Spoorloos (1988)
Best European picture of all time
I think this is one of the best European films of all time. I was a bit disappointed at first, because I thought that having to read subtitles would ruin the movie for me, but it didn't at all. Vanishing had everything: suspense, comedy, horror, a little romance, good acting, beautiful locations, a great villain and a perfect ending. The suspense had me glued to the screen the entire time and the final scene beats any ending in American motion picture history. I recommend this to any fan of Hitchcock or if you liked Psycho or American Psycho. Although I haven't seen the American remake of it, I doubt I will, because there's no such thing as a good remake of a classic like this one.
Wild Things (1998)
Just OK
I didn't like Wild Things, because there were too many twists and the plot changed too dramatically half way through the film. I never knew who was the actual villain was. First I thought it was Denise Richards, then Neve Campbell, then Denise Richards, Matt Dillon and Neve Campbell, then just Matt Dillon, then Kevin Bacon and Matt Dillion, then Neve Campbell and Matt Dillon, & then @ the end it was Neve Campbell and Bill Murray. Movie was OK and kept me entertained, but at the end I realized it was stupid and cheap. I recommend Malice, because it followed a similar plot and had lots of twists and a major change of plot half way through the film, like this did.
Poseidon (2006)
Disturbing
I've watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Saw, Hills Have Eyes etc. None of those scared or bothered me the least bit, but thanks to Poseidon, I will never ever go on a cruise. It was probably so scary, because it seemed so real and drowning is probably the worst way to die in my opinion. This movie was EXTREMELY disturbing and young kids probably shouldn't see it, cuz it'll give them nightmares. But the movie itself was quite good, except for the acting. The actors in the original were so much better and even though the first lacked cool visual affects, they were both equally terrifying. I would love for more remakes of other 1970's disaster films, like Earthquake or Airport.
Malice (1993)
Just OK
I was so disappointed because I was hoping this movie was all gonna be about a murder mystery involving the two murdered college girls. Once they catch the janitor (killer) half way throughout the movie - its sort of disappointing - because I thought Jed would be the killer - but then they had to bring all that Nicole Kidman is the villain stuff, and it sorta ruined it. It was almost like there was two different plots to the movie and the first didn't really seem to be a big deal. I did like the end though - acting was good too (great cast). If you want to watch a good thriller, you probably won't be happy with this, but there was plenty of suspense.
