I didn't put further details- but you know- spoilers... Plus I'm sure that all the other reviewers already have..

Gods of Egypt (2016)
7/10
Actually enjoyable
13 March 2016
Have to say that when I first saw the trailer I thought that this movie would be a pile of sh**. But I went to see it on a whim and I'm actually really happy that I did. The movie is a kind of fun adventure- it's not perfect, and its very stereotypical in terms of story and character development, but the visuals, the character looks and costumes are actually pretty cool and leave you wanting more.

I'm actually really tempted to see this movie again.

While the 'white casting' at times was ridiculous- the acting is pretty good and helps you get over that fact. (for instance Geoffry rush looks more like he's dressing up as a Chinese person with a long kong fu braid than an Egyptian- but he does a really good job, so you kind of chuckle/ roll your eyes the first second you see him, but 2 seconds later his acting kicks in and you like him.)

So to sum it all- if you're looking for a cute light film with great effects- go see this one.
